How can I dodge the dreaded 'Simple' Postage scourge? (Go 'Business'?)

Hello all,

I have been happily selling on eBay for the better part of a decade now, and am very comfortable/used to hand-writing my addresses, combing postage wherever I can, and taking my items to my nearest post office to send them via Royal Mail (For it is the best service that balances reliability and cheap-postage-rates).

However, when I went to restock my shop with some new items today, I found that (on mobile, at least) I was unable to select any option other than 'Simple Postage'. I still have around 150 of my previous listings that use my preffered postage method (Royal mail 2nd/T48 as 'Free Postage'), and am concerned now that I will be unable to continue listing my items with my preffered method.

'Simple' Delivery is anything but simple - it would force me to bring a list of sorted QR codes to my local Post Office, increasing the already lenghty time I can spend in there weekly. Furthermore, 'Simple' Postage will charge my customers about 2/5ths more for delivery, which on top of the Vinted style buyer protection fee, will discourage purchases, I fear! - This new, forced system reads to me as a way for eBay to save money on buyer/seller disputes, whilst also making a tidy bonus profit on overcharged postage labels... How low!

I've gathered from some sources that one can re-accsess 'Custom Postage' options by switching to a 'Business' account... Is this so? If so - what are the main differences between 'Induvidual' and 'Business' accounts? It's my understanding that it restores the detailed listing creator that was taken from the masses a few years ago, whilst also opening up your page for better 'branding' customisation? Has anyone taken the plunge, and if so, would you be so kind as to share a small report on the matter with me here?

If this is totally unavoidable, I'm unsure what I may do, I begrudge leaving eBay, for it is so well-known and useful, and I'm a well established seller within my small realm of collectable toys. It seems that eBay is aware that its either eBay, Vinted, or going solo when it comes to online selling, and its a pity that they don't seem to be wanting to rise above the competition within the sector, instead settling for a system totally alike to Vinted, which maximises profits.

Thanks for reading, I look forward to any responses!

Simple Delivery is just for private sellers, so you would be rid of it if you switched to a business account.   If you buy items for the purpose of reselling them you are supposed to register as a business on ebay anyway.

To add to excellent advice received, here is a bit more about eBay's Simple Delivery.

SD labels are generally cheaper than over-the-counter prices. For most Items under £20 you may opt out of SD and use Custom postage (full details on these Discussion boards). You can also elect not to use an SD label but to buy your own tracked service and substitute the tracking - the Buyer's SD label purchase will be automatically refunded, or if you purchased it you can apply for a refund within 14-days (again full details on these boards).
