Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

Hi I've just received this message contacted ebay and is being sent to everyone

That's me I'm done no more ebay for me bye bye

We are making changes to the way we process payments on eBay. Going forward, we’ll make your funds available for payout within 48 hours after we’ve confirmed delivery of the item. Until then, you’ll see a “hold” on your funds. This process helps keep our marketplace safe.

Best to keep those thoughts to yourself not post on Ebay forum 😉. We don't want anymore rules put in place do we?

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

I've had another thought. If sending a large letter untracked the payment is released 2 weeks from order date. Well, hold onto the item for about 8 days before you send it. Then, at least, the buyer won't have use of it for too long before you get your money. Include a mention in the listing that delivery can take two weeks.  If they complain it's not received yet and ebay refund them, then you still have your item. At the moment I'm not seeing an issue with this thought but I'm open to correction.

Probably " penalised" for late dispatch? And the EDD will show, so the buyer would expect it...even if adding info to the description possibly may not deter a buyer from opening a case? I could be wrong, but who knows?

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

I have not purchased anything since early December, and will not purchase anything ever again.

I am not paying a " fee" for something whereby  a " protection" or " benefit" doesn't exist!

MBG covers items...

Postal courier covers items...

Transactions are already " secured'

So it is a " fee" for a 24/7 customer service ? Really?

I cannot recall in all of the 17years here of having to speak to an agent about a purchase?

And I am certainly not agreeing to having my funds held for any length of time no matter how they want to dress it up as a " buyers protection"...  it is misleading and only serves eBay.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

Once private sellers are forced to use simple delivery there won't be any postage charges set by the seller to input. That bit on the listing form will be missing I presume. But  perhaps there's hope, just as on the V site, that sellers can set carriers they use by ticking boxes and leave some unticked.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

I still have 3 showing from November!!!

So I would be trying to " convince" an algorithm that all deliveries were made so my funds should be released!

I do not think so... nope not happening.

The stress of it all is palpable now;  Never mind a Buyers  24/7  customer service - they will need  a SELLERS  " hotline"...

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

I have a sale from Sunday that was sent next day prior to 1pm and arrived with buyer by 10am who has sign for it and left me positive feedback.

ebay shows it’s still in transit (dispatched).

Like you I don’t plan on convincing a CS in the new world to get my money for a sale.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

A Special Delivery RM service, so does the onus lay with RM or with eBay to update tracking between the parties/ system?

Never have I known a Special Delivery service not show/update  on the eBay system the very day RM showed delivered on their website.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

It is a link between RM and ebay called an API (An application programming interface (API) is a connection between computers or between computer programs. It is a type of software interface, offering a service to other pieces of software.)

This link  often fails when ebay or RM update systems, the internet connection fails or maintainence is carried out, this makes the information flow to stop and the information does not show on ebay but usually will show on the carriers website.

The API is the responsibility of the carrier and has to be updated in sync with ebay as they change their systems  - often this fails  as changes occur on ebay.

RM will blame ebay and ebay will blame RM  when the information flow stops or lags behind.

The good news is that ebay when determining delivery in a case do not rely on the API link and will check the information on the carrier website. However I am not certain that this will be the case when it comes to delivery dependant payments unless running in the background is the carrier updates ?

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

Thank you so much for your explanation, that makes sense now. Appreciate.

For sure, the " flow stop or lag" will affect payments as it is 48hrs AFTER considered successful delivery and if the system is " behind"... then surely this will affect and only start to count the time from when the system " catches up?" So it would be further delaying the " funds held" process.

I still have delayed delivery shown on 3 of mine from last November... it has not updated... although delivered and feedback left.

I just cannot get on board with the " funds held" and I am not comfortable with posting items when I do not have the sales funds in my account.

Simple Delivery has made it a " no go" for me anyhow... so the funds held is just another "kick!"

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

Quite often the break in communication does not 'catch up'  and ebay will always show no information.

The question that needs answering given that ebay and the carriers are aware of the limitations of the API is whether there will be an automatic reliance on accessing the carrier's tracking information rather than a reliance solely on the relay of information between the ebay tracking programme and the carrier's tracking program.

I feel that either there will be a different reliance in the background or ebay will manually check when a seller raises the issue.

I would hope that ebay have been working with the carriers to overcome this well known limitation before they roll out the new payment system.

It would make sense that they have this covered but then ebay can display an astonishing arrogance of importance and  size when it comes to acting responsibly - often passing the buck back to the third party and putting the onus on the member to 'take it up with the carrier' (third party)

However if ebay did rely on the API - they would under the new buyer protection end up having to honour the item lost protection  - so my guess is that they have thought of this and will only check when an INR case is opened by the buyer and sellers will end up with a 14 day payment delay - Hopefully I am wrong !

Because some people are late to the party and some 'like the sound of their own voice' and keep repeating the same old stuff!

I have largely given up responding now.

As you say, these are the new rules, take them or leave, but stop going on  about it.  All that can be said has been said.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

We just need an ebay 'bigwig' to see that this thread has nearly 600 comments and to actually read the concerns and answer them.

No newcomer to the thread will sit and read all the comments, so they often say things that have already been pointed out by others. I think the conclusion is that the 4th February changes are not entirely clear (except that ebay is screwing private sellers).

I'd suggest this thread is closed and we all get on with selling what we can now and make choices of whether to continue selling with ebay in February.

So sorry that you lack understanding - it really must be difficult for you - but then a lot of people crave the simple life !

You missed the point completely - the issue raised by another member was why the ebay tracking did not update and the impact on the new payment scheme which relies on delivery being recorded - so it was a simple explanation of the API and why it often did not communicate, the responsibility for the API and the  action that ebay already take under the current systems and whether they would improve the method of delivery confirmation from the current system which already does not rely entirely on the ebay tracking which is linked by API to the carrier .

If you feel you are not capable of understanding the thread - ask and I will happily explain in much simpler English - I understand that some people's capabilities are impaired and am always willing to help.

If you are simply bored of the thread - just don't visit it - rather than waste your time making repetetive and irrelevant comments !

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

Ebay has lost the plot, I sent an item, tracked, customer received and I have proof on the Royal Mail app, using the same tracking number on eBay it just says DISPATCHED.....

This is a scam from eBay to withhold funds to gain interest in there account, why should I offer next day or 48 hours if I am still waiting for my money a week later, might as well send via carrier pigeon....

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

A few years back it was simple.

You buy, you pay and receive.

You sell, you get paid and dispatch

Ebay makes money - everyone is happy.

For all those defending this move by Ebay, what a bunch of sausages you are. You are being mugged off either as a seller or a buyer.

Lemmings will be lemmings I suppose....

Just to add, private sellers made Ebay since it's conception.

Now they want to shaft us.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

All we can hope is that those who can (clothes sellers, antique sellers, coin/stamps etc. sell elsewhere and ebay re-thinks it's policy.

They can only shaft us if we let them.
