Ineffective Royal Mail Tracking Via eBay

I've started selling on eBay fairly recently and have had issue after issue with Royal Mail. I buy the postage via eBay and take the items to my post office and get a receipt every time, the only exception is when I have had Royal Mail collect from my home and then I have an email receipt.

 

I pack everything carefully and appropriately.

 

I am finding the tracking showing the item has been sent doesn't work via eBay or on the Royal Mail website, when something is delivered doesn't work and to boot some items are not being delivered at all or being damaged.

 

Can anyone recommend a more reliable method for sending items from letter size upwards as I'm so tired of having to resend repeat items out to avoid bad feedback because of the ineptitude of Royal Mail.

 

Is anyone else having this issue? Can we claim back the postage via eBay? 

 

I've not yet started to look in to trying to get any of my costs back from them but thats next on my list. Between extra product, repackaging and reposting my already very small profit margin is gone.
