UK's EU Bill Up 20%

"Britain's contribution to the EU rises by 20 per cent in a year, as the UK's booming economy props up the EU budget...

An “eye-popping” £15.5 billion was sent across the Channel in the year ending March 31, compared with £12.9 billion the year before - an increase of 20 per cent.

The extra money would be enough to put 50,000 more police officers on the streets, or fund 81,000 social care beds.

Brexiteers said the increase was yet more evidence that Britain must leave the EU as soon as possible to stop taxpayers’ money “pouring into the bottomless EU coffers”...

Read the whole thing please. Don't miss the whole benefits of the boost to trade, jobs and investment. The boost to GDP is quite something ,maybe around 50 billion. This all goes if we leave.

Also this one is worth a look.

That argument doesn’t really hold up.  You are comparing two different things.

Comparing like with like there will be some countries in the EU that will have a trade surplus with the UK and others with a deficit.  Trade decisions have to be ratified by all EU members which is why the trade agreements that the EU does have, have each taken years to come into force.

Can the UK really afford to have trade with the EU disrupted whilst an agreement is concluded?

"Twenty-five years ago I felt that the political establishment in Britain and the whole of Europe had got things wrong. In 1945 there was a post-war settlement and reconciliation... you start to trade with each other, and become neighbours again...all of that made sense...

"But what I began to see in the late 1980's was that this idea of close co-operation was actually morphing into something else - that rather than being a co-operative structure it was actually becoming an entity in its own right, a State in its own right, the European Superstate that they are trying to build. And that this was being done without anybody being asked if they wanted it. It was being imposed upon them, and there was nothing voters could do to change the structure, because the people in power were appointed, not elected.

"So these were the first alarm bells. I thought then, and I think now, that the nation state is the model that actually works - that's the thing that we feel an allegiance to.

All these supra-national structures - whether it's the European Union, whether it's the annual gathering at Davos, whether it's elements of the United Nations in New York - these are all attempts actually to diminish the nation state and what it stands for...

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage and Candace Owens discuss why Brexit and the election of Donald Trump was a revolt against the global political establishment. They also examine the importance of the nation state, capitalism and the 2016 U.S. election. Don't miss this special episode filmed in our

No - I don’t realise that at all - EU Commissioners are appointed by the political parties of the member countries and almost exclusively are members of the same party appointing them - they are political appointees.

UK civil servants above the lowest pay grades can not partake in political activities.

There is a World of difference between the two.

Re: Brexit never gonnae happen they way you think!

I wasn't talking about wee jeanie the tea/boy girl , lady or boy.The political parties in EU select their appointee's like the UK parties appoint their civil servants. Ie Attorney General for example - a tory. The shadow one - a corbynite  etc.

So its all trash that the brexiteers are saying that EU commissioners are unelected  eurocrats is nonsense, their appointed to do a job ,so appointed is the more appropriate term but non the less - much the same. Commisioneers/ civil servants(much the same thing) Don't see what the issues are with that -their not Members running for parliament and elected directly by the people albeit.

They ain't going to give we Jeanie from doon the gorbals the job of brexit negotiator. Though i think wee Jeanie should have got the job on UK side as they had three of them and still couldn't get it done.

Farage and his cronies are elected by the people as MEP's and do nothing!

So aye, a world of difference.

I gave a poor example there really on Attorney Gen as he's an MP.sorry.

What I was trying to say is commissioners do the same work as civil servants do here, employees of governments and parliaments. They are commissioned to do a job their asked. They have absolutely no decision making powers - they carry out the day to day work of the EU and the elected EU members MEPs make the decisions. Farage is an elected MEP in England and does nowt- lazy lazy layabout  him and his cronies.
