I think Simple Delivery is going to be the thing that finally pushes me away from eBay as a private seller (and no, I won't be a business one, I'm not a business). I usually sell old computers or musical instruments from my hobbies, and the lack of overrides, parcel dimensions and services is an absolute joke.
I went to relist a Moog synthesizer today and couldn't set my rate or parcel size - Simple Delivery, no choice - but it's bigger than the 'medium parcel' and it's not even that big a synth. This is a monumentally boneheaded decision by eBay to impose on categories such as musical instruments or desktop computers. Fine, make it opt-in, but someone who can pack and send a Korg Trinity Pro X in a flightcase (36kg) or similar now gets this blindly idiotic 'service' defaulting to £7 postage via Evri.
Yes, I can choose from the two couriers offered. But guess what! If the parcel doesn't fit Royal Mail, eBay will /force/ me to use Evri anyway.
What a frustrating, pointless thing to enforce. I can see Facebook Marketplace absolutely loving the knock on effect, maybe they'll monetise it and start enforcing some rules to take up the slack eBay is apparently determined to introduce.
Come on eBay. You can do better than this. Your average 19" rack unit struggles to be properly packaged in a 61cm limit and couriers aren't using volumetric measurements. Put the 'advanced' link back because plenty of your users are advanced enough to not shaft themselves or the buyer on delivery, and frankly you're doing enough to accommodate the 'simple' approach with this contentless and contextless 'AI' descriptions that don't describe the item for sale at all because an LLM isn't psychic and can't see it.
