I’m looking for some clarifications on eBay rules please

It is ok to list items, which have, what could be considered adult themed items – like items with profanity and/or drug use? I am asking as I have seen several items on eBay which have explicit and/or swearing text/images on the item itself (but not the listing title).  If this is not the case, why would items not be removed when reported through the “report item” section or when speaking to members of eBay Customer Support who refuse (correctly) to even read or describe what is on some items?

It is ok to list items, which say for example is a birthday card at £2.99 and the listing is for said birthday card but the seller puts in an unrelated item at a super cheap price in the listing, like a sheet of A4 paper for 99p, so the item is listed at between 99p and £2.99 therefor gaining advantage in the search engine based on a low starting price or would this be in violation of search and browse manipulation?

Hi Everyone

I regularly buy off VAT registered businesses on Ebay so that I can reclaim the VAT.

The sellers VAT number and "I provide invoices with VAT separately displayed" shows in their listings but half  of the time no invoice is sent with the order even if I add a note asking for one when I buy.

This then means that I have to email the seller and chase for an invoice. Some sellers do not respond, some send an invalid invoice or one that does not show the correct VAT. If the sale is over 90 days old, I am told that eBay will not allow them to generate an invoice. I have also been given £0 VAT invoices by overseas sellers with UK VAT numbers shipping from UK claiming falsely that Ebay deal with the VAT.

Other marketplaces allow the VAT registered seller to upload an invoice and require them to upload an invoice promptly if the customer is VAT registered so that you can download the invoice easily. This would make the buying experience much better for a VAT registered customer like me.

I’m looking for some clarification on eBay rules please.

Is it ok to have two accounts – one business, one personal – business for selling, personal for buying?
It is ok to have two accounts – two business, selling different items as each other but with the same business details (ie company number, VAT etc?)
Is it ok to have two accounts – two business, selling the same items as each other and with the same business details (ie company number, VAT etc?)
Is it ok to have three or more accounts – all business, selling the same items as each other and with the different business details (ie company number, VAT etc?)
Is it ok to have three or more accounts – all business, selling the same items as each other and with the same business details (ie company number, VAT etc?)

Can you clear up this query and let me know which part of eBay rules apply to the above scenarios please?

It is ok to list 2 or more of the same item with the same description and buy it now price or would this be a violation of eBay rules under duplicate listings?

It is ok to list 2 or more of the same item with the same description and buy it now price but with a different order of images, all duplicates having the same images or would this be a violation of eBay rules under duplicate listings?

It is ok to list 2 or more of the same item with the same description and buy it now price in with other items (ie compiling multiple listings in a new listing) or would this be a violation of eBay rules under compilation listings?

It is ok to list 2 or more of the same item with a variation as different listings – so a birthday card that has an age on it for example. Would it need to be one item with a drop down option when buying showing different ages or could a seller list 99 listings – the same item & design but with a different age on each one, so one listing for 1st birthday, one listing for 2nd birthday and so on or would this be a breach of eBay rules under duplicate listings?

Hi chilloutgames, thanks for your question.

I can see what you mean, so I will definitely pass this on for you, so this can be taken into consideration. Please note that this doesn't necessarily mean that it will be implemented, but thanks for bringing it up to us.

Have a good one,

Marco

Hi @custom-giftsuk , thanks for your post.

Listings cannot be in violation of our profanity or a drug policy.

I wouldn't have a details as to why there was no action taken on a specific report. However, if you do see listings on the site that could be potentially in a breach of our policies, please do report them and our trust & safety team will review it, and take the appropriate action.

Thank you,

Anita

Hi @custom-giftsuk

For variation listings the items must be related to each other. In general, listings like you've said would be against the search manipulation policy. If you see any items like that you can report the item and the policy team will look into it.

Thanks,

Dave

Thank you for your reply. These items have been reported, by myself and others several times, yet no action is taken. I know you cannot comment on individual cases but if say, a seller was to list similar items and have them removed yet when others are reported nothing is done about it. I spoke to a customer support person last week in the trust & safety team who told me to be less sensitive and when I explained the rules, as described, she said she did not believe me and hung up. So would you care me to post a copy of the item I  complained about and yet nothing has been done?

Good afternoon

Can I firstly start by saying thank you to Marco for submitting/requesting a revision on a  feedback review,  which got rejected under the old ebay feedback rules.  Under the new revised feedback policy, it has been removed.  Thank you.

Now that ebay are on a roll resolving issues, can they resolve the estimated delivery dates please.

It appears that the ebay shipping team have stopped communicating with me despite providing evidence.  I sent emails on 11th June 2024-  no reply, 2 July 2024- , no reply,  1st August 2024 asking for updates, no reply and 5th August 2024, no reply.  It is the correct email address.

What can we do if the shipping team whom are looking into this, no longer reply.

Yesterday ( Tuesday 6th August) our shop was on time away as I had to attend a funeral.   Today I have dispatched the items sold on Tuesday, and see that ebay are telling the buyers they will arrive tomorrow or the following day.  This is not three working days.  This results in endless messages at night asking "where is my parcel"

Order numbers: 07-11912-19363

07-11912-20791, 19-11901-05224, 07-11913-78597, 20-11901-84413

You only have to look at the forums regarding this, as soon as we print the ebay label off, ebay thinks the courier has it in their possession and count down to delivery starts.

I am seeing an increase in messages asking "where is my parcel", or the advert said it would arrive today"

Best wishes

Hi custom-giftsuk, thanks for your question.

You can have 2 accounts if you wish, and your account won't have any problems as long as they are in compliance. The only thing is that you will need a different email address for each account. If you click here, you can see how to do it, and what you can do or can't do. Please note that you can't use more than one account for activity related to the same listing.

I wanted to say as well, that as per the weekly chat rules above, you're only allowed one question per post.

Thanks,

Marco

Hi @williabaxte7

I'm not aware of any issues with leaving feedback but sellers can only leave positive feedback for buyers.

With the unpaid item be sure to report it through the usual channels though, its how we track buyer behaviour so it may be something that could be actioned.

Thanks,

Dave

So as per your message above having two (or three or more) different accounts with the same business details selling the same items - would that be within the rules or would that be a violation?

Hello community team

I'm afraid I'm banging on about the same old subject, because nothing is being done.
I've previously said I wouldn't bother reporting these issues anymore, but last week

I reported a seller last week who has at least 3 shops, all selling similar items, at least 2000 listings in each, is a 'private seller' and doesn't accept returns.
It is incredibly frustrating that eBay isn't policing their own site, but my question is why do these sellers continue to get away with this obvious fee avoidance?
Jo

Hi lincolnshiremarine, thanks for your question.

First of all, thanks for the kudos!

Regarding your question on EDDs, there is nothing to resolve at the moment as EDDs are working as expected right now. I understand you are not happy with the way it works, and I'd be more than happy to pass this on as feedback. However, there is nothing to resolve at the moment as there are no issues affecting it, and there are no plans of changing it.

Thank you,

Marco

Hi @custom-giftsuk , thanks for you post.

We don't allow more than one fixed price listing of an identical item at the same time from the same seller (including if the images are in a different order).

Items that have different variations, such as color or size, can be listed as variations, but it wouldn't be allowed to compile multiple different items in one listing. And your last question I belive was already answered by Dave.

You can visit this page to see more details about the policy.

Please also note, that as per weekly chat rules, it is one question per post.

Thank you,

Anita

As advised in my last reply, you can't use more than one account for activity related to the same listing. This is all stated in the help page I shared with you, which you can see here.

Thank you,
