Is it true that the first maximum bid of at least the reserve immediately moves the price up to the reserve? I've been trying to find this out in eBay Help, but the information doesn't seem to be there. If so, it strikes me as very unfair, since it may be that no other bid is anywhere near, and you should only be committed to one increment over the next highest bid, as normal; if that doesn't win, so be it. The only way to avoid the trap that I can think of (unless you have been told the reserve, of course) is to bid repeated small increases for as long as you want, which is a bore. ... View more

Why are Ebay not interested in removing the listing for the blatantly fake hard drives?   Bought a 1TB USB drive delivered for £31. Was confident it would be a fake but figured I'd try anyway.   As suspected, it's fake. Looks to be hacked firmware incorrectly reporting size. Disk seems to be around 74GB total, try to write a single bit over and you'll get I/O errors.   ebay is absolutely flooded with these listings, do Ebay not care? I had a card left by my postman saying I had a parcel waiting to be delivered but I had to pay a "Customs Charge". This amounted to £8.80. I wasn't sure what item I had ordered that this charge was related to...so I payed by PayPal, and was surprised when it was delivered to realise it was something I had ordered from the Channel Islands (an item that only cost £3.95)  Is this right? And why has this only happened to me for an item from the Channel Islands when previously I have ordered stuff from Hong Kong/Australia/USA.etc with no Customs Surcharges?  I'm baffled! ... I bought a set of outdoor Christmas lights which should have come with a transformer. There was no transformer and the item has a european 2-pin plug. I asked the seller to send me the transformer. He told me to just plug it in a UK 3pin socket!  I asked an electrician who said NO!! It's not safe. He also told me the lights are not waterproof and therefore can't be used outdoors.   I have asked for a full refund using the Ebay complaints procedure.  The default seems to be for me to return the item to the seller before I get the refund.  I told the seller I would be sending the lights to Trading Standards as he is selling an unsafe product. I dont want to return it to him because he'll just resell it to someone else and put them at risk. I've received an email to print a returns label if I ignore it will I still get my refund?  Or should I just print the label (to satisy Ebay's automated system) but not return the lights?   How do Ebay deal with unscrupulous sellers? ... What on earth is all this rubbish which is now appearing on address labels? More to the point, why is it in the middle of the address?   A relatively new seller asked me to confirm my address because he could not make sense of the one ebay had provided - with all this drivel in the middle, of course. Small wonder he was baffled!   It's surprising there are not more problems with the Royal Mail's scanners - if ebay must put this junk in the address, why not put it at the end, not in the middle? ... hi ,end of august i purchased a new motorcycle battery with a years warranty, i recently put it to use but it has failed, the company asked for pictures and readings of voltage etc and said ok what do you want to do, so i asked for a replacement , they then said they havnt got one, any battrery that would fit they dont have in stock , so i asked for a refund , this was refused and they offered credit, i need a new battery and without my money back i cant buy one from elsewhere, surely if it has a years warranty and they cant replace it i should get my money back , help please ... Hi,   Last week I received a package that should have been a Macbook. When opended its content was replaced with an office paper. Straigt away I filed a wrong item sent and sent the seller a message and photos.  He is, understandably, trying to resolve it with the Packling (Hermes). Tomorrow could the Ebay get involved and I just received this message from the seller:  Thank you for your email. I understand the rules very well. I have been on the phone to eBay today, and they will put this case on hold tomorrow until Packlink responds. I will be proceeding as I have described in my earlier email messages: - Packlink investigation - eBay investigation - Raise a case with the police I have been told by eBay to await the outcome of the Packlink investigation before doing anything further. Hi I purchased an item and it never arrived. The seller ignored all messages and requests for a refund. I opened a case with Ebay, but they just kept telling me to contact the seller ....which I kept doing ! Now they have closed the case because there 'has been no activity for 21 days' ...but that's not surprising if the seller doesn't respond ! Ebay also said the transaction wasn't protected by their buyers policy ....why would that be ?? I am an honest buyer with 100% feedback ....why should I lose my money because a seller just takes my money, doesn't send the item and then refuses to answer emails/messages ....and Ebay do nothing about it !     It's not the item or the cost that worries me ..it's the principle that someone can get away with this and Ebay do not protect the buyer.
