Has anybody had similar experience of Hermes delivery company, in so far as they do not bother to leave any notice in letterbox or send email about failed delivery attempts?

Yes I read that story a long time ago. He was sacked apparently.

I arranged and paid on line last Thursday for three parcels to be picked up on Friday. I just looked at my account to see how they're getting on and it says they are in transit, with the courier for delivery.... I wonder if that still applies seeing as they are still sitting in my hall?

CG I had problems with collecting but I got a refund in full...twice that happened so ive given up and use the drop off service instead. I phoned up and they refunded strait away.
Yesterday 2 young ladies delivered MyHermes parcels so they must be trying hard to catch up with xmas deliveries.

I'm going to ring today to make sure they'll be collected today.
I suppose the thing with taking them to a drop off point is you don't know how long they sit in there before being collected, but at least you can't see them, and so not worry about them!

Like any other courier, they are not perfect.
However, they have real people on the end of the phone at Customer Services so I have always had me FEW problems resolved - and compensation paid quickly. (I even got a refund for ceramic which I was not entitled to - but given as a 'valued customer')
I have sent over 300 parcels now as an eBay/MDCC seller and would continue to use them. Delivery is only as good as the self-employed at the other end though!
eBay did give a recent warning about delays in parcels because of a fire at one of their hubs.

Hubby took our parcels to the pick up point yesterday morning, as advised by the lady on the phone.
The man came to pick them up yesterday afternoon!
I know they're very busy but why keep accepting them if they can't cope. We've not heard anything about the payment we made to have them picked up from here.
A phone call to say they're running late (like 5 days!!) would have been appreciated.

I think that you will hear stories in the New Year about RM/Parcel Force not delivering on time also.
I stood for 45 minutes yesterday in a main post office and heard Parcel Force saying they wouldn't take all parcels from the PO Manager, So who wins? The PO Manager or the Parcel Force collection agent?
And who actually cares other than the person who used a parcel system in good faith?
