Are you paying attention to their wording?

This is an exact copy/paste from the recent Simple Delivery newsletter.

"Fragile items can be included within the Simple Delivery service: When you follow our packaging guidance, you benefit from the protection for damage in transit offered by Simple Delivery."

1. To the best of your knowledge have eBay ever accepted photos or video clips of packaging process as proof that they were packed correctly?

I've read loads of threads here and every example I remember says the opposite.

2. If they don't accept videos or photos as proof how exactly do you prove to them that you followed their guidance?

Are they going to do a sudden change of policy and start siding with sellers instead of buyers on "Not as described" claims.

Are they going to tell the payment institutions that issue chargebacks that they believe the seller because they gave them their word that they followed eBay packaging guidance & that they won't enforce the chargeback?

3. Just to try and stop people forgetting. Their current terms and conditions allow them to change things without notice.

I'm sure they would only use that for the benefits of buyers and sellers though. I wouldn't expect them to use that in their favour.

No.

Not at all.

Never.

Niente.

I naively thought the postage contract was between ebay/buyer and then RM and EVRI.  If I sell with SD the buyer buys the label via ebay.  If the item arrives damaged the buyer reports it to ebay and they get refunded (without involving the seller)...is that not how it works?  😰

The way you say it there doesn't account for culpability.

If the seller doesn't take due care with their packing and the order takes damage, that is the sellers fault.

Did you honestly think eBay were going to take that on the chin?

& that's exactly why I created this thread.

They announce items will be covered if their packaging guidance is followed.

But there isn't any recognised way for us to prove to them that we did.

It would require an entire change to the way they work.

& they know all of the above.

So no, it almost certainly isn't the way you think.

They have far too many clauses and conditions for this to be a smooth ride.

If you video yourself packaging it

and hold the item up to start with to prove it’s the one sold and being packed and it’s seen to be packed securely…how can ebay not accept that

surely if they say it wasn’t properly packed they’d have to prove that it wasn’t ie sent in a bin bag with one layer of bubble eg

And who is to say the Seller didn't parcel the item up properly??? I worked
for Parcelforce a good few years ago, and you wouldn't believe how
'FRAGILE' parcels are handled.. Especially if the 'Sorter' had had a row
with a manger.. Or had a telling off for some misdemeanour.

Because they don't accept that.

A video doesn't prove that was the item you sent or sent it that way. Someone could change things after they did a video.

Don't believe me, have a read of the threads. Every single example that I've seen where sellers tried to use photos or video have been refused by CS.

How do you prove something to a group that does not accept any viable proof?

How is that hard to understand?

And that is why it's a trap.

Believe what you want, I honestly don't care what you do.

But if you sell something, don't pack it well and the buyer complains I wouldn't be surprised if eBay refuse to release your funds.

That's their obvious play in this.

I think part of that is debatable but we probably aren't looking at it the same way.
