Confusion regarding (horrible) new shipping and payment system

Hi. I am a small private seller. I started selling around the late half of last year, and since then I've experienced what seems like 4 different complete overhauls of the payment system in barely over half a year. The latest one, before this change now, actually worked great for me though - the payouts and lack of fees were nice.

The new changes seem, not only greedy with the even larger arbitrary-looking fees disguised as "buyer protection", but also horribly miscalculated and made with no knowledge of how shipping in this country works.

Most of my items are small, cheap things I resell, and adding tracked delivery prices to them is impractical. I ship with just standard Royal Mail 2nd class most of the time, as well as quite often International Standard to a lot of countries you could describe as "third world."

As far as I'm aware, while it is possible for a postie to scan an item as delivered for 2nd class labels, with Royal Mail having its own  questionable policies and practices, cutting employee numbers and increasing workload, this is unrealistic to expect to happen on a large scale as they are not obliged to scan untracked items even with the "Please scan upon delivery" stickers I have started attaching to orders. Same thing when I'm shipping to countries like Bangladesh or Nigeria, where Tracked shipping is 3 times more expensive than standard, and is more than the item itself.

This is a problem: with the new eBay policies saying that you get paid only after the item is marked as delivered; I couldn't find any information there on if you get paid even if it isn't, and if there is, I assume it's quite a long period and may require buyer reviews.

The problem is shipping label numbers generated on eBay get automatically added to the system as tracked services, even if they are not, so it seems the 14-day payment for untracked items rule does not apply.

I have about 10 of these orders in the mail just now, does this mean I'm just going to have to reach out to every buyer and pray in my hopes and dreams that they decide to write a positive review for me to get paid? Or am I going to have to wait ≥ a month, or contact eBay support with proof of postage?

I sell items for which eBay is really the only platform, especially for international customers, so I have no choice but to use it. If this tracked rule nonsense works as impractically as it seems to I might have to switch to generating labels off-site on Royal Mail Click&Drop which is incredibly inconvenient, or go buy a sheet of 2nd class stamps at the post office and ship old-school like that. I would really like to actually get paid for my travelling items though, and within a reasonable time.

Yes I am reducing my selling now. This is just needless hassle. We have an auction site and a postage system.

Both independant and both working fine.

I hate this , Ebay are monopolising the postal service putting already struggling post offices in jeopardy ,Im pretty sure we have fair competition rules in the UK which allow the customer to choose which service they use & helps prevent cartels & mafias seizing control of  sections of our markets ,? im now seriously ending my 20 year relationship with ebay

Seriously? And do you think that would work in any way in the seller's favour?
I'm sure Elon would be even more keen to make money than eBay are!

Yes they've turned what was a pleasant simple selling platform into something truly unpleasant.  I imagine it may cost them in the long run when the number of sellers dwindles.

Re: Confusion regarding (horrible) new shipping and payment system

I don't know no but it's a great opportunity for someone who could do an alternative. Ebay have now changed to much and become to GREEDY. The fact they can hold funds from time buyer paid them, from seller having to wait  till it's delivered then paid 3-15 days later is taking the p###. Could you imagine the interest they are making on that money. On top of that they are selling postal services higher prices than DIRECT WITH ROYAL MAIL. Again how's it just post? Originally it's post and packaging so who pays for BOXES, BUBBLE WRAP, TAPE, FUEL TO POST OFFICE, etc all this has gone out window. P&P is post & packaging. NOT JUST POST. SHOCKINGLY THEY THINK THATS OK. 🤬🤬🤬🤬Sent from my Galaxy

Re: Confusion regarding (horrible) new shipping and payment system

@bitsnbobsuk2 although I don’t agree with all these changes over the last 9 months, if I was a private seller listing on here I would include the packaging costs in the BIN or auction start price. I know the response will be people won’t pay that price, but we all know p & p isn’t free on any level.

Re: Confusion regarding (horrible) new shipping and payment system

That doesn’t work at all . Firstly you have totally missed the point . EBay force you to use their Nazi style postage , if you include Farage in the price and then use a third party you’ll still have to pay for eBay’s postage even if you don’t use it and before you say use collection only 🤦‍♂️ that will just put buyers off

Many thanks
Mark

Re: Confusion regarding (horrible) new shipping and payment system

My customer paid me £2.25 postage , Ebay stole that money & i have to pay postage out of the price of my item which i sold at 25% discount , The also steal "Buyers protection fees" off the customer as i use Royal Mail tracked which is Protected up to £150 , if there is a problem it is sod all to do with Ebay as Royal mail will only deal with me
I also now have a real problem with getting paid out , as they have removed the "Mark as dispatched" & "Add tracking" options from self posted listings , i think Trading standards should take a look at this at it looks like the mafia have now taken ownership of eBay

Re: Confusion regarding (horrible) new shipping and payment system

My buyer paid £2.25 postage with Royal Mail, which covered the item to the value of £150, first of all Ebay stole that postage & i had to pay postage out of the item cost & second they steal his "Buyer protection" money , as any problem is between Royal Mail & me, so what is it for ?

Re: Confusion regarding (horrible) new shipping and payment system

I gave my buyer 255 discount on the item , He paid £2.25 P&P which includes up to £150 compensation with Royal Mail
Ebay stole that postage & removed it off my final total so i had to pay it out of the item price , They also charge the buyer "PROTECTION" money For What ? The item is covered by royal Mail & they will only deal with / compensate me It was Already Covered as it is with All reputable couriers so they are also stealing money off buyers, my guess is the low budget couriers used by ebay have to price so low that they can't afford to cover compensation & that is why ebay charge for it

Sorry but i haven't got a clue what you are on about ? As for missing the point , i think you will find the other 12 replies all saw the point & just you & Mr Farage missed it

Re: Confusion regarding (horrible) new shipping and payment system

It's a shambles that's all I can say, like others said the buyer protection is a rip off. The post does not cover postage & packaging the item etc. It will only cover the barely. Sent from my Galaxy

Re: Confusion regarding (horrible) new shipping and payment system

I have just gone through my listing & found that eBay has altered all my postage on many items on some where it was £1 it is now £2.70 & on some Next day special delivery which were £15 or £12 eBay has seen fit to impose £4.70 or less , so ive gone through every listing & cancelled just over 100 ,if this happens again i will find another platform such as Market Place or Gumtree
