new messaging experience

Just found out to my horror eBay's so-called 'improved' messaging experience. It's typical of eBay to do something like this without asking people because I certainly wasn't asked. I've always believed eBay was an online retail dictatorship and this serves to reinforce that belief.

Many are coming to report their dislike of the new format you are not alone.

At the bottom right corner of my messaging page is a feedback link,  leave some feedback,  to describe your thoughts.

You just never know,  if Everyone did this,  eBay may,  just may take note . 🤔

I'm not sure you can revert back.

Are you sure the messages are not being sent?  With this new system if you answer a message it attaches itself to the received message and at first  may not look like a reply has been made,  you need to scroll down the message to see your reply.  I agree not ideal.

they have been ab testing it for some time.

I too have seen a lot of people come on and complain that messaging has changed. But no-one seem to state any actual reasons why they don't like it. It having just changed isn't in itself bad. People often don't like change, which is valid - but feedback that is just 'i preferred how it was' certainly won't help ebay!

Personally, I like it (if its indeed the system that makes it look more like a whatsapp/ messenger chat). Its far easier to follow messages back and forth than it sitting in separate messages

Sent messsages also show up in inbox? So confusing! Also the platofrm is very slow.

Sent messages show up in " inbox" ... it is confusing and not user friendly especially for those with some form of disabilities - no option to switch back...I have given up today!

Sure, here is some..

1. It doesn't show which messages have been replied to, a bit of a problem when you deal with high volume of messages. You have to click each individual one to see if it was replied to.

2. You have to click a tick box to be able to archive/mark as unread etc. Why? The message is already open.

3. There is no indication that the person messaging you has or hasn't bought from you. No link to an order ID if they have done. I suppose you just guess based on their message?

It seriously feels like something that was made by a company just starting out with basic features, not Ebay.

Much bettter - constructive feedback! I've just always hated 'this has changed and its rubbish responses'

And they do make sense.

I'd say that the sent messages appearing in inbox - that's not strictly true - its just ebay have converted to a 'messenger chat' style format, similar to whatsapp, facebook etc. There is a Sent folder on the left though

1. I think that unread messages show as bold-  though once you click a message/chat, it removes this bold element.

2. Yeah - a simple archive button on open messages makes sense

3. Also agree - we just lookup the username in our marketplaces integrator (we use Rithum) but agree it would be better to show links to an order like Amazon do.

Personally - still thing its an improvement in most cases. Its faster, and I always used to hate how all messages seemed separate whereas now you see much more of a historical chat with the buyer.

Yeah, point 1 doesn't work, as bold just means read/unread.

Previously you'd have an arrow that showed the message had been replied to.

i've lost messages i flagged as a way of saving messages to get back to buyers when items are due back in stock etc...this is useless ebay and no doubt we will be getting negative feedbacks for messages we perhaps didn't see or thought replied to but didn't.

I have just replied to a message in the new format.

When you are typing there is no word wrap at the end of the line, so words are being split leaving part of the word on one line and the end of the word on the next line. It is not very proffesional and it is very annoying, such a basic thing, every word processor has this.  When I used to use a typwriter we either started a new line or at least put a hyphen in.   But the programmers are still in primary school and do not understand what is correct, I hope someone teaches them

They won't take any notice whatsoever. They make changes for the sake of making changes and every time it is worse than what they replaced but they couldn't care less. I have been selling professionally on eBay for over 20 years and used to absolutely love it and now I absolutely hate it. I have even told them this but they are completely uninterested, they never listen to anyone!!

You joined in 2015 and have 88 sales so your views are not really valid as it is clear you don't have much experience of regularly using eBay.

I don't like the new messaging system because visually sections are too squashed together and it's unnecessarily visually cluttered. I've "lost" incoming messages including an invoice, and only found them by "digging" or by going to my Basket to pay anyway and finding the postage had been reduced. I'm not used to a method where messages "attach" to each other.

eBay imposed the new system without warning, without explaining how the new system works, and apparently without allowing people to reinstate the previous layout.

I've left feedback for eBay. I hope eBay will listen to unhappy customers, but I do wonder if eBay's in-tray for it is a shredder given eBay's response to unhappy customers about more important things like private sellers or estimated delivery dates.

For those who do not use or are not familiar with Whatsapp or Facebook, it is an issue, also the words wrap around - personally I do not like it.  For those with eye issues - it is not user friendly.

I think this new messaging system is awful for sellers with a high volume of sales, as it generally means you will have more messages from customers and potential customers.

We use a folder system, so messages related to different things will go into their matching folder. When customers reply to a message, "conversation". it no longer shows as an unread message. It also stays in the folder and doesn't go into the inbox as they use to.

Messages not being attached to the order that they are messaging about makes things very difficult when a customer is making multiple purchases a day, having to ask a customer for the order number to help you out isn't a good look. (This matters mainly when buyers of auctions are winning similar items but for different amounts.)

For sellers that have a small volume of sales and customers, this new system will work very well for them. A real headache for the rest of us.

They seem to have sorted the word wrap now.

Is anyone else having trouble with messaging whereby the " actions" ( the little symbols ie delete button etc) are greyed out and there is no " red flag" now to highlight messages... the " ref flag" was extremely useful to me as I used it to mark whatever message I had to monitor... now there seems to be no way of doing that?
