Pardon our interruption...

When I try to login I get this message:

Pardon our interruption...

* As you were browsing eBay, something about your browser made us think you were a bot. There are a few reasons this might happen:

* You're a power user moving through this website with super-human speed.
* You've disabled JavaScript in your web browser.
* A third-party browser plugin, such as Ghostery or NoScript, is preventing JavaScript from running

One of my computers crashed and I had to power it off, at that time I had about 22 ebay tabs open,

when the machine came back up - I restored session (which automatically re-opens all those tabs - very quickly) I think this is what triggers this error message about my (super-human speed).

As a result of the error, I was not allowed to login or get help as you have to login for everything.

I logged in via mobile app OK and one of my computers was still logged in and appeared to be working fine (I have about 5 I use for ebay - depending on where I am).

Two of my computers I get the same message everytime, now maybe the browswer is too old to login, but I was logged in before the crash - but they would have been logged in for many months.

If this error has flagged my account as being a bot or some extraterrestrial being, could you please remove that flag from my account.

Account name: siobhansauction

Thank you - very much

Pardon our interruption...

Hi @siobhansauction, thanks for your post.

eBay takes certain measures to ensure the security of the site and to reduce bot activity. Based on what you are saying, it is the 22 tabs, when restoring the session, that caused the error message. There is no flag on the account regarding this, so nothing to worry about in terms of that.

I can see that eburtonlab has already provided you with some helpful advice. Generally speaking, this is what we recommend to help resolve this message and to help you sign in:

  • Clear cache & cookies, try different browsers, update the browser to the newest version.
  • Ensure you have enabled JavaScript in your web browser.
  • Turn off any third-party browser plugins that may interfere with JavaScript.
  • If you are using VPN, try accessing eBay without the use of a VPN.
  • You may also run an antivirus software on your device to ensure there are no unauthorized third party programs, viruses running behind the scenes.

Thank you,

Anita

Aside from the things mentioned in that message -- superhuman speed, JavaScript being disabled, use of script blockers -- that error can also be the result of using a bad link that causes a redirection loop.

Try another browser to rule out a browser issue, and try another link to sign in, particularly if you are using an old bookmark.

Thank you, I took all the advice and everything was normal on my side, except I use Linux? and as such I dont upgrade my broswer everytime big tech harp on about the end of the world.

I think it's was 22 tabs, but this is a normal function of the browser and that algothym clearly needs more work.

Anyhow, thank you all.

IMO Ebay is the best site on the internet, so thanks.

Pardon our interruption...

I too cannot login to ebay on my Android phone either by using Google login, or my username and password.  I am getting the message:

Pardon our interruption...

The ridiculous thing is that I am using the offical ebay app that I just downloaded from the App Store, so I don't have access to controlling javascript, third party ebay plugins, or doing anything superhumam etc.

Perhaps god is telling me not to bother with ebay any more.

Hi @messy_bar_stud,

Are you using multiple devices by any chance, as we can see successful logins?

Also, just to confirm, is the full error message exactly the same as OP?

Thank you,

Anita

Pardon our interruption...

Hi Anita,

Thanks for your reply.

I am trying to migrate to a new phone.  The only app which is keeping me on the old phone is the ebay app.  You are likely seeing sessions from my old phone, and my Laptop.

Yes, the message in the Android app when attempting to login using either my email/password or my Google Account is the same as the OP.

I don't see how it is possible to alter the Javascript settings in the Android App.  I am starting to think the ebay app is just a web-view.

Kind regards

Hi @messy_bar_stud, thanks for your reply.

It is possible that when logging into the eBay app, you are temporarily being directed to the browser. I would recommend checking if Javascript has been enabled for the default browser on your phone. Go to the Settings > click on the browser you are using > Advanced > see if Javascript is green / enabled.

Thank you,

Anita

Pardon our interruption...

Hi Anita,

Thanks for your patience.

Whilst the app doesn't make any obvious redirect to a browser (being within the ebay app the whole time) I set Chrome as the default web browser in the Android App settings > Three Dots > Default App settings, and tried again.  Then when logging in I was presented with the expected 2FA and it now works fine.

Many thanks!

I have been getting this on my phone app since today & i tried everything i also installed the older version app on me phone but no luck so looks like i won't be on ebay much anymore now as i can only use ebay on my computer desktop. At least one thing if i get any sales and i have gone out for the day and i can't check my phone app as it don't work now, so there could be some late posting but end of the day this won't be my fault it's the dodgy app fault not mine.

Pardon our interruption...

Based on my experience only, it sounds like the "Default App" setting for your Web Browser may have changed.  I had this trouble when Chrome was not the default web browser.  Once I had set Chrome as my default, the Ebay app would let me login.  Only a suggestion.  I am an ebay user not an ebay employee.

If you have tried multiple versions of the app to no avail, and it was working before, then the issue will be a setting on your phone like the one I mentioned.

Make sure you have the latest version of Chrome, if possible, and that that browser is set as the default browser of your device. If the eBay app needs to open a browser window for 2FA, it will open whichever browser is set as your default browser. Sometimes installing new software can also install a new browser and the new browser then becomes the default.

Or try switching your default browser to a different browser such as Firefox; see if that works, then switch back to Chrome.

its amazing the lengths ebay go to stop progress in selling on the mal-functioning platform. You cant trust ebay to help you sell , so we find ways to promote our own items , only to have ebay stop that - Another 25 % reduction to items to sell on this platform .

@pinkrabbitprinces82

Thats just what i got today when loading my listings onto specific groups on FB. Ive developed this route over the years with minimal issues. ebay dont show our products through search anymore, so we do it ourselves, until ebay strike again.

Is it worth the effort ?
