Why cant we change the size of items on Simply Delivery?

The complete untested or sandboxing shambles of "Simply Delivery" continue...... I've watched YouTube videos, and it appears eBay has remove the "custom set sizing" option for packages. So all you can do is increase the weight if it gets the size wrong.

Please say If I'm missing something? I have search the word "size" on HTML and it again, doesn't give you the option.

I'm selling car parts which the Ebay IA think are all the size of an mobile phone.

Honest still, THE WORST ROLL OUT EVER.

Response from Ebay Customer services - no way any of this could go wrong right, ha! All of this could be fixed by a simple "correct our sizing" button.

"Please allow me to explain that as in simple delivery weight and dimension are selected from option shown as system automatically determine according to category it is listed and the label which you get is accepted at post office as part of an agreement we have, the post office will accept your package, even if the weight or dimensions are not accurate on the label, as long as they still meet the programme requirements."

"If it get charges any extra charges the we will credit back the charges on account."

I'll put £20 now on, Postman showing at the door and either:
(a) Not accepting package as its not to size, or
(b) They do, Ebay "automatically" charges you

'...the post office will accept your package, even if the weight or dimensions are not accurate on the label, as long as they still meet the programme requirements.'

Packing an item, and then sticking on a postage label/code thing, with a weight that might well be completely wrong for that item, seems such an unsatisfactory way of doing things.

eBay 'making up the shortfall' later, also seems a peculiar arrangement... a bit Arthur Daley-esque... 'don't worry, I'll see you right...' 😉

Obviously, Royal Mail & Evri agreed to this, so they must feel confident it will all be ok... I guess time will tell...

'If it get charges any extra charges the we will credit back the charges on account.'

I'm sure we can all take comfort from that...

This is one of the things many people, including many sensible posters, don't get.

In OP's case, there won't BE a shortfall. eBay's deal with RM/PO is not based on the size/weight of any one item. It is based on the AVERAGE size/weight of all the items posted.

So if a few, even say 10%, weigh more than they really should do, according to the label, it really doesn't matter. All the others will bring that average back down to something within the terms of their agreement. Many suspect that is why they are so reluctant to exclude large letters from SD - they need the light packages to keep their average down.

As long as your package doesn't exceed the maximum weight and dimensions for the courier (RM or Evri), in which case the package will be excluded from SD anyway, there will be no problem.

Please, stop inventing convoluted scenarios. eBay may muck this up, but they don't seem to have done so yet. The few complaints about this sort of situation have arisen from either the PO failing to follow instructions from their bosses, or individuals simply not understanding SD, the latter of which is OK, as that's what the boards are for.

Think the point here is, not many of us "trust" Ebay or RM/Evri (all low margin businesses) to honour that completely, especially from inception when most people - dont really understand any of this based on past dealings. All Ebay sellers will have experienced couriers finding a reason to not accept your package, changing the sizes for each class or just generally inflating postage costs (between 2023 and 2025 - 2nd Class small packages increased by 17%).

Especially in my case, when its "auto sizing" my package to be no more then 62cm long, and its more then 1m long - and I have no way to change this. I have this "like to be honest" thing I try to do.

Around all of this is Ebay not really given time for sellers, delivery providers or the public to really understand or work this out. Other then reading there FAQ section, which again - contradicts itself whilst trying to be simple (its very easy to tell when lawyers have written stuff, but when management has gone - "try to make it simple", but legal minds will overrule). Phrases like "no extra charge, as long as they still meet the programme requirements." - great now I, someone that just wants to sell my <£50 second hand stuff, needs to go and look at what "programme requirements" means, but regardless there will be a "buck stopping at the sellers" point - because again, theres a point in there about charging sellers the excess.

Again, the principle with simply delivery - I get and even encourage. My point is - not enough testing, sandboxing, rushing to market, applying to all sale items, making updates live "adding and removing buttons", not admitting issues - is not how you respect your customers.

Anyway - just would like to see a little more thought put to these things. Puts pressure on the poor Ebay customer services people that are left dealing with peoples frustration.
