The fact they take several days to ship items I have bought from them. Me, when I sell something I drop it off at the post office the same day a buyer pays if there is time or I pay to have it collected by the postie the next morning. Why do some sellers on eBay take 2 or 3 days?
Even more annoying is the seller is on holiday and hasn't told eBay.
Do sellers not realise they can go to the Royal Mail's website and pay for postage and even have the postie turn up with the shipping label or that they can take the parcel to the post office with a QR code and the post office can print out the shipping label for you?
Why take so long? Especially private sellers where you don't get your money until 2 days after delivery?

I think that’s why EBay have introduced the policy of not paying out until 2 days after delivery. Once people had their money they could be quite tardy about sending things out.

The delayed payment doesn't affect my dispatch time as I am not desperately short of money.
Some of us have full time jobs while trying to sole parent children so life gets busy it's not always possible to dispatch with 24 hours although I try if possible sometimes it takes another day which isn't a crime.
I recall setting a 3 day dispatch time once but ebay seem to ignore that when deciding what to tell buyers.

The seller (in the past at least) sets their delivery times, if the buyer is too stupid to actually read that then that is their problem. I have always despatched within the time frame, i usually go out first thing in the morning and i post any items that have been paid for at that point. Why should i get RM to collect or do anything i have not said i would do in the offer?

This is exactly one of the reasons ebay introduced Simple Delivery for private sellers, too many have no regard for their customers, using excuses such as - they only go to town once a week - they wait until they sell a few items before shipping - will not ship until the money has been received in their bank with the lame excuse that they cannot afford the postal label or they simply received the money and couldn't be bothered.
With the forced Simple Delivery private sellers will have to ship in a timely manner to get paid - within 3 days for shipping and no payment until it is delivered.
ebay listened to buyers who constantly aired their dissatisfaction
This change should be well received by buyers who can choose the shipping method and be assured that if a private seller does not ship on time ebay have their money safe and sound ready to refund quickly if the seller does not ship the item quickly and the buyer does not receive the goods.
ebay also guarantee the item during shipment once received by the carrier against loss or damage - meaning that you will receive a refund quickly rather than sellers stating that the buyer must wait 14 days or 30 days or until the carrier decides or even worse telling the buyer that they must claim from the carrier which is all untrue and comes from sellers avoiding responsibility.
Hopefully as the changes are rolled out you will be able to avoid sellers with poor attitudes -
Maybe look for private sellers who are already enrolled into Simple Delivery ?

Not everyone can take post to the post office daily due to having a job. It's ok getting post from online but if you're unable to get to a post office to make sure it gets a first scan into the system then you have to put in a post box and hope. You get an estimated delivery date before you pay, if it's too long then find another seller

In a nutshell......
Because most private sellers have other commitments.
Simple delivery has basically stopped us from listing as we cannot comply with all the terms and conditions at the moment. I could write a lot about why it just wont work for us but every private sellers personal circumstances are probably different,

Sorry i disagree with you.....Ebay introduced SD to cream yet more profit off for themselves
I used to set my shipping at 5 days BUT usually managed to post within 2 days. I cannot guarantee to ship within 2 or 3 days due to other commitments. That does not mean that i have a poor attitude and my feedback confirms this.
Private sellers do not evolve their life around Ebay,

For private sellers, Ebay is not a job.
I have a 5 day dispatch time - I only want to go to the Post Office once a week - and if buyers don't like it, they will have to buy from somebody else.
If the item is untracked, I get paid as quickly as a seller who posts the same day - 14 days after the transaction date.
I am aware that the postie can collect from my home, but I really don't want the bother of waiting in for somebody to arrive and collect my parcels.
There is another online selling site which offers next day delivery. I do buy there sometimes.
However, if I am buying a sought after, possibly unique and lovely item from Ebay, I can wait for it.

On the collection thing it really wouldn't work for those of us with active lives. I leave the house early, am at work all day and often taking kids to various friends or events in the evening or hosting other kids and I don't want a postie turning up when I am trying to cook several different meals at once, help with homework or getting them to bed.
I'm typing this now in the car inbetween dropping one kid to judo club and the other to school after having just dropped off RM and Yodel items. Each private seller has their own circumstances that will affect their ability to dispatch .

@1956glynNo, not all jewelry is exempt from using Simple Delivery on eBay UK. While jewelry is listed as a category of items that are exempt from Simple Delivery, it's important to note that this exemption is only for specific types of jewelry. Specifically, Simple Delivery is mandatory for private sellers in the UK selling jewelry with a Buy it Now price, auction starting price or reserve price of £500 or less, excluding Authenticity Guarantee and bulky listings. Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Exemption:Valuables, including jewelry, watches, and precious metals, are exempt from Simple Delivery. Mandatory:Simple Delivery is mandatory for private sellers in the UK selling jewelry with a Buy it Now price, auction starting price or reserve price of £500 or less. Exclusions:Authenticity Guarantee and bulky listings are also excluded from Simple Delivery. In summary, while some types of jewelry are exempt from using Simple Delivery on eBay UK, most jewelry with a price of £500 or less is subject to the mandate for Simple Delivery.

Back in the olden days, when there was a bank branch in even some smallish villages, I had the misfortune to work in such a branch, in a village which did not have a post office. So I can understand that people in that position may only be able to post on weekends. I know you are no longer, as you were then, limited to using RM, but it can still be a major inconvenience getting to a parcel drop-off point, either before or after doing a full day's work.
Luckily, my bank manager was OK with me dropping my stamped packages in with the bank mail to be picked up, as long as there weren't too many.

Crumbs no, I balked at listing something for £50!
I ended all my listings early this month, I want to pay postage to my hard working family in my little PO, so they get more commission than current SD parcels which I believe generate a mere 3p. per parcel for them.
Also, not owning and never will , an i Phone , my Nokia brick serves me well, hearing all the constant failures of not being able to print eBay labels due to tech issues, it's then a QR code, for which I could not receive.
Loved my time selling on eBay, and Very sad, that I have to leave this way. 😭

The response from members who believe that they as sellers are more important than the buyers who give them money shows exactly why Simple Delivery had to be introduced.
These sellers are the ones who protest against Simple Delivery because if they want to continue to sell on ebay they are actually going to have to give buyers what they reasonably expect.
If a seller is too 'busy to fulfill a sale - they should not be offering items for sale !
Instead of blaming ebay for lack of sales maybe they should look at improving their attitude towards buyers rather than treating their buyers as second class citizens !

You may have a brick but thats more than i have. By choice i do not own a mobile lol
J changes his iphone every 2 years and is always offering me his old one.........no thanks 🙂

You comment as if all Business Sellers post same/next day.
That just doesn’t happen.
So, any derogatory comments against any seller who doesn’t post in such fashion are just unwarranted.
I wonder what the uproar would be (will be?) from Business Sellers if such a policy were imposed on them?
IMHO, a wee bit more than that from Private Sellers.

If a seller is too 'busy to fulfill a sale - they should not be offering items for sale !
And that is exactly why i do not have any live listings !
Also.....
Instead of blaming ebay for lack of sales maybe they should look at improving their attitude towards buyers rather than treating their buyers as second class citizens !
Yes the current cost of living crisis is affecting sales amongst other things but the BPF has definitely not helped Ebay sales.
And maybe some buyers should get away from the "i want it and i want it now attitude" as not everyone can accommodate that demand.
A bit over dramatic saying buyers are classed as 2nd class citizens.....
29-04-2025 9:11 AM
and on that note......i am heading out for a 2 hr counselling session followed by a 1 and a half hour trip both ways over to see my bro in law who lost his wife to Brain cancer a few months back followed by losing his mother a week later. I guess i should put buyers before this.........no chance !
