So having sold a large item (plastic wall cladding sheets, about 1kg, but 1 metre long) I had the joy of "simple" delivery to content with. Only option for the size was the large size, which it turns out is DHL collecting it. No option to drop off, has to be collected, and must be someone at home to sign(?), and the pick up window is 6am to 6pm. Hardly worth bothering for a £10 item (£12 delivery), but decided to stay home and wait. And wait. And wait. Eventually eBay updates with "not collected, premises closed" which is funny for a family home, with me working in the garage in plain sight of the entrance gates and 2-3 other members of the family around. After 45 minutes going in circles with the eBay AI, I learn they will try 3 "more" times. Bottom line: DO NOT BOTHER SELLING ANYTHING OVERSIZE. You will be completely dependent on DHL and their pants are on fire.

Same experience for me. Simple Delivery for large items is useless. DHL emailed to say collection between 8.30 and 9.30. Never showed up and then when I contacted DHL, they said that it wasn't collected as 'Premises Closed' (we were in all day, of course!). In the past I took large items to Parcelforce Depot (about 1 hour of my time in total) and never had any problems over many years with delivery, parcels lost, or anything.
We need to have the old list of postage options in Ebay so we could choose - this current 'DHL only' system does not work for Ebay sellers and buyers AT ALL.

Same here
My parcel should have been collected from me on Tue 7 October.
On Wed 15 October I took it to my local collection agent who scanned it into the system.
It was collected the following day arriving at the Delivering Warehouse Edinburgh on Sat 18 October.
It is still waiting to be delivered.
22 days and counting.

Further to above. Parcel eventually arrived after 24 days and several hours trying to get some sense out of eBay and DHL be me and my buyer.

Same, no one came, plus I could take it to the post office for parcel force for same price. It is 50x50x 3cm.... and weights 1.5k , so hardly oversized!!!!!!!! Now I have to waste so much time tryingto speak to ebay.. I am not in the whole of any day ever. I don't want collections esp ones that never come. I can't cancel the label either. I might relist if buyer agrees and put collection only, paypal me the post money as adding to item cost will increase the buyers (greed)fee. Stupid stupid ebay

This "Simple" delivery system looks like an epic fail.
I worked from home on Friday having been given and 8am to 6pm window for DHL collection.
Received an email from DHL in the morning saying the window was now an implausible 19.38 to 20.38, thus wrecking my evening plans (Halloween). Not only did they not show up but the eBay tracking shows that collection was "refused", which makes me look bad to my buyer.
I'm now sat at home (Mon 3rd Nov) wondering if DHL will turn up or not.
eBay agent is suggesting I book a separate collection / drop off, pay for it myself and then claim a refund even though I had no choice over the collection.
They told me on the phone that the delivery service was chosen by the buyer, so it's not eBay's problem!
Agent kept telling me the solution was for me to re-book with DHL or another service, basically making it my problem even though I had no choice in the either the courier or whether it was collected or dropped off.
I've contacted the buyer and passed on this information and I am not going to play ball with eBay as it's 100% their issue to solve. Feel bad for my buyer but unless people stand firm eBay will do nothing to change this ridiculously flawed process.

The problem here is not whether DHL provides and bad service or otherwise, but Ebay having become so restricted by not giving us the choice of booking our courier of preference for the job.
For instance, I'm having to charge the buyer quite a bit more than I would if I was using a different courier. As it stands DHL is pricier than DPD for instance, for certain dimensions and weight.
So, why can't be choose the best carrier for our listings, what was so wrong about this reasonable flexibility that had to me done away with, Ebay?

Why can't we choose the best carrier?
All comes down to cash for the favoured evri/DHL hook up for which ebay have obviously negotiated a nice slice of commission. Stands out a mile when everything gets lumped into the DHL 'bulky items of up to 30kg' bracket, 30kg...... they are having a laugh

Quick update on my experience, DHL didn't collect for a week, I have stayed every day waiting for them. No sorry email or any message at all. Had to refund the buyer for the item, and because I paid for the shipping £14.97 , filed a form for unused label ( you have 14 days to do that, no confirmation or record is given once done that)....I was told then I need to wait 30-40 days for the "decision" and refund.. a month passed since ,... still waiting and honestly feels embarrassing we have to deal with things like that!

Evri prices based on parcel weight, not size. That means you can send large parcels up to 120cm long and with a combined length and circumference of 245cm

Maximum weight permitted by Evri is 15Kg though and Simple Delivery prices only show options up to 10Kg for Evri.

Unfortunately not quite right, once the length goes over I believe 61cm, then you need to, sorry have to use DHL’s bulk carriage. I wanted to send an LED strip light for an aquarium- it weighed under a kilo but was for a tank longer than 2 foot, 60cm, so I was forced to use the DHL heavy package route. Couldn’t even drop it off at the local DHL collection point that’s around the corner. Had to wait in for collection.

EBay announced recently that they will be adding new size options, sometime this month, for items that are large but not particularly heavy, such as golf clubs, but it doesn’t appear that these are available yet.
