Simple Delivery - Not simple

I have had to cancel 2 orders recently because of Simple Delivery issues.

In the first instance the buyer purchased 2 items after I agreed a discount with them. Unfortunately they didn't combine the items in their basket. This meant I had to pay for 2 postage labels (I was offering free postage).  I was not able to combine the items, even though the weight would have been o.k., as eBay would have assumed I didn't post the second item if I didn't download and pay for the label. CS advised the only way to get a refund of the 2nd postage label was to cancel the orders.  Even then I didn't get a refund for one of the labels and had to contact eBay again. The next CS advisor told me that I had to fill out a claim form to get a refund and they sent me a link and although I completed the form on the 2nd of August there is still no sign of a refund.

I have cancelled another order today and really annoyed the buyer as apparently he won't get his money back for 3 days, outrageous, what are eBay doing with his money in the meantime?

This cancellation was due to my error, I selected a small parcel size rather than medium when listing the item and know from the forum and comments I have read that Royal Mail are just flatly refusing to accept the wrong size boxes. In the good old days (2024) I would have just covered the extra postage myself.

So just over the last month I have managed to annoy 2 buyers due to Simple Delivery and feel it is only a matter of time before the negative feed backs come rolling in.

I have now contacted eBay 3 times regarding the refund of the postage label for the cancelled order.  Each contact has resulted in a different answer and response. I was initially told 10 working days for the refund. This is not good enough in itself, if I cancelled a label under the old system I usually had a refund within 4 working days.

My latest contact advised that I have to wait 21 working days to get a refund, really, how is that even legal?  So today is the 21st working day, what do you think my of my chances?    Watch this space......

Simple Delivery - Not simple

So I had to contact ebay yet again because the postage label refund has not arrived.  On the 5th of September I received a long and apologetic reply stating that there had been a technical issue and we would definitely have our refund by the 12th. And still no refund. The time and energy I have put in to try and get this refund is beyond the pale and I am now thinking that eBay are hoping that sellers will just give up and let them keep the money.  I started this refund request on the 19th of July!

Selling on eBay used to be enjoyable with the odd minor issue but now it is fast becoming something I dread. I have a few things I would like to list in the hope of selling but I just don't have the energy to do something that will inevitably inflict more stress.

I think my experiences in 2025 could be the nail in my eBay coffin.

They have definitely been having some tech issues with the refunds. They are slowly catching up though. On Monday I got 8 postage label refunds that I had been waiting between 2.5 and 7 weeks for. They all came through at the same time. Phew.

Simple Delivery - Not simple

Hi, I bought an item from a private seller, about £16. Simple Delivery chose Evri so he dropped it off at I assume his local Post Office and the tracking showed it waiting for collection. The tracking then did not progress still showing it awaiting collection after 7 days so I reported it as a non delivery. Ebay then enforced a further waiting period to see if it got delivered, it did not. They then issued a full refund with a note that if it did arrive I was to keep it free of charge. The same day a penalty notice arrived from my local RM district office (not Evri!) demanding £9.40 to deliver it. This was the first I'd heard of my parcel for over 10 days so where it had been for 10 days? Yes I can now get my item for £9.40 instead of £16 but eBay have given me it FOC so I'm ringing them to sort it out.

Hi sp834, this simple delivery is riddled with flaws. The last few times i sold it was a headache and just the same with some recent purchases. I’ve given up completely for now hoping things will improve. I just haven’t gone the time for it when it’s going wrong through no fault of my own and causing stress and wasting time…..
Fingers crossed for better times, and I would like to get going again for Christmas but I’m not sure.

It sounds as though the item was inadvertently put in the wrong sack by the staff member at the Post Office.  When that happens Royal Mail will still deliver it but there will obviously be a surcharge as they haven't been paid for the delivery.  Unfortunately, there won't be anything further that eBay can do as they have already given you a full refund.

This isn't actually anything directly to do with Simple Delivery.  The same thing could happen with normal custom postage but the it would  then be down to the seller to refund you, not eBay, so this is actually one of the advantages of Simple Delivery.
