Douglas Carswell's defection to Ukip.

The Clacton MP's decision to join Nigel Farage is like the rest of his career, principled and decent writes Peter Oborne - Daily Telegraph's chief political commentator.

Well it certainly makes for some exitement at last...as the Tory whips scramble to secure party against further departures after the Eurosceptic MP triggers Clacton  byelection.

And he is honourable and decent enough to deflect on principle.

Eight Tory MP's are reported to be talking to Ukip about deflection?  (we will see) ..... Smiley LOL

Don't start doing the usual political nonsense and start putting two and two together and coming up with five.
I don't hold his views or any other extreme right politicians views.

If anyone is coming up with 5 it has to be you judging by the above!

I never suggested you held any views one way or the other - my argument with you has been over the rights or wrongs of UKIP forming an alliance with the likes of Mr Iwaszkiewicz.

You don't appear to see much wrong with it and have tried to justify it on the grounds that it's no worse than what other political parties and politicians have done - nothing to do with either mine or your personal political views.

No bandwagon, unless yours.I thought it was an amusing comment

As for Farrage's bid to save his EU group funding, it's quite gross.

That's the exact point made throughout this thread! Perhaps if you took your own advice you wouldn't find yourself in the position of defending the indefensible.

Considering UKIP have previously allied themselves with the Swedish Democrats, The Northern League, and The Danish People's Party, their latest Hitler-licking bedfellow come as no surprise whatsoever.

Except in this case, the KNP don't seem to think "democrasy" should to extend to women.  Reducing the right to vote is a a view that's shared by a few ukip candidates too:

I listened to Mr Farage on Radio 4 an hour or so ago and at least he didn't try to justify the views held by Mr Iwaszkiewicz - quite the contrary, he claimed never to have met him or even spoken to him and that he would not make an alliance with anyone who held the views such as those being reported about Mr Iwaszkiewicz.  Time will tell which is of the greater importance, the money or Mr Farage's moral stance.

I don't believe him for one moment. I think NF (appropriate initials eh) knew exactly who he was getting into bed with. Hence the Kipper spin doctors promoting that cringeworthy “UKIP calypso” in the hope that it would distract from the more sinister news that was to emerge later in the day.

Interesting links there?

From the link: "Mr Korwin-Mikke said in June that French National Front leader Marine Le Pen had judged his party "too extreme" to be an ally in Europe."

Says it all.

And if having the Fash as European partners wasn't enough, UKIP are now getting cosy with Britain First:.

Jake Yapp (@JakeYapp) responds to UKIP’s attempt to storm the singles chart — which was pulled by Farage-loving ex-Radio 1 DJ Mike Read this week when he finally realised that singing about immigrants in a mock Caribbean accent might be in poor taste.

Funny and a better song, too.

Re: Douglas Carswell's defection to Ukip.

Quality!  Although the "furore" around Calypsogate, yes it could be technically deemed as 'racist', but it was pretty diet coke compared to some of the other stuff that goes on in the Kipperdrome.

I think this was the plan - publicise the song, await for the outcry from the "PC brigade", bury the news about the alliance with the KNP Nutzis whilst Mike Read takes centre stage, who then withdraws the song, plays the victim, & then waits for Farage to claim that it was all the fault of "PC brigade".

Only *after* it was pulled was it mentioned that a share of the profits would have been going to the Red Cross to help fight Ebola, and make out that because of the "PC brigade" (such as "lefty" conservative MPs), then people in Africa will now die as a result, and it's all the fault of "lefties".

Result -  As usual UKIP coat themselves in bogus victimhood surrounding the whole affair, and in the process gain a shedload of *good* (compared to KNP alliance) publicity as a result.

It's a strange world when I find myself agreeing with Dan Hodges!

"People are waking up to the fact there is something that isn’t quite right about Farage and his people’s army. Yesterday, in the wake of the Mike Read “Calypso” row, Ukip announced that the money that had been raised by the single would be given to the Red Cross. The Red Cross, understandably, said they couldn’t accept a donation from a political party in that manner. They added that was especially true given that the single criticised migrants, and they are a charity that works with refugees and asylum seekers.

Most political parties would have left it there. Not the zealots of Ukip. Their officials and supporters began queueing up to attack the Red Cross. They had a Labour supporter on the board. They were funded by the EU. It was all a great conspiracy.

You can’t do that. The British Red Cross was set up by Royal Charter by Edward VII. Their inspiration was Florence Nightingale. The Red Cross were there at Spion Kop. The Somme. Normandy. They are a real people’s army, not a self-styled one.

You can’t attack organisations like the Red Cross, and expect the British people to embrace you. Well, you can. But it won’t get you very far. Yes, it may get Farage as far as Rochester. Ukip remain a useful means of expressing displeasure at a range of issues, from the state of the economy to funding of the NHS to legitimate concerns about immigration.

But it won’t get him much further. The electorate are on to Ukip now. They have the new nasty party pegged.

Most of our politicians may cower when Farage swaggers in to view. The British people will not."

Re: Douglas Carswell's defection to Ukip.

Ironic that Farage lost to a candidate who defected from UKIP to the Conservatives - still some comfort for UKIP supporters, Carswell hung on to his seat.  Albeit with a lower vote and a slashed majority.

Re: Douglas Carswell's defection to Ukip.

It's been a great result for the UK all things considered; we can now look forward to five more years of back pedalling, a failing health service not to mention an already over burdened population increase.  And all public sector workers can rest easy in the knowledge their pensions will be further crippled whilst council budgets are slashed to ribbons.  Truly a great day for Britain.
