Why Royal Mail are breaking/crushing more parcels in recent months

I have been selling on Ebay for around 20 years now but in recent months I have found Royal Mail are breaking and crushing far more parcels. By all accounts parcels used to be placed in a spring loaded carrier then placed on a conveyor belt manually. Now the process is automated and the bags of parcels are tipped onto the conveyor belt. So If a heavy parcel  is tipped on top of smaller or lighter parcels they are inevitably going to get crushed/smashed. Fair enough streamlining is more cost effective BUT Royal Mail have increased prices for their services &, as you can not insure anything other than tea towels!, they have no responsibility at all to offer a good, safe service.

It also amazes me how the buyers who do not sell on Ebay are the most critical of everything and anything. but that is a different gripe altogether.

Yes, we have seen many changes in Royal Mail since the 2013 privatisation. I see you are still using them (me too) and I also see why you are concerned about breakages with your collectable items. A pro packer taught me that there really is no substitute for double boxing fragile items.

One of the beneficial changes this year is Simple Delivery's general policy of refunding Buyers for items broken in transit while letting Sellers keep their money is a big protection against poor handling by carriers.
