There will be less auctions and less chance of getting a decent price on something. There will be less variety.

Business sellers are usually quite savvy on what things are worth as well as having greater overheads which often means higher prices.

Whereas private sellers, having a clearout, will often use auctions, which usually end cheaper than buy it now for an item.

'Footfall' or views will drop as this affects buyers too. I never buy anything from a seller who uses Evri as I live in apartments and Evri just dumps parcels on my doorstep and with these new changes I can't see who will deliver the parcel!

Like most companies, ebay wanted something for this AI bo*****s to do. Assessing the postage cost of your item is what they came up with.

Re: theroretical question ...what will life be like e bay after the 15th any ideas

I went on the Weekly Chat with the Community Team this week and asked a question about the future.  Here it is, with the reply it received:

@debbidooda wrote:

I am a First-Time-User of these boards – and on here today due to receiving an email from ebay (at 12:05pm today) informing me that ‘Starting from 15 April, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing most items.’

From these boards (and other forums and social media elsewhere), it appears that many many ebay users are deeply unhappy about this situation (- myself included).  Ebay was once the leading online marketplace for buyers and sellers…. Sadly no more!

(Losing private sellers will mean less options for private buyers; less buyers will then affect business sellers.)

My question is:

If, after implementation, the ‘Simple Delivery mandatory’ policy change proves to have an adverse effect on ebay’s business, would a policy reversion ever be considered?

Hi debbidooda, thanks for your question.

I wouldn't rule it out, but I think it would be very unlikely for this change to be reversed, as this is the direction we're moving.

Thank you,

Marco

I think it will return to the once vibrant & healthy marketplace that has been so diminished by the rogue traders masquerading as private sellers. That other marketplace in the sky that they are flocking too is welcome to them, meanwhile ebay's search results will be full of genuine private sellers offloading what is no longer of use to them . . . Like it used to be before it was hijacked by the mouth breathers & lickspittle's flooding Caspini with their tat they gather from charity shops & car boot's.

I am already witnessing a downturn in listings in the categories I mostly sell in…

I had that survey.  It asked me to compare my sales for the first half of 2025 with the first half of 2024.

The first half of 2025 doesn't finish until June 30.  It's April 3 today.  I know there's a time zone difference between us and San Jose, but the difference is hours, not months.

Yeah.  The boards are like these creepy AI generated images on Pinterest that you don't want to click on - but you just have to.

@parsley2003

I don't blame them for staying out of this. As I understand it, they are just users, like us, so why stick themselves in the firing line.

Even the eBay staff accounts have been hiding for the best part of 2 days.

@parsley2003

Not sure I agree with that completely. They may not use the same wording we do, but the ones I've spoken with know what eBay are about.

People like tressy just seem to want to help the users, probably because they know eBay won't, at least not properly.

I'd agree that there are some idealists here too though which is strange because eBay quite obviously don't have the same ideals as them. That does ring odd to me. Stubborn could be the word.

What is Simple Delivery exactly?

Simple:
the seller will be instructed to go to a "drop off point" which might be the one they usually use or it could be 16 miles away. it's like roulette, so they won't know until they are told. Surprise! Plus they won't get any money towards their packaging. Surprise!

Delivery:
it's behind your neighbour's bin. It's wet because it's been raining. Surprise! That's if you're lucky. You might not get it at all. Surprise!

All these surprises are exciting.
