Just tried opening the app on my android phone and get the message "this version is no longer supported. Please update to the latest version". Pressing the "update" goes to Google play but the only options are "Uninstall" or "Open" - no option to update. Pressing "Cancel" closes the app.
I suspect they pushed a new version of the app to deal with the changes introduced overnight but something has gone wrong somewhere.
Anyone else got this issue?

Perhaps the thing I find most annoying about this is that eBay (like all organisations) hoover up a vast amount of information about their users from cookies, web analytics and other sources including the app.
When I worked for a Govt department one of my tasks was extracting use browser information from the web site logs to work out what people were using. We knew exactly how many users were using which operating systems, browser, browser version etc combination. We had a policy to ensure any platform with more than x% (can't recall the exact figure) of the total monthly traffic was supported when updates and upgrades were made.
I would be very surprised if eBay don't have teams of analysts pouring over every last bit of data from our browser and app traffic. I'd be willing to bet they knew exactly how many people were using each version of Android and iOS and hence how many people would be impacted by the new version of app.
As a Govt department we had to support a large range of platforms including "old & obsolete" ones to ensure citizens had access to the website and information. For organisations like eBay it is more a commercial decision - what's the cost continuing to support old versions vs the cost of annoying and possibly losing some customers.

4 times I have tried and 4 times the app has failed. One less buyer and seller for ebay. Not all of us have the latest tech and laptops😡

Yes, I've got the same issue. Suspected there was some sort of scam so deleted the app. Ebay still works from the Internet without issue

This is a long thread so you may not have seen the announcement made by a Community Manager a few days ago regarding app users, see here:
The latest eBay app version is no longer compatible with android 9 and below. It actually requires OS android 10 and above. If you have another device with android 10 and above you can check the most recently updated eBay app version and see if you can view images.
If you are using OS android 10 and above and still have issues with viewing images on the app please let me know. State what version you use and type of device and I'll have it looked into further by tech.

Good old fleabay
Everyone with less than Android 10 have to buy new phones.....What next need new PCs
The following is the statement given to me today:
to ensure that you are using the latest version of eBay, we require you to update your app version and for updating the app as per the latest update you need minimum Android 10 in your device. It is just done to ensure the security and privacy of the eBay account. If this does not work, you may need to upgrade your OS/Android version and In the meantime, you can also access ebay.co.uk via your desktop or mobile web browser.

The simple fix is to open your phone browser and go to www.ebay.co.uk/ and sign in
Everything you need is there online
You just won't be able to use the app from now on
