eBay removed an item "Policy Violation"

I had a genuine new and boxed Apple iPhone charger, which came direct from Apple with my work phone.  The charger was surplus to requirements and my work said I was free to do whatever I wanted with it, so decided to put it on eBay.

It was sold, but eBay have now decided it was counterfeit (which it wasn't).  I have refunded the buyer as I don't want them to be caught up in it, but I am not sure how to contact eBay and ask them to explain themselves!

It's too late now as you have refunded the buyer. Ebay will only give you pleasantries if you contact them.

Did the buyer return them? Did they open a case?

It's hard for you to prove an item is genuine unless you have a shop receipt or similar. Buyer always wins, seller loses in these cases.

Thanks for the advice... I shall leave it in which case.

The buyer did not open a case, but contacted me following eBay writing to them to say that there was a Policy Violation.

Thankfully the buyer was very understanding.

Did you get a message from eBay informing you that there was a Policy Violation?

Yes - I got a similar e-mail from eBay about the issue at the same time as the buyer did.

When you only mentioned the buyer receiving an email, I wondered whether it was a new scam!

This is exactly why I didn’t sell some handbags for a close friend on eBay a few years ago.

The three handbags are designer and a well known brand.

Her ex husband who is very wealthy bought them for her aka she bought them he paid.

She had kept receipts also.

For one she wanted £750, another £600 and third one £950.

I said I will sell them on eBay ….then I changed my mind.

Told her to sell via a more trusted channel as any one of the buyers could say ‘fake’ and get their money refunded keeping bag.

In the end we sold via a reputable auction house (bigger commission but safer).

That is interesting and I don't blame you for using a different channel for the handbags.

Apple belong to the vero programme.  They don't like their products being sold on ebay.  When they are reported ebay calls them counterfeit even though they probably aren't.  It's just poor communication.
