Re: private feedback

I view every buyer with private feedback with suspicion, there's no reason to hide feedback unless you have something to hide, imo.

If they're bidding I will cancel and block them.

Re: private feedback

The Feedback system is pretty useless anyway.  Sellers can only leave Positives for Buyers and it all adds to a single total.  For instance mine is currently 1,119 but that doesn't mean I've had over a thousand happy Buyers.

Very often Negative Feedback is far more damning of the person who left it than the Seller.

If a Seller has poor Feedback so what?  If they sell something that's not what it claims to be or doesn't send it at all that's what the Money Back Guarantee is for.  Businesses get Negatives because of the quality of the items not their service so that would only be relevant were I considering buying the same product but, again, it's all mixed-up together.

If they have good that doesn't mean that they won't make a mistake or be deliberately untruthful with whatever I'm buying.  Sellers who have never had things lost or damaged in the post have never been tested as to how well they'll deal with it.

Re: private feedback

As sellers can't have private feedback, and only buyers can, what difference does it really make?

The bid/purchase arrives, and you deal with it, just as you would with someone with visible feedback. Unless it's a high risk or high value transaction, it's rarely an issue.

Despite that, although there are some plausible reasons for keeping feedback private, I would be in favour of making it possible to block bidders with private feedback from my listings.

Re: private feedback

With a more expensive item I like to check their feedback left for others, that can say a lot about somebody.

The keeping feedback private lark is all rather outdated now, it was introduced when sellers could still neg buyers.

Re: private feedback

Adding to that correct answer it was  also viable when sellers were selling ' sensitive items' ,  but now the buyer's ID's are encrypted it matters not,  so no need for the Private feedback here!

Re: private feedback

One person I queried told me they'd felt obliged to make their feedback private because someone at work had enjoyed viewing their f/b to find out what they'd bought and make comments about it.

Nevertheless, like tressygirl, when I see a buyer has set their feedback private, I'm a bit wary.

As a buyer it works in reverse also. I would like to see sellers being unable to remove any genuine negative feedback, unless of course it's of the personal / racist kind. I would also prefer ebay not to leave their  AI feedback for sellers . The buyers aren't getting the full picture of a seller either with these options in use.

BTW I have my feedback set to private as it's my business what I buy & I got fed up with sellers leaving promos of themselves within the f/b for all to see, it doesn't make me a bad buyer! 😐

Re: private feedback

I currently have my feedback set to private because it creeped me out when I commented on the forum and another poster told me he has scrolled through my feedback.

FYI I've not left or received bad feedback but it still made me uncomfortable.

It's also another reason why I don't post much anymore.
