Fees for a customer return

I am disappointed in ebay as unable to get any help I had an item that was sold (glasses) which were carefully packed and sent the buyer then said one of 5 arrived chipped and demanded a refund. I offered this as soon as I got the product back . The buyer then went to his payment company and stopped payment and told me he was advice not to send the good back , I have even sent him a prepaid postage label. He did however send the glasses back when I said I would contest if he expected to keep the goods and demand a refund. Ebay have now agreed the dispute and given a full refund, I have paid for return postage and now received an email from ebay charging me £14 in fees for the dispute. Does anyone know why this charge is added and why. I got the glasses back and one is damaged in return transit so I am out of pocket by £3.51 postage, £14 in frees and one glass all for a £40 sale.

While recently looking through the rules yes this is one of them. I haven't had to deal with this yet and not sure when it started, i mainly sell small value items and find it easier to just refund, let them keep it and take it as a loss

The charge is because it wasn't an eBay claim,the chargeback was made via the buyers Payment Institution who make the final decision and eBay charge £14 +VAT(£16.80) if you lose the case

You were lucky to actually get your items back as in many chargeback cases the buyer is never told to return the goods.

Had the buyer opened an eBay case instead of a chargeback you wouldn't have a fee as you were accepting the claim and refunding on return.
