The role of an MP is to.......?

Currently, it appears that the MPs seem to think that their role at Westminster is to promote their own viewpoint?

The role of an MP is supposed to be that of a person representing the view of their constituents but how many actually seek out the view/opinion of their constituents on current affairs?

If an MP actively sought the views of constituents and found that their overwhelming opinion was for one particular course of action which was directly opposed to their own opinion, which way should they vote if it comes to that?

Do they consider "I know what's best for them" or do they vote along with the preference of their constituents?

It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.

Re: The role of an MP is to.......?

Al...that is just an opinion. It could well be that leaving the EU , even without a deal, would be in the country's best interests. We wouldn't know, unless we tried. 'In the country's best interests' can be used as an excuse for all sorts of calumny, as we are seeing on a daily basis now.

To be fair the government has never denied this is the case - what is missing in that statement is that body bags are just one of many other medical supplies and medicines that are being stockpiled as the current suppliers are all based in EU countries.

Re: The role of an MP is to.......?

It is PLAIN to everyone but the Rabid Brexiters, that this will be a major Disaster for this Country

It started with it being a 2/3yr transition period, then it was 5yrs to 8 to 10

Then the Brexiters STOPPED saying How long the Transition' period

(cute word for a deeper recession) would be all together

So Brexit for at least 10yrs, will hammer this Country financially

We may emerge as the New Singapore

Drones working for their rich slave master for  a pittance

Turning into some offshore Tax leper - with little Tax, but No services etc

That is Bonzo and The faceless  pro-Brexitbloodsuckers behind Hims plan

Low regulation, low tax, low wage  Island off the European coast

--------------------------

I hope all those people across Working Class areas who Voted with these 'Immigrant Stock'

Because 'England' ain't England anymore - remember the warnings You were given

Javid - Indian Sub-continent

Nigel Farage - French Huguenots - isn't He

and of course, the Chief mongrel Himself -

Boris Johnson -- Has more different areas of Ancestry across the EAST,

they seem to have stayed in more Countries than Genghis Khan

He even talked about, 2 Days ago about His Muslim and Sikh ancestors

But Mugs are voting for them because of the 'amount of Immigrants' ??????

Re: The role of an MP is to.......?

Al, freedom of movement has its positives and its negatives, on the one hand it can drive down wages on the other it can lead to foreign practices becoming the norm in our countries, I am not talking about different cuisines but am aware of the impact of as an example Romanian gangs in London taking advantage of our love of technology, by nicking it in the open to send back home, and of course those who claim benefits here to use at home where they cannot get the same level of support. Also the demands of immigrants to enter the EU and then to be free to come here, is worrying when we cannot house our own citizens. Call me a racist for that but I Am at least honest, I do not want the current housing boom to become the norm, I would love to see protection for our green spaces which was not reversible, I am also opposed to halal and kosher killing of animals which for me is obscene, likewise I am not a fan of traditional dress being the norm in our schools, how come you cannot have tinted glass in your front windows but you can wear a burka and that any criticism is again seen as racist! The problem with the EU is that they are able to impose laws upon us which rightly or wrongly we do not want or at least some of us, and not just gammons! But whatever happens our politicians have handled the whole thing very badly, preferring to pontificate and go against the will of the people in order to say that they are saving us all?
Really? So much scaremongering, who knows what is true anymore?

Re: The role of an MP is to.......?

In my opinion, while voted into Parliament is to line their own pockets as much as they can, have as easy life as possible, not listen to anything their constituents want but do and vote on anything they themselves want that will benefit them, have as many subsidised meals and drinks as possible, a flat in London paid for by the people and sold on when they are voted out and the money pocketed by them and claim as much in expenses as possible for anything they can rather than use their wages like normal people must do when wanting something.

If I have missed anything I do apololgise but it can be debated and raised at the next meeting.

Re: The role of an MP is to.......?

Taking up your point DC, you might have expected MPs to be subjected to austerity in the same way as the rest of us, so why do they continue to subsidise their very existence so much and vote themselves inflation busting pay rises. Could it possibly be because they can?

Re: The role of an MP is to.......?

You seem to have an issue with immigrants, that is so sad in this day and age.

People voted to leave for a myriad of reasons, one being one of the leaders of the remain campaign openly saying wages would have to rise if we voted to leave.
