Receiving Seller Offers on items Viewed but NOT in my Watch List!

Hello All,

Do you enjoy the casual browse ( Luxury Items - Bentley, Leica etc) whilst then seeking out items to purchase - I do.

But I'm being 'put off' by receiving Seller Offers simply because I viewed the item - I currently have SEVEN of them in my feed, all waiting many hours before they're removed! I cannot delete them manually!

If I might choose to pursue a particular item, I put into my Watch List, as simple as that.

Also 'Ebay' it is a reminder that every keystroke I make, (like the Police Song) - Every move you make I will be watching you! The above Seller Offers are unwarranted. It's your Platform, but Privacy should be a consideration for your Members.

Perhaps Ebay it is a practice that needs to be stopped - it's hardly subtle is it.

I'm perfectly capable of seeking items out that I'm definitely interested in by placing them in my Watch List.

What say you - do you agree or find these 'unsolicited Offers useful' ?

That's what happens when sellers use the option to automatically send offers.

People just trying to make couple of bucks to feed their families. Simple as that.
If you don't want, just ignore or decline an offer

Yes I'm finding this new thing of sending offers off-putting when I've simply browsed something -maybe I have a similar item to sell and I'm simply checking content  and next minute I have an alert with an offer. I would imagine that the successful sale rate based on spamming buyers is not that high.

I've decided I'm going to browse when I'm not logged in.

Yeah this just happened to me, and it's super creepy. And no I'm not interested in that item, that's why I didn't buy or watch it.

I have a similar problem in reverse. I list my items with 'allow offers' turned off - but of late I am getting offers. It's annoying to say the least.

Receiving Seller Offers on items Viewed but NOT in my Watch List!

As a loyal seller on eBay since 2007 I have never used the "Send Offer" feature... but I do also receive tons of discount  offers from other sellers for items that I watch or simply view more than once...

Whilst, I understand that this can be upsetting to some people... I fully understand the reason WHY ?...

It is because eBay has now made it very difficult to sell some items on here... I list  50 odd items and ONLY 5 are getting views ? out of 50+ items ??... I get people just watching 1 or 2 listings from the first moment I list them and that's it NOTHING... even reducing the price or editing the listing to get eBay to reindex it does NOTHING....

Before "Send Offers" and "Promoted listings" (Pay for more visibility) were introduced I used to get lots of regular sales every week, Now I am lucky to get 1 sale every 6 weeks if that !...

I'm telling you all that eBay has now gone down hill and it is this VERY POOR SELLING EXPERIENCE we have now since 2020/21 is the main reason WHY you are now  receiving UNSOLICITED offers from DESPERATE SELLERS WHO ARE NOW STRUGGLING TO SELL ANYTHING AND EARN A LIVING TO SUPPLIMENT THEIR VERY LOW INCOME IN SOME CASES...

So PLEASE understand WHY you now receive these discount offers from eBay sellers who are now struggling to stay a float...

Edit:-

Here is my sales for the last 31 days - 100% DOWN AND NOTHING SOLD and this ain't no joke 😞

It's a separate issue, but I'm sure it doesn't encourage buyers to use eBay when we click to make a bid and are nearly tricked into preauthorisation of payment for that AND EVERY OTHER ITEM THEREAFTER.

I usually plan to get a few items over a day or two to combine postage. That makes it worthwhile and also encourages me to buy several smaller items from a seller at the same time. I'm not going to miss out on that. Plus the chance of making a mistake is less if I can immediately contact the seller and retract a bid instead of giving the go ahead to taking it from my bank.

I think sellers can opt out of asking for it, but after a couple of near misses, I'm going to stick with sellers I know don't use it. I'm going back to Amazon for everything else, sadly.

Agree 100%.

I accepted such an offer last month and then found out that eBay had autopaid the seller on my behalf after I accepted their offer - I was surprised but then thought that eBay must have done this to cut down on the number of unpaid item disputes etc...  Still not very nice but I can see their point.

I have turned pre-authorisation off but I am starting to question it after a few non payers who ruin it for everyone.

Last week I had a buyer from Canada mess me around asking me to turn off eBay GSP to post a coin cheaper. I agreed to post to Canada untracked for a £2.50 postage cost (yes £2.50!). They then tried to squeeze another 20p out of me on the item price, I even agreed to that and then they let the offer virtually time out and then rejected it. I don't know what goes through some buyers heads on here.

It is now getting annoying, put in a counter offer of 10p and they normally go away 😁

Some sellers might accept that just to get a sale 🤣

Did you by any chance send an offer for any of your items ?... If so, even if you just send out only 1 offer, eBay will then take the liberty to start automatically sending watchers and viewers offers on your behalf !! ... giving the  people who receive such offers a chance to send you (the seller) a counter offer which is what I think you're now getting even though you have "Best Offer" switched off.

I had  researced this from Google that's how I know and this is the reason why I will NEVER send any offers or use that feature - eBay should revise this "Send Offer" thing so that it only sends out the offers you want and not start a chain reaction of constantly sending people offers willy nilly without your consent !

I have never made an offer for an item. Not sure what 'send an offer for any of your items' means - why would I make an offer on my own item?

More to the point, in my view Ebay should properly respect having 'allow offers' when it's turned off.

This means when you list an item for sale on eBay and it starts attracting views and watchers eBay then gives most sellers the option to send offers out to potential buyers, Whilst this might work well for many sellers who use this feature to gain more sales... It has some drawbacks of eBay automatically continuing to constantly send offers on your behalf to viewers/watchers of your items, this then also gives another down side of buyers then having the option to make a counter offer on the original offer that eBay had  sent to a viewer/buyer on your behalf (with or without your consent !)

So let's just say you list an item for £40.00 plus £5.00 postage, it's something a lot of people want and attracts a lot of attention of views and watchers... but no one is buying it... eBay then gives an option called "Send Offers" for that item and any other items you might have listed which has been viewed or watched...so say you just have the one item for sale at £40.00 plus the postage... You want it to sell and don't mind letting it go for £36.00 (plus £5 postage), so you use "Send Offer" to send everyone who have viewed/watched your item an offer of £36.00 (plus postage), a potential buyer/interested party gets this offer of £36.00 plus postage and thinks this is still too much... Wonder if the seller will accept £30 plus delivery ?...so makes a counter offer of £30 and if you accept the buyer's counter offer the item then sells for £35.00 all in...

Hope you understand more about this now ?

Maybe some of the others on here can also explain better about this ?

If you don't want eBay to automatically send offers on the item after you've sent your initial offer to your watchers, then don't check the box that says you want eBay to automatically send offers on the item.

superchallenge_0-1725261189813.png
I've sent out offers to watchers relatively regularly over the past year, and have never had an issue with offers being sent automatically.

Also, people making counter-offers to your initial sent offer can be prevented by leaving the "Allow Counter-Offers" box unchecked.

Tough concepts, I know.

Problem is I've read sometimes eBay automatically ticks that box and then sends out offers randomlly ! because you sent out 1 offer manually - eBay then automatically assumes that you're OK with them sending offers all the time and overrides your chosen settings not to send offers/receive counter offers.

This shouldn't happen but it does.

I have ALL  offers turned off.

Yet when i list an item under auction format i am also being informed that Ebay may send out offers for this item that i can either accept or decline.   As i say i have not agreed to any offers being sent whatsoever.

it appears Ebay are doing whatever they want in relation to listings whether thats auction or BIn format.

Exactly.

I do not like this, nor feel comfortable with eBay sending every Tom, 0ick & Harry offers willy nilly ! - Some of these offers could be sent to buyers over seas where I don't post to or even worse blocked buyers who caused problems in the past !!!

When you tick the box that says "DO NOT SEND OFFERS ON MY BEHALF" - eBay should RESPECT this and NOT send offers behind our backs just because we used the "send offers" service to send ONE OFFER ONLY on a chosen item - NOT EVERY ITEM !
