The truth of the matter

At approx 5pm this afternoon, the Port of Calais was stormed / invaded by between 70 to 80 migrants. They ran riot throughout the Docks, overwhelming all border force and Port Staff. Some tried to forcibly board ferries that were in the Port at the time, the Captains ordered the Ferry's Hoses to be used to repel the migrants ( this was done successfully ). They also stormed scores of Lorries, hiding in many of them. No french Police were present, except for the handful present on Duty at the Docks; reinforcements arrived too late to do anything. Three lorries were found to contain migrants and were searched ( confirming this fact ). When this is done, the other Lorries have to be waived through, otherwise Ferry sailing are delayed...........therefore, at least 65 Lorries were loaded on the Ferry(s) without being searched ( how many migrants are on those, is anybodies guess ). Contrary to reports, there are between 5000 to 7000 migrants in Calais, waiting with the sole intention of getting into this Country. When they are caught, stowed away on Lorries, they are simply removed by the French Police; taken down the Road and released again. The French are content ( so it would seem ) to just let them stay there, growing in number day by day. This is just to let you know the truth of the matter and it is getting worse each and every day. This is the Europe ( the Friends ) that we are told we are better off being a part of, one for all and all for one; helping each other.........Partners ( I think that's the terminology used ).

That's close cee-dee, but they didn't mention the Ships hoses being turned on and they are seriously understating the number of migrants; that have all but taken over Calais ( for obvious reasons I guess ).

and I'm just being pragmatic here, but as they have got this far undetected and are being released each time; so they can try again over and over to get in here, all it needs is ONE..........just ONE to be infected with the Ebola virus..........never mind the terrorist side of things. Although most are from East Africa, there are some also from West Africa and an ever growing number from Iraq ,Afghanistan and Syria.

"an ever growing number from Iraq ,Afghanistan and Syria". You can also add Libya to that list,I wonder what possible connection those 4 countries could have?

The truth of the matter

The clue lies in the link I posted above and the relevant bit (which I've highlighted in red) is:-

"The mayor took issue with British immigration policy which, she complained, is "considered as an Eldorado" by immigrants who have again flooded into the northern port over the summer."

I think most of us at some point have said the same, but my question would be surely they wouldn't be trying to storm the ports if France prevented them from entering France in the first place , or am I missing something?

The truth of the matter

The French authorities cannot prevent these poor people from entering their country. Once they reach Europe, via Italy or Greece or any European country they can go anywhere in Europe. It's an EU problem, and it seems to me that the only way to prevent it is to scrap the 'free movement between member states', and bring back border controls. If they are 'Asylum seekers' they should claim asylum at the first country they reach. But unfortunately the only place they want to go to is the UK. I feel very sad for them when I see them on TV, but we cannot save the world.....we are at crisis point ourselves, I think.

The truth of the matter

Well it  was Tony Blair (1997 to 2010) who was using immigration to turn Britain into a nation of Labour voters. The unprecedentedly fast rate of immigration. Yet for many decades we have had on average more than 2 million unemployed. Was Tony's idea to have them work to keep that average of unemployed up? Or was it to keep him and his cohorts in power? I wonder ...(not).  At least 3 million came in. Some think a lot more than that.

So...we cant blame all the immigrants. (and I have a lot of sympathy for some) but we certainly can blame some. A few years ago, the French immigration service and police raided one of these camps and offered them all the chance of French citizenship's. To a man they turned it down because they wanted to come to the UK! Desperate asylum seekers? I don't think so.

Well it seems nearly all them are young men. So what is happening to their old, sick and vulnerable? Are they back home fending for themselves?  And how on earth will this ever end if so many of these countries young men are here? So many of us suffered appallingly during and after the wars but I don't think we ever run away. No, I think enough is enough, and we should help these countries (at these countries) as we and other countries are already doing.

As we hear that Home Office officials lost track of 50,000 illegal immigrants. And complacent Home Office loses 175,000 illegal immigrants missing after they were refused permission to stay. Well someone has to get a grip of this. Obviously not our politicians is it?  What the hell do we pay them for? They tell us that they have b..ls.d it up but we rarely seem to see heads roll?

The truth of the matter

Not sure what time line this 'story' relates to, but the French were reported to have bulldozed and cleared some camps there earlier this year and some riots took place as a result, shortly after the euro elections, surprise surprise.

El Dorado? - lol

According to 2013 eurostat figures re non EU applications for asylum to member states

Italy had a similar number of non EU applicants as the UK

France had over twice the number of applicants as the UK Smiley Surprised

Sweden almost twice as many applicants as the UK

Hungary about 2/3rds the number of applicants, about the same as Austria

Germany, had over 4 times, the number of applicants than the UK  Smiley Surprised Smiley Surprised

Seems so-called 'el dorados' are fairly common, France having over twice the el dorado appeal
of the UK, but yet the impression given by some is everyone wants to come to the UK -how odd
where in fact the applications for the  UK are less than it's main equiv partners

but I guess it keeps a few expats ( ironic ) and kippers etc gastric juices flowing

Perhaps Farage can donate a few pounds from the millions in unaudited expenses he says he's claimed from the EU
Might have to wait a while for that.

The truth of the matter

If you want "The truth of the matter" You have to go to the root causes of immigration worldwide,War,poverty, lack of opportunity, etc,

We in the rich western world have the food and resources to feed the world, but we would sooner let it rot in the ground than give it away and feed starving people,or we give them a loan, which we know they can never pay back,so we aquire their resources,Yes cheer the boys on bombing Afghanistan,Iraq,Libya and perhaps Syria next, than wonder why they flee abroad to Eldorado Smiley LOL and why some of them dislike us

The truth of the matter

I merely relayed a story, before it broke on the news, about the Port of Calais being stormed by migrants and that those migrant specifically wanted to come here, draw from that what you will. As far as the Countries mentioned are concerned, one should remember that:

Italy..........Has less than a half of the population density per square KM than we do.

France........Just over one quarter of the population density per square KM than we do.

Sweden...........less than one twentieth of the population density per square KM than we do.

Hungary..........Just over one quarter of the population density per square KM than we do.

Germany..........Just over a half of the population density per square KM than we do.

I am of course talking about England specifically, as most who get through Dover are unlikely to find their way to Scotland or Wales. As they all have to be fitted in somewhere and require the same infrastructure as the rest of us ( Schools, Hospitals, Houses, etc.etc. ) I think the population density figures are somewhat important. If there is any dispute of the figures, please do check them yourself.

The truth of the matter

More important than population density is overall population - the larger the population the larger the existing infrastructure and the less strain a fixed number of additional people will put on that infrastructure.

Sweden has a population of less than 10 million but double the number of asylum applicants - 12 times as many applicants per person than in the UK.

Italy a similar population as the UK and a similar number of applicants

France, a similar population to the UK but double the applicants

Hungary, just two thirds the number of applicants but only one sixth the population - 4 times as many applicants per member of the population.

Germany 80 million population but 4 times as many applicants

Netherlands just half as many applicants but only a third of the population . . . . .

. . . . . . and so the list goes on.

None of this diminishes the problem the rich West faces over immigration and asylum requests but does put into perspective the 'problems' faced by the UK and illustrates that we are not unique in having to find a solution.

I disagree I'm afraid, practically all major Infrastructure projects take place near or in densely populated areas ( Cities & Towns ). ALL major teaching Hospitals are in Cities, with the main two......Kings & St. George's being in London. The biggest schools are also in, or near, major Towns or Cities. I really can't see immigrants heading for the Highlands or Lowlands of Scotland, or the Mountains or Valleys of Wales. That then being the Case, they will swell the already overloaded demand on the Infrastructure of our most densely populated areas. Areas, may I add, where the cost of property is at a premium and the space to expand is restricted. That's the reality of where they will end up and as I previously showed, the areas considerably more populated than other EU Countries. I'm sure provincial Doctors surgeries, in the rural areas of Scotland and Wales, probably do have vacancies for more patients.......but that won't be where they will be going.

Such immigration is certainly an issue but I wouldn't suggest we are in crisis!!!

The only way it affects most people is by seeing it on the TV or in the newspapers. People see reporting on the 'Immigration Crisis' threatening the UK and they spit their dummies out. But who has actually been impacted by this other than have to suffer **bleep** reporting in the media?!

The truth of the matter

Lambsy....look around you. Maybe you don't see any signs of crisis where you live. The bigger cities are in crisis, with too many people living in them. And when they are overflowing the excess population will be moved to more rural and poorer areas. I am looking at possible problems in the future. All these people have to be housed, schooled, taken care of healthwise....to say nothing of jobs for them. We are storing up problems for our future generations. Larger families are the norm for some of these people, and they will all have to be taken care of. And my opinions are not based on what I see on TV, or read in newspapers, they are based on what I see with my own eyes. Please do not assume that people who have concerns about immigration and it's consequences are all right wing reactionaries who are just 'spitting out their dummies'. Some of us are actually well educated people who are able to work things out for ourselves, and form our own opinions based on what we actually see and experience.
