It has been my understanding that certain goods (eg collectable postage stamps, postcards etc) and low value items (ie nunder£5) are not subject to the imposition of Simple Delevery and that sellers can still select their custom process of delivery.
Is this still the case, or is SD now compulsory for all and for everything?

Yes, there are items which are exempt from Simple Delivery.
Namely, items which are priced £10 or under and weigh 100 grams or less will be exempt, as will items that are bulky or oversized, or require local pickup.

In which case, can anyone please explain why, since all my items (collectable postage stamps) are under £10, all of which will can be dispatched one envelope at less than 100g have been changed by Ebay from Custon Delivery to Simple Delivery?

Have you just been automatically switched over to Simple Delivery, for items originally listed with Custom postage?
Then, you are not alone and many have found many errors through this auto change over.
If this is the case, you'll need to manually change them all back to custom postage.

Yes - everything changed automatically without prior notice. Thank you for the simple solution.
Unfortunately I can't see how to do it - any edit function I can find doesn't allow changes to delivery process. The nearest I got to changing to Custom Delivery is to pick a live listing, end it, select "sell similar" and save that as a draft. The relist the "draft" and change the delivery method - this however that just brings up a message indicating that Simple Delivery will over-ride my postage policy. Net result - nothing changes.
How is it supposed to be done?

You have to use the Stamps category
not the collectibles category

This isn't good enough?
Decimal (1971-2022)

I’m sorry,, ignore what I said
on looking at one of your listings I mistakenly thought it was listed under collectibles as that’s what it said at the top , category-collectables&art
But I think that’s the big umbrella term for many categories , stamps being one of them
Anyway you should get custom postage when listing stamps but I don’t know why you can’t
Maybe customer services has the answer

I've just tried a listing in Stamps > Great Britain > Elizabeth II > Decimal 1971-2022. I couldn't get custom postage either until I entered an item price of £1.
You then have to click Add Primary Service:—
and a full list come up including normal Second Class. You can the add the amount you wish to charge:—

If selling similar go down to the selling price & press enter. (This may also need to be done if listing from scratch). If £10 and under then the custom options should appear (£10.01 & simple delivery appears).
Note you still need to scroll to the bottom & look at preferences to change the despatch time from the 2 days to a custom option.
I'm finding that if you then use new items to sell similar or templates then the custom options & despatch times still stay. (If using older listings then they may need to be modified again).
Currently can't find any stamp categories that don't work (they started fixing them around 2-3 weeks ago & just tried that one).

Same as my workaround of entering over the maximum of £750 but using the lower limit. What a mess!

Its now no exceptions, its mandatory, I was able to sell that were under 100g, comes the 1st July Ebay changed to SD unless you find a cheeky workaround....there used to be exceptions there aren't no more
07-07-2025 7:48 PM
There were exceptions for me at quarter-past six as evidenced above. It depends on the category and item price.

Can't see any exemptions for any of the Comic categories - Books & audiobooks do seem to work (plus the odd other thing like bookmarks & maps). I would hope they are still working through categories to sort this out - it took a while for the stamp categories to be sorted once they had been started.
Note I have seen things like clothing pop up in stamp categories so not sure whether Ebay do actually monitor that. (Some are business sellers as well !)

No
there are exemptions
the problem is some people can’t list with custom whilst others can
this is down to eBay to FIX ASAP as it’s getting very boring and frustrating and totally unnecessary and inexcusable
ebay an unprofessional company
it used to be important to have a reputation before it not anymore
it’s all just how much money are you making or s all that matters
and that philosophy is extremely petty and so sad
