Dutch auction - ever attended one?

Has anybody here ever taken part in an official Dutch auction?  It strikes me as VERY difficult to get right, because unlike a conventional auction where bids are progressively increased, with a Dutch auction it goes the other way, and you wind up kicking yourself once  it goes because that's it.  It must be very difficult to get it right because you then wonder whether you could have got it for £10.00 less.  I've never seen one advertised.

Anybody tried it?

Not one of these shopping channels, is it?  I watched one for a while and it was really hard sell, ram it down your throat type of thing.  No name dropping - it's not allowed, but it kept stressing how "Quality" was the byword.  All new stuff and terribly Americanised.
