Thanks for your posting, I have some of my listings affected and some not (Coins) . Most of the affected coins are Australian so that complies with your theory , two are however British and I can see no signs of any foreign links , but I am offering international shipping . I have not listed any new coins for a while due to the price being inflated by 20 % by ebay. I have now relisted the Australian coins as English and removed international shipping on all my coins to see if this makes any difference.
So far the prices are holding up, although I did notice that in the past there sometimes was a delay before they were increased by 20%. I was going to change them to auction style, but that seems to show 20% VAT will be added when purchased.

that is exactly what i was thinking and it has been running since 17/08/20222 and still going now.
God knows how many sales have ended with the seller oblivious to what is going on, unless someone tells them they do not know.
on their end everything is all normal

I am in the EU, and list a few items in the art category on another account, as auctions. After Brexit it was a mess for a little while, and some customers were charged 20%, and not the 5% that it should have been. Thankfully this was eventually corrected by eBay.
I now see with this latest glitch that although all my listings are the same type, within the same category, and should be 5% VAT for anyone in the UK, about half of them say 20% will be added and the other half state 5% - it is completely random, and doesn't make any sense at all.

Hi all,
I want to clarify that there are some separate issues here.
The first issue is the one discussed on this thread where listings, particularly the art and coin categories, are showing an additional amount added onto the price set by the seller. This is happening to business sellers also. I'm adding examples to this issue with our technical teams from the impacted accounts mentioned here and on another thread.
Secondly some private sellers are seeing VAT being added to their listings. For example the thread @more-ackers mentioned https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Seller-Central/20-VAT-added-to-my-private-seller-listing/m-p/7273320... discusses this. Dave is going to reply there to keep these issues separate.
These are different issues, unfortunately they both happen to involve VAT. I will update in relation to the first issue here.
Hope this helps to clarify.
Thanks,
Katie

The local people stopped buying. They not sure and don't want to pay extra 20%. Last message I got from local buyer few minutes ago:
I'm interested in this piece but I have noticed this listing mentions a 20% VAT will be added to the final price. I've never seen this before. Please can you explain what this is & why it has been added? I've not had to pay this before.
So finally we loosing clients who want to buy!!!

What evidence do you have that these are different issues?
It is actually more likey that the issues are related and by spliting the issues you are causing confusion.
You now have two tech people/teams working on the, (likely), same basic fault/glitch with each team being starved of some of the information.
Has anyone informed finance???????

Just listed one today, no reason to add more. Same thing. VAT 20%. No ideas how to work with it. To call again waste of time, looks nobody know how to fix it. item today few minutes ago 334540676967

I can only speak for the coins category not art, but the problem area with coins appears to be in item specifics, so maybe if this is the same error, its the same problem in your category? Remove any reference to another country from the item specifics.
Your listing you need to get rid of these

Many thanks, I will try to do new listings this way.

I also put a new batch of 60 listings up last night, and changed them to British rather than the country they're from, and so far none attracted to spurious VAT charge. All mine have the correct country of origin in the title and description only - so we'll see how they sell whether missing out the item specifics causes a significant slump or not.
I offer international postage, so that doesn't seem to be the issue
I suspect there are many different things that do trigger it though. One I'm 100% convinced that does is the 'country of origin' box, as when you hover over it, there is some absolute carp about how filling it in will help 'streamline the customs process' . So eBay are clearly using that one to tax people - in this case wrongly!
As for which British ones trigger it, I've seen a few (other peoples) listings for scrap silver job lots affect, and its mentioned on here that Britannias are caught - so I wonder if its something to do with bullion.

On reflection, I don't think that'll work for you, as some of your existing English art has VAT added. Perhaps have a look in the category at other peoples listings and see if you can find a pattern for those that are affected, and those that are not.

This is scotish painting and it is OK. I just checked people who selling French art here is probably 90% with VAT. Just some people who removed from listing

Sorry had to go to sleep for a while been at this from 17/08/2022
Just a link i found from 2017 at the guardian, seems to be the oppisite of this scenario but
interesting read with figures in there that is shocking.
Come on Ebay that is a ridiculous amount of money to be messing around with???
you are a world wide business and your tech team cant sort out a glitch in one day this is a week later now, it will be 2 weeks on your ressolve day (Monday)
i have been onto customer support every day since 17/08/2022 and nothing but lies has been told
i'm sure the guardian would like a new story on how Ebay is back with another 20% VAT fiasco...........

katie@ebay and dave@ebay
New update for your techies
I took all my auctions down because the system has a glitch???
I have tried to put the coins that where up for auction onto buy it now option as i need money
I put each 1oz silver britannia up for sale at £27.50 (buy it now)
with £2.45 Postage inc-tracking
But when i go on my daughters laptop to look at advert the advert is not the price i put up
The advert that buyers see is
For sale at £33.00 (buy it now)
with £2.94 postage.
so it is not only auctions it is also buy it now, i don't think its a glitch it is a major problem that should be sorted A.S.A.P or at least you could stop all the new listings until you find out what is going on with your system. as my screenshot show the mistake is not progressing to the checkout. But will be confusing to buyer plus ofputting to potential buyers as it is advertised at higher price
