Hello All,
Do you enjoy the casual browse ( Luxury Items - Bentley, Leica etc) whilst then seeking out items to purchase - I do.
But I'm being 'put off' by receiving Seller Offers simply because I viewed the item - I currently have SEVEN of them in my feed, all waiting many hours before they're removed! I cannot delete them manually!
If I might choose to pursue a particular item, I put into my Watch List, as simple as that.
Also 'Ebay' it is a reminder that every keystroke I make, (like the Police Song) - Every move you make I will be watching you! The above Seller Offers are unwarranted. It's your Platform, but Privacy should be a consideration for your Members.
Perhaps Ebay it is a practice that needs to be stopped - it's hardly subtle is it.
I'm perfectly capable of seeking items out that I'm definitely interested in by placing them in my Watch List.
What say you - do you agree or find these 'unsolicited Offers useful' ?

I never send out offers to people so its not that
02-09-2024 4:29 PM
Me neither, Their send offers feature is a liability ! so I've read so won't use it as it then starts a chain reaction of constantly sending offers there after... once it's auto engaged by using "send offers" the very first time...

i agree whole heartedly,im sick to death of receiving fake offers from narnia and having the popups from them and constantly having to decline etc..
more often that not theres other sellers from same village in narnia selling the same item for less already.
Their "offers" are always the same 5% off their "vat included" advert price n then they add that mysterious "special" vat amount that brings total to about 5p of the original price...complete waste of time..plus i doubt the uk tax office will see those vat payments relayed to their coffers by the sellers from narnia.cn .
i had to laugh when i saw your buyer thread get hijacked by misc "sellers",cos its all about them isnt it,poor dears..
All we,the buyers want is an "off/on button" that gives us the choice wether we want to be plagued by all these *bleep* pointless offers ,or not.
Afterall, its our ebay acount not the "sellers".
sorry to all if i seem a bit grumpy n rude, almost 70yrs old n it seems to be an inbuilt "script" that gets worse the older you get,,,,,grumpyness n rudeness..

All done ! - Enjoy no more unwanted offers from eBay sellers.

Are you only interested in grumbling alongside fellow buyers rather than hearing from sellers why they do what they do? The OP hasn't indicated that only buyers should reply.
In any case, I'd recommend that all buyers try selling at least one cheap thing in order to see what the system looks like to sellers. It makes it easier to know when a seller is lying to you if you know the system as a seller too.

"fellow buyers rather than hearing from sellers " ..do keep up at the back..pfft.
see,all about you isnt it,why should we have to sell something in order to qualify to have an opinion..
if we were that way inclined we'd be in the selling forum wouldnt we..where i used to go when i was a seller......
my early feedback was all selling (:chuckle:)
heehee

Interesting that you mark my post as "helpful" when you clearly think it's anything but.
Buyers and sellers can have opinions, it's good to hear multiple perspectives in any discussion.
If buyers and sellers would each stick to their own forums, we would continue being annoyed at each other's actions without sellers ever knowing what the customers find annoying and vice versa.
I'd be interested to hear from @dgm1670 whether this discussion was meant for buyers only or sellers are allowed to explain what the system looks like from our side.

why do you talk to say nothing?

It should be law that you have to opt into any daft idea that greedy platforms operate, rather than opt out. EBay are rather like Facebook, their subsidaries and X where the aim is pure greed pretending to be about communication. Unfortunately eBay has little integrity and is only interested in profit, and that's why we have to spend so much time as free labour for all global companies. They suck the will out of all of us. Opt in and not opt out is the message we should send these bosses who have literally zero common sense as, they are only focussed on profit.

October 2024 - I'm also receiving Seller's Offers that I have not added to my 'Watch' list.
No wonder eBay Sales are down if eBayers are receiving these Offers all the time as they are not becoming Buyers.
Now I only look at eBay's items if buying.
Today I received an Offer for an item not on my Watch list, I deleted it & went elsewhere to look & purchase.

I receive these offers from eBay all the time;-
"Because you've showed an interest in this item the seller has sent you a private offer. Hurry now to take advantage of this offer before its too late."
This usually happens when I either add an item to my watch list or I look at it more than once.
Most of the time I just ignore these offers because in the past when I have accepted these offers I found out that eBay autopaid the seller and charged my bank or PayPal account directly before giving me the chance to select how I would like to pay, ie Not giving me the option to log into my PayPal account and book the item on "Pay In 3" where I would conveniently be able to spread the cost of a £75.00 item in 3 x £25.00 payments for 3 months instead of eBay autocharging my PayPal and PayPal then debiting my card for the full amount in one go ! leaving me short of money for that week 😞
So many times if I get a offer from eBay, I will just ignore it and pay the original £80 buy it now price because I can control what payment option I want to use without eBay just swiping my account for the full whack before I had the chance to book it on Pay In 3 installments which suits me better 🙂

Totally agree.. why ebay think their can control everyone is a bloody joke.. only a real matter of time before ebay disappears.. robbing *bleep*s.. i find that ebay are nothing but a bunch of manipulating controlling *bleep*s.. i"ve seen how ebay operates all to often over the yrs.. really surprised me ebay have literally lasted this long.. amazon is on the urge of pushing ebay to oneside.. hopefully not long

A lot of us put items on a watch list to see what they sell for to test the market. EBay are simply obsessed with money over running a website properly. They have poor, weak management and little respect for their members in real terms. This type of shoddy behaviour will increase with the absurd and totally unnecessary AI’s dominance. The moneymen will have everyone stuck on screens soon, whilst the outside world will become increasingly polluted and unfit to live in. And yes, we will all keep getting reminders to stay stuck in this absurd scenario.

True, but eBay push a lot of sellers into free postage and Amazon don’t and you have to pay a monthly fee to get it.
Sent from my iPhone
eBay are proposing a similar "Prime" style system where buyers pay an optional monthly fee to get fast and free delivery

I'm here because of course I made the mistake of returning to ebay and look at absolutely loads of items before putting a few in my watchlist and in the last 2 days I have had nearly 100 offers from items that I had already dismissed.
I don't mind mind them e-mailing me because I ignore that e-mail address since the day dot as it gets spammed telling me I just bought an item, I just paid for an item, the item has been dispatched and numerous other pointless e-mails telling me what I can see on ebay.
But if I viewed something and did not put it in my watchlist then I don't want it. I already dismissed it. I don't want 100 spam offers because I was selecting a shortlist from 2-300 listings.
And this is why I rarely use this platform anymore to buy things. Its so annoying that ebay does not have an option to turn off offers on "viewed items" because sometimes its useful to have offers on watched items but hey ho. I'll go back to using Amazon. I used to buy everything off ebay back in the day but the past decade it has become an increasingly poor experience.
BTW My first ebay account was in 2004! Back when you could actually find things easier before the sea of Chinese duplicate listings appeared. I guess I'm the kind of customer ebay doesn't want. They want social media / mobile impulsive users not laptop searchers

I feel that eBay just have zero common sense period. EBay used too be easy to use as you say, however, they are so greed focussed that they just harass us all the time unless you turn off things in your account settings, which hacks me off as I want to opt into things rather than spend my time opting out which, because we sign agreements that dictate what eBay wants we have no choice but to do it for ourselves if we want to use eBay.
So, they came back with this to me, when I complained about all these useless unwanted and totally unnecessary messages, and I thinkthat I have not had any daft messages since from eBay.
"Please check and accordingly update your email preferences, to do this: Go to your My eBay > Account tab > Communication Preferences > Show (for relevant section) > Send me an email - change to None.

This is a real problem, I just received an 'offer' and almost accepted it because I thought it was an offer to buy my identical item I was selling. It was only when I scrutinised the image that I realised it was an auction for my identical item I was just comparing to my own listing.
