The Clacton MP's decision to join Nigel Farage is like the rest of his career, principled and decent writes Peter Oborne - Daily Telegraph's chief political commentator.
Well it certainly makes for some exitement at last...as the Tory whips scramble to secure party against further departures after the Eurosceptic MP triggers Clacton byelection.
And he is honourable and decent enough to deflect on principle.
Eight Tory MP's are reported to be talking to Ukip about deflection? (we will see) .....

The general election next year should end up with the following results
Labour Party ..nil points (should never ever ever be allowed near money that doesn't belong to them again ever ever or make a decision about anything that involves thought on any level).
Liberal Party ..nil points (what a complete and utter waste of a voice)
Ukip ..1 point (purely for being in the right place at the right time and having some toffs as mates)
Conserative party 99 points (if they get rid of IDS,Thatcherism,Boris as anything but a mascot,The media pals ,the banker pals, the royal pals and any other pals they may have aquired at the golf club.
or..
Nil points for being a bit hitlerish ,control freakyish and totally clueless of anything apart from above ^^
Green Party ..nil points (no policies)
Monarchy return party..100 points or off with your heads.
Ps who is Douglas Carswell

Really?

They're the only "anti-establishment" Party left. Plus they're the only party fully opposing TTIP. What with TTIP being an EU-US project you'd think UKIP would oppose it. Funnily enough, they're very quiet about it.

Broken promises and misleading statements coming from politicians shouldn't really surprise anyone - what surprises me is the number of people willing to excuse such behaviour.
Nothing makes me think you were taken by surprise, you said you were not gullible and I said in that case you won't have been surprised.
I don't excuse it but I do understand it.

You're kidding me! You claim some article about the verbs and phrases used is evidence of lying! BTW, this has nothing to do with pre-election pronmises or manifestis!

Nope. The lie was so good he told it twice. Prompting a rebuke from the Statistics Authority.
On another note, "The Farage Factor" was interesting viewing:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04lxvrd/panorama-the-farage-factor
Considering UKIP's "creative accounting" with expenses and the fact that Farage (a former commodities trader), Carswell (a former Investment Broker), and Reckless (a former Swiss banker) are all ex-Tories, you have to wonder how long this "anti-establishment" facade will hold-up? No-one can be *that* thick.

I watched that programme last night......a real hatchet job by the extremely left-biased BBC. I wonder will we be seeing similar programmes about Cameron,Miliband,Clegg, and their secret dealings? I think not. From now until the election we will be seeing many more of these attempts to discredit MrFarage, while the other three will be painted as nice saintly creatures with no skeletons in their cupboards.
The same BBC that has given almost 24/7 unopposing coverage to Farage?
Like it or not, a public service broadcaster has a duty to report "in the public interest". I think the public have a right to be informed. Every party faces "hatchet jobs", if Ed Miliband eating a bacon sandwich & headlines of where his Dad is buried are all they've got then they should perhaps dig deeper?
It appears UKIP and their supporters cannot take scrutiny or criticism - I'm afraid they'd better get used to it now they're well & truly part of "The Establishment".

The claim was that he was lying when he said we were paying down the debt; then the articles go on to question what was meant by that unusual turn of phrase. They claim they are lies, other may claim otherwise.

Let's stick then to that infamous phrase, "being economical with the truth"
It's not just David Cameron either, there must be very few politicians who when faced with the choice between prevaricating and losing votes will choose being open and honest rather than prevarication.

the next bit is 'three four we don't do that anymore'... of course 🙂
Joe has it right again ie choice..there isn't one within the media promoted goons.

I think we've now reached critical mass:
“Clacton resident told TV reporters: ‘Yes, I voted UKIP. The Tory MP has done nothing for years.’”

If it wasn't so serious it could be a Ben Elton sketch, pmsl
Apathy knows no bounds in the UK it seems ,right up the street of every goon MP and the goon loving followers,''they're all half wits, hoorah,we can get away with anything''they cheered.Even the godmother of destroy Britain Baroness MT's picture seemed to smile a knowing smile.
