So every single parcel I have ordered via Ebay has been delivered to a neighbour who is elderly and recovering from cancer. After the eighth occasion and after going round in circles with an auto-bot clearly intent on avoiding passing me onto a real person, I was finally advised they would ensure it won't happen again. Yet here I am, three mis-delivered items further and Evri, as usual, simply pass the buck to the seller or myself. Ebay, Evri are diabolical so why on earth do you use them? I am no longer shopping on Ebay, it's too unreliable

Because it's often the cheapest option and most customers are too stingy to pay extra for a better service.
That and 99% of the time there's no issue so long as the item is packed properly.
Also very easy to get compensated for lost/destroyed packages (through Packlink). They somehow destroyed one I sent last year and I'd been compensated in full within 4 hours. With Royal Mail it took over a month to sort out the same thing.

No, EVRi's not the worst. My FedEx International Priority Express parcel, weight around one kilo, shipping cost $62, is on a world-wide tour.
An emergency order, so my supplier shipped on Saturday May 18. Delivery was scheduled for Wednesday. Parcel arrived in Birmingham on Tuesday, out for delivery on Wednesday. Didn't arrive. The delivery date was updated to Tuesday May 28. It's Priority Express, cost $62, and they can't deliver to an address within five miles of the depot any earlier than Tuesday?
Late on Thursday the parcel arrived in Delhi. The delivery date was updated to 'On the Way'. On Friday, it had made its way to Dubai, still 'On the Way'.
Saturday, it made landfall at Stanstead. It's still 'On the Way', but on the way to where? New York? The Falklands?
I hope the supplier packed it well. It's had a tough journey.

Fully understand. I've been waiting for a painting I purchased for my mother's birthday. I spent many hours trying to find just the right one and It was sent on the 9th July and tracked to the Evri National hub on the 10th and then vanished!!! It's now the 22nd and nobody seems to really care. A fairly large painting, fully addressed and labelled yet no sign of it!!! One would expect Evri to perhaps put out a shout to all depots and parcel shops with the order number or simply my address details and yet no, that appears to be too much trouble in this digital age. Very disappointing and frustrating and in future I will ensure I do not purchase any items using their service unless I can get the seller to change - as for the painting I am still hoping it's found although it's difficult to understand how it was lost??? As for eBay they keep asking me 'how was your tracking experience? Take a wild guess...

That is very sad, and I do hope it turns up soon, but I'm afraid that in my experience it is typical of Evri. I won't use them - if they are listed as the courier I always ask if Royal Mail is possible instead, and nine times out of ten, the seller agrees to send via them.
Just lately I have noticed that an item has been listed as dispatched via Evri; I have contacted the seller with my usual query only to be told, "Evri? I never use them! I always send via the Royal Mail!"
Is this an ebay "cunning plan" to give the impression that more sellers are using the diabolical Evri than actually are?

You are so right. I will send message to ebay seller before ordering next package, an dmake sure to avoid Evri.. They have done it a few times to me already. Packages are stuck at depot for 5 days, and the humans there opted to have Online Robots to answer our questions. They say they answer back whitin 24 hours but they don't. Algorithms that dont provide a solution, or answer properly. Worst experience ever

Ebay international shipping uses Hermes/Evri by default. The seller has no choice.

This is exactly what happened to me. Evri are diabolical here, and if the listing shows Evri, I always ask a seller if it is poaaible to send via Royal Mail.
I ordered an item the other day, listed as Royal Mail, went to 'my ebay purchase history' to leave feedback last night and saw the item had been delivered! My first reaction was 'oh no, it hasn't!'
I was at home all day, and the postman had already called, so I was somewhat baffled. Then I saw that the item had been sent via Evri!! Where was it? On my front doorstep, where Evri always leave things - if they leave them at all.
The Evri individual couldn't be bothered to ring the perfectly obvious doorbell, just dumped the parcel on the front step on a main road.
It's time this "different courier from listing" nonsense was stopped - I feel dreadful that when a seller lists something as Royal Mail, I find myself virtually having to enquire if they are telling the truth. That is not good.
I feel like leaving negative feedback on the grounds that this item was not correctly listed. Am I being unreasonable? I just don't know. I do know I am thoroughly fed up with this happening.

Sadly it's because they're cheap and most people will always go with the cheapest option. I won't go so far as to say cheapskates who don't care about quality, only saving a penny here or there, but I know of one like that who is an actual millionaire but total cheapskate and it's really annoying when he has more money than many of us can dream of but some of us do value quality over cheapness but yes, always a worry when sellers use Evri, I'm having problems now with two orders both coming via Evri, should have arrived last week, usual comments about delays, tracking gone quiet etc. Ironical thing is Evri charges more to send to my area, Royal Mail aren't perfect but no problems from them usually.

And apparently ebay has shares in evri.
11-05-2025 4:45 AM
That would explain a lot then!

Evri depends completely on the reliability and efficiency of their local agents. Ours is excellent so I am happy to use them, but yours sounds awful.
Whenever I have a significant complaint, about any company, I always go 'old school' and send a letter to the correct complaints department. That way they have to respond within a time limit plus they are bound to report the number of complaints over a year.

Not according to a list of Evri shareholders, they don't.

I have sent close on 1000 parcels with EVRi, and had problems with only three of them. I received no-hassle compensation for all of them - full cost of the item plus shipping. All parcels have been delivered promptly with no complaints from the buyers.
Royal Mail have delivered a significant number of packages very late - up to six weeks late. I've lost count of the number of replacements I've sent out. Their claims process is tortuous and the compensation is limited to the actual cost of the item.
I'd given up claiming because it was just too much bother. However, when a £70 T48 item was misdelivered, I claimed. It was obvious from the image that it was the wrong house, and the buyer sent me the Google street view of a house 20 miles away that has the same road name - and that house matched the image.
Despite the evidence, RM just gaslighted me through a dozen emails until the claim timed out. Even if they had admitted liability, they would only have paid the cost of the item, and certainly wouldn't have paid the cost of sending the replacement special delivery.
RM doesn't get my vote.
11-05-2025 10:38 AM
Lucky you! Not one of my parcels via RM (as a buyer or seller) have disappeared or been damaged and they may take a few days longer than anticipated to arrive but it has never been longer than a week. Our local EVRI courier picks and chooses who he delivers to and anyone not on the main road system can forget it! I live up a farm track and like others in a similar position you can forget any deliveries from them but he also manages to avoid delivering to anyone who lives in the village but lives behind others, too much effort to find them! I know people who have a different courier who have different stories but the point is that EVRI are supposed to be providing a service and they are not. RM have a duty to deliver to everyone everywhere. I may also add that we have never had a problem with ANY OTHER delivery courier/company.

A lot of sellers put 'other courier,' though, due to eBay giving buyers unrealistic delivery times if they specify a service.
eBay give buyers the expectation that an order will be delivered next day if 1st class is used, or that it will be delivered on the following day if 2nd class is used - whereas, in actual fact, they are NOT guaranteed services and even Royal Mail state on ALL their services (including Special Delivery) "Delivery aim". They 'aim' to deliver in 2-3 days for 2nd class, they 'aim' to deliver next day for SD, etc.
12-05-2025 8:12 AM
That's a semantics phraseology thing with Royal Mail Special Delivery as it's guaranteed for 1pm or your money back. The other services are not time guaranteed.
12-05-2025 9:56 AM
it depends on how much i want the item as to what action i take if i see 'other courier'. If it is just an impulse/not important item i will just forget it. If it is something i really want i will get in touch with the seller and find out who they are using.
