When buying this service from Royal mail directly it costs £1.90. When using ebay options it is £2.10 and there is no £1.90 option . As a new seller at this time of change on ebay i am doubly confused - Is the extra a profit for ebay as the reseller of RM services or is it a fee for some kind of tracking or protection please?
Many thanks - 'Poshandnot'

2.10 is the price you’d pay at a post office
similarly with all other parcel sies…eBay quote the post office price not the online purchase price
I guess some people buy their postage at the post office so the quote works for them
this is what the buyer is charged if you pick it rather than entering your own cost
but when you’re buying your labels off eBay which is online not sure what you get charged as a seller…the online price or the quoted price

I don't know why they don't have the full range of prices.
My advice would be to buy your postage online, direct from RM as you have been doing.
You can still opt out of Ebay Simple Delivery.

Just opt out of simple delivery by revising your listing...Select 'Custom Postage' and put in the one you want at the price you want...Good Luck

Thank you 🙂

Thank you.
Yes, i agree - and indeed i don't think i have used, or will be using the simple delivery any time soon.
But what i have noticed with the price difference mentioned is that even when using the tailored postage options on a listing there is still a higher price for a service through ebay compared to RM - eg: the same weight and size via ebay listing costs £2.10 but via RM site £1.90 -
I guess i was curious if this was because ebay are adding the 20p under the banner of some kind of protection from delivery probs...

Add it to the list of cons and scams ebay pull on us all daily. And yeah, never use simple delivery, ive had to cancel 2 orders this week because of it. 30 quid gone poof.

That's gotta be feeling like pretty tough going no doubt!

A-ha! Now that makes perfect sense!!!
An online versus an at the counter price... Yes of course!!!
Of course it is all madness - but thank you so much for helping me to at least understand the method in the madness!
