Hello, I hope you can help me with my issue. I havent been able to engage in an appeals process. This is only one issue but I need to explain it in full, for my own sanity if nothing else.
I've had the email from Ebay saying I need to register as a business by Sept 4th. I am not a business seller so I requested a call from Cust services and got a call from a guy called 'Jose' in America. I explained that I'm selling my own 2nd hand stuff from my collection of Toys, Warhammer and other wargame stuff that I built up over my last fifty odd years of life.
As a bit of background. I'm a nerd who aways worked full time and lived alone. I had disposable income. So I used to fill my life with stuff. Toys ,comics, wargames miniatures and airsoft. I always used to move on stuff that I'd got bored with or no longer needed after a life changing illness.
But I really started clearing out most of my large collection of items 2 years ago after I had 2 mini strokes and was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and heart failiure. I figured that it would be better if I sell it, than rely on family who wont have a clue what it is or what it might be worth if the worst happens. I just didn't want it to go to landfill. The money has been useful to clear debts and helped with my day to day bills. I dont buy stuff to sell on for profit, I dont make anything to sell on for profit. HMRC do not say that my selling off my own old stuff is engaging in a business seeking profit. It says the opposite on their own online tool. I'm not doing anything wrong.
The email said I can appeal by clicking a link which just goes to the 'upgrade your account' page. So I requested a CS call back to ask how I make an appeal. He put me on hold for 2 mins and just said the appeal is denied!?! He claims the government has asked ebay to do this directly so I cant appeal.
I dont believe for a moment that HMRC contacted Ebay directly about me selling off my old action figures and toy soldiers.
He didn't really sound like he was knowledgeable on the UK situation, and I explained to him that I'd used the UK Gov's own website to see if I needed to be a business for tax.
As I'm selling off my own personal stuff that wasnt bought to sell for profit as a private individual, it said theres no tax to pay on it.
I wont register as a business because I'm not a business seller. I dont even meet the criteria on Ebays business seller page. It seemed that they are looking solely at amounts sold, and dont want to engage in anything else.
Which is just plain wrong. Just because I had a lot of stuff to move on, does not make me a business.
Is there any way to speak to a person who is both informed and can be bothered to look into my issue properly? Customer Services is just fobbing people off with pre prepared blanket statement because its too much work to look at an individual case. Its bad customer service that can have a real impact on someones lives. All I got from the Customer service rep was that I cant appeal and have no choice. Again, this is incorrect.
I just dont know where to turn with this, I'm completely stressed out. I didn't even get to make an appeal.

This week after communicating with a seller I made & seller accepted a counter offer. Seller thinks item is sold having accepted, I think it’s bought awaiting payment - but NO! The item now remains for sale until the buyer pays for it.
Question – Does eBay think buyers should be / can be watching 24/7 once they make a counter offer on the off chance it’s accepted?
I appreciate buyers / sellers can lose out when not seeing an offer / counter, fair enough, but this is a different matter considering the offer is agreed.

I’m having difficulty understanding the search process results. Looked up various items put in all my specifics & it shows for example:
Best Match 345 items
Highest Price 255 items
Lowest price STREAMLINED by eBay to 63 items, updating to 255 items once I bypassed that.
Question - So what happened to 90 items from the original search & why the removal of 192 (or 282 from Best Match) items by streamlining?
Certainly frustrating for me as a buyer as this is not a one off & I’m sure sellers are delighted to have their paid for listings hidden.

Afternoon, are there any plans for ebay to allow business sellers to refund an order upto say 12 months on the ebay platform rather than the current I believe 3 months, as most new items are supplied with at least 12 months guarantee.
As currently the only option we have is to refund via paypal or bank transfer for anything older than 3 months according to seller support.

Hi @sweetcharity.2013 ,
Do you have the item number as an example where the item was still for sale after your offer was accepted by the seller?
Thank you,
Kat

Hi sweetcharity.2013, thanks for your question.
It'd be hard for me to confirm or answer without looking into your actual search, but it sounds like you've filtered your search, which is why your results are being shortlisted. If you want, you can do a search when you can, and you can tell me exactly what filters and specs you are entering, so I can replicate that from my end to see if we get the right results.
Thank you,
Marco

Hi @coopers-direct,
There are no current plans to introduce the option up to 12 months at the moment. However this is a good feedback point so I will share this for review for future changes and enhancements.
Thank you,
Kat

Good afternoon
Where is the information on the new feedback policies?
I ask as we asked for a review to be removed as it was regarding the item not our service. However, after requesting this, it said it would ask the buyer to review the feedback. Within minutes, the buyer said they would not.
From my understanding, I thought ebay staff review the feedback to check it complies with policy. If all that is going happen is the feedback review requests are being sent to the buyer then what is the point of this?
How can this then be fair?
Best wishes

Hi @abradley001,
Generally speaking if your sales are equal to or more than £1,740 or you complete 30 or more sales eBay are required to report this to HMRC. This possibly part of why you received the email. You can find out more here.
Unfortunately we cant look into your account from here, it needs to go through the guys in Customer Support. They are set up to take the appeals, we don't have any way to review or overturn the decision.
Thanks,
Dave

Hello kat@ebay,
The item number is / was 395577163766. I bought it, it's also been delivered. Luckily I was messaging the seller at the time the offer was accepted so saw it was still listed for some time after they'd accepted my offer. Plus there was a banner on the listing telling me it was still for sale until I paid.

Hope all of you are well over the last few weeks.
As highlighted in the thread below
Tech support says :messages to upgrade from a priv... - Page 2 - UK eBay Community
It seems eBay are starting to crack down on incorrectly registered accounts, are you able to ask managers why accounts who they believe have been breaking the law are now being rewarded with free subscriptions, free selling and free 1 to 1 help for complying with the law of the UK whilst it seems accounts who are 100% compliant have been given nothing? This is rewarding criminal activity and surely eBay wouldnt want to be seen as doing that?

Hi lincolnshiremarine, thanks for your question.
Changes around the feedback policies will be highlighted in our help pages in the next few weeks, and you will be able to see the reasons and scenarios where we will be removing feedback once these changes are completed. Until then, we won't be able to share further information.
Please note that item reviews won't impact your feedback score, so if the item review is negative, it won't impact your feedback score. Also, if your feedback removal was denied, it probably didn't qualify for removal, and in that case no further actions could be taken, I'm afraid.
Thank you,
Marco

I'm fine with ebay reporting it to HMRC. Thats not the issue. HMRC are ok with it. My issue is that I'm being told by ebay to register as a business or my account will be limited on the 4th Sept. HMRC say I dont need to.
I didn't even get to make an appeal, I was just told it was denied. So who can I speak to? Are the Ebay to member team in Ireland still a thing, and if so how do I get in touch?
Thanks

Hello marco@ebay,
I can tell you exactly as I've just re-done it.
Search 'Spinning Rings' / All categories
Specifics under Metals is Sterling Silver
Specifics under location is UK only.
Exactly the same results as I've questioned.
NOTE: These figures were after I filled in my specifics, not before 🙂

Dear Marco
It did not even got as far as ebay staff looking at it, that is my point. As soon as we asked for a removal with our reasons, it said that this has been submitted to the buyer. The buyer refused to remove it.
A ebay staff member has not looked at it.
Please advise

Hello eBay Community,
I may be bringing up a previous known issue but I have tried to resolve myself with no joy. The subject is the Nectar bonus points from 2nd April 2024 to 30th April 2024. To qualify for 500, 1000 or 1500 Nectar Points 3, 4 or 5 purchases over £10 were to be made on the eBay app. I made the 5 £10 purchases on the app and my eBay statement clearly shows the 5 purchases qualified with a heading in green stating BONUS POINTS. It would not show this unless the 5 purchases qualified.
I tried Nectar customer service who said eBay are responsible and there message is the purchases did not qualify. This does not make sense, so I tried eBay CS, who said something similar but are reluctant to explain why BONUS POINTS (qualified) are clearly stated on my eBay statement. I can not understand why they are refusing to acknowledge the system error. I can only think they do not have the necessary tools to see or there is another reason they are not acknowledging the BONUS POINTS.
Since this, I discovered eBay Community and found out the April Nectar points bonus was a common error amongst customers. So, I was hoping someone would have another look at my case and explain why I have not received 1,500 points bonus with Nectar, as it clearly shows in the eBay statement.
My eBay statement showing the purchases that qualified, attached.
Hoping, Chris

Thank you for this @sweetcharity.2013 . The banner showed on your side to remind of payment which i appreciate you would of already known. I will follow up offline to check into the listing still showing for sale after the offer was accepted. Once I get clarity on that part I will update you.
Thank you,

I sent a buyer an offer yesterday which they countered and I accepted.
I didn't get the usual sale notification and noticed that it went back to them like a counter offer for the same price and the item is still live as they haven't paid.
Is this a change to the offer system so no buyer can have an unpaid buy it now item? I don't mind it but I am confused by it as I haven't seen any announcement that this will now happen.
As the buyer hasn't paid I am wondering how this acceptance appeared to them at their end. Do ebay tell them I accepted or do they present it as a counter offer? My buyer might think I was being fly here and seems to have pulled out from buying so I am just curious. Thanks
