Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

Hi I've just received this message contacted ebay and is being sent to everyone

That's me I'm done no more ebay for me bye bye

We are making changes to the way we process payments on eBay. Going forward, we’ll make your funds available for payout within 48 hours after we’ve confirmed delivery of the item. Until then, you’ll see a “hold” on your funds. This process helps keep our marketplace safe.

Well obviously I meant under the new rules!  It would be a way to speed payment up.

Surely this isn't going to end well for them? They removed seller fees to compete with other companies such as Vinted and then the one thing setting them apart they get rid of and now make us wait for payment. Ridiculous. Really hope it hurts them badly. What utter clowns come up with these ideas.

As far as I am aware, Vinted has pretty much the same payment terms as those being introduced by eBay.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

You would be waiting anyhow because funds are held for 48 hours AFTER confirmed successful delivery...which should mean you could access funds on the Thursday ( as delivered Tuesday)  So with the  " delay" on the system not updating correctly, it will only result in another 48 hours wait. ie. if it only updates  on Thursday , you will have to wait a further  48hours for funds to be released... which means from the " true" delivered  date and the delayed system update, you will have waited at least 4  to 6 days ( taking into account weekends) ... If different postage used then it would result in  much longer delays.

It truly is not a " user-friendly" system nor does it instil trust or " protection" for private sellers.

I will stop selling too due to this and Simple Delivery.

I have already stopped purchasing due to the proposed BPF, may as well start now 😉

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

I've had another thought. If sending a large letter untracked the payment is released 2 weeks from order date. Well, hold onto the item for about 8 days before you send it. Then, at least, the buyer won't have use of it for too long before you get your money. Include a mention in the listing that delivery can take two weeks.  If they complain it's not received yet and ebay refund them, then you still have your item. At the moment I'm not seeing an issue with this thought but I'm open to correction.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

Because u can get paid 2 days after they receive the item if the postman
bothers to scan the item when putting it through the post box. (Not all do
and that’s when u need to wait 14 days for eBay to release ur money.) If u
hold on to the item for 8days, ur open to loads of complaints or requests
from sellers to send earlier and they could also cancel the order for being
too late and no longer required.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

This is to move closer to the Vinted model which is seriously flawed. I've always maintained that eBay isn't perfect but gets the best balance possible with all the complexities of a third-party sales platform. Now it's lowering its standards and it's self-defeating. If it's as rubbish as Vinted, loyal sellers like me, might as well use Vinted! We'll probably lose the 30-day money back guarantee and the rare ability to speak to a human soon too. They need a more creative solution to keep up with competition, not become the same as.

What does that actually achieve though?   It will just antagonise the buyer and lead to further problems.

Surely eBay buyers will be put off by having to pay buyers fees when they purchase from a private seller after 4th February.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

What is worrying about this new proposed system whereby ebay retains the sales proceeds until a delivery confirmation is that all of a sudden in the last 2 days (I use Royal Mail UK) is that for the ebay  postal tracking only 1 out of 3 of the Royal Mail tracked items are NOT updating correcting on the Ebay side, so on ebay it's showing as 'Sender despatching item' (should be 'Posted To Buyer') but you click on the postal tracking link on Ebay that takes you to the Royal Mail website and the delivery status is either 'Delivered' or 'Accepted at Parcelshop' or 'At the <name of postal> Hub'. So there's a discrepancy between the reality of the progress of the parcel versus what Ebay claims is the progress. This glitch has suddenly reared it's head in the last 2 days and for months it's been working consistently with Royal Mail and Ebay perfectly.

I'm guessing this means I would only get my money two weeks after it was actually delivered ? not exactly ideal due to a glitch in the system whereby somehow Ebay is not having the state of the order delivery status updated correctly.

And the other thing that is worrying is the rumour going around that in April 2025 that private sellers will be forced onto the 'Simple Delivery' form of sending purchased items to the buyer; so the buyer selects the carrier whereby it's say Yodel, Evri or Royal Mail and then the seller is obliged to use that service and a postal label is sent to the seller digitally (via Packlink ?!?!? I'm not sure) and then the seller has to print out and use that postage label and then use a drop off point that uses that particular postal carrier that the buyer has chosen.

My question to anyone who has used 'Simple Delivery' by Ebay is does that mean for the UK  using this system is the cost of postage now variable for the buyer in the UK and the buyer selects the exact service type for the carrier they selected e.g. for Royal Mail they could select either 24 or 48 hour tracked which differ in price ? and the buyer is charged accordingly ?  Or does the 'Simple Delivery' system

just charge what you've priced postage to be what you already set it to as the seller  e.g. say 'free' or say, '£3.39' and then the buyer selects the most expensive delivery option (say DHL !) - surely it cannot work that way.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

Item is marked as despatched. What can they complain about if it is stated in the listing that delivery can take up to 14 days. If they want a faster postage they can pay more for tracked. If a seller can wait 14 days for payment then a buyer can wait the same to receive it. If ebay doesn't like it then they can change the decision about a 14 days hold.

Yes. My husband was not pleased when he found he can no longer use nectar points and now this! Buyers are going to only buy if it is something they really want badly enough.

Its not the buyers fault Ebay have made these changes so why take it out on them? If you do not like the new terms then just do not sell, there is no need to become a bad seller just to try and prove a point that will not even be noticed.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

I also have an item that is incorrectly showing that an item has yet to be delivered.  Coincidence?  I think not.  I think we should all chase this up with ebay every time this happens - somehow, they need to get the message that this is not tolerable!

Surely all buyers will be interested in is what they have to pay in total to get the item, most don't even quibble over what could be seen as excessive postage.

So either they are willing to pay the 'new' prices, or they are not.  Just as previously something was worth paying X for, now they have to decide whether it's worth paying Y for.

As genuine private sellers would be selling something that is not particularly common, price comparisons won't be available.  So its all about does the buyer want it or not, and I really don't thing the additional buyer fee will be the deciding factor in whether they buy it.

Members who say they are never buying from private sellers after this fee is imposed, seem to me to be ex, or soon to be ex, private sellers who presumably were buying things they can get elsewhere, or are just making a point.

I am willing to be proved wrong after the fee comes in but I do not think it will have the devasting effect on buyer behaviour that is being posited on these boards.

Re: Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

The way I understand it is that EBay will just show the buyer the price with the fee already included so if I list some thing at £10 the buyer will see the price £11.15.

The only problem here for selling is I look at what is already listed and set my prices accordingly, I mean if I have an item to sell and there are others listed for £20 there is no point listing mine for £30, it probably won't sell. So if there are a lot of an item listed for £10 and I want to sell one I'll probably have to start mine at about £8.80 so the buyer sees the price as £10. So while it is still technically free to list and no seller fees if you want your item to sell you have to account for the Buyer fee when setting your prices.
