From February 5th it won't be worth it to sell on eBay because of buyer's fees being introduced so on the 4th before midnight I am planning to close all and any items I have up.
Anyone else doing the same?
If eBay want private sellers here they are doing their best to get rid of us.
I will never sell here again(I know I said this before but this time I am out completely).
Well done eBay. RIP eBay, it was good while it lasted.

Buyers purchase based on how they are feeling not just price. If they see the fee at checkout that will also make them feel annoyed and more likely to abandon their cart.

If you go to the PO once a week then you will have to be careful as to when your items end. Simple delivery insists that you post within 2 to 3 days max.
lately we do not know where we will be from one day to another so sending by RM at a post office works for us. This can be an hour or two away from home. We just take the item and find a PO wherever we are 🙂 I just cannot see Simple Delivery working for us.

I dont see what difference putting an amount on auction, it's just a price to a buyer. It's going to be interesting as smaller items will end up going to the carboot or charity shop. Something cheap with a 75p plus 4%, might be cheaper in a shop, retailer or elsewhere and not from ebay now!

It hasn't affected Vinted in anyway, haven't they seen record growth over the last 2 years?
I buy based on price shown on the listing it is my understanding that the fee isn't added after so I know exactly what I need to pay.

If you're deciding to reduce prices because of the "buyer's fee", give the matter some thought.
The fee will be most obvious in the incongruous prices being asked. e.g. something you listed at £15 is now £16.35; something that was £7.00 is now £8.03.
Do some calculations so that the prices your listing display are "sensible" prices. This demonstrates that you have given it some thought, and those buyers aware of the buyers' fee will be more likely to note that you have reduced your prices. (For example, if you want to buyer to continue to see the price as £10.00, set yours at £8.89 on or immediately before Feb 4)
It also makes your listing less "different" to business listings, which, in the main, will show "sensible" pricing.
For most items over about a fiver, private sellers will still be better off after reducing their prices to offset the fee, than they were before "free to sell" came in, back in October.

Do you think it will end there or is this the thin end of the wedge?
Ebay has wanted Same Day / Next Day dispatch at the latest for years and has been telling me to do that since its warped EDDs started.
It's also tried to cajole private sellers into using Tracked Delivery for years.
My guess is it will be tightening the screws on both as soon as Simple Delivery has been 'accepted'
2 - 3 days will be whittled down and non-tracked deliveries will disappear from the options lists?

@incredible_how wrote:I'll sell some stuff on eBay to buy one... The cheap inkjet printers stop working so quickly and no way to repair, such a huge waste of resources.
With the postie being able to bring a label it's not stressful. It's only if I have a listing to post with Evri that I worry it won't work, but I rarely do.
Get a cheap black/white laser printer. Reliable, no ink blockages, and really low price for the toner/ink running cost. A secondhand one would save the planet, though I'd tend to look only for local collection ones so you can be confident it won't get damaged in transit by a sloppy seller.

Buyers fee has been Vinted m.o from the start...
they do not have MBG
BPF is nothing more than a 24/7 customer service chat.
"Protection" is the MBG
Transactions are secured already.
It offers nothing from what I can see as a " benefit" or " value"

I am passed caring tbh, the fee is coming in whether we like it or not.
It may put buyers off but there will be a lot more that it won't, as as long as they are happy with the price what is the issue? I won't feel ripped off if something is £20 and all other sellers are £25 as long as that seller has good enough feedback the £20 item will get the sale from me or am I expected to not buy at all because I am paying a small that is included in protest against eBay?
Others can look at it how they wish to find fault but at the end of the day it's the price that determines a sale more than anything else.

I can well imagine that is possible. It shouldn't really be possible in terms of resources....

My printer was bought in 2023 and cost £39.98! So you are right about being cheaper to buy one than the cartridges. There are still low cost models still out there and i have seen some in charity shops for £10/20, not sure how long they would last though.

That's because - years ago - the printer manufacturers realised they could make more money being suppliers of ink and toner than they could ever make being printer manufacturers. A person tends to buy one printer and will then continually buy whatever ink/toner they need for it until the printer no longer works. Most ink and laser printers are actually sold at a loss to the manufacturer as they will expect to make their profit on the ink/toner the user will buy during the printer's lifetime.

Sell sell sell, get rid

Thanks for letting us now!
Any ideas on what they will be charging on fees there on?
22-01-2025 7:30 AM
not sure that will happen because if they see the total price when looking and decide they like the item i do not think they will be that bothered about how it is split up. As a buyer i always look for items using the total cost and i am not interested about how it is made up. I never considered in the buyers fee or postage just whether it was worth it to me. Of course i may well be wrong but time will tell on that one.
22-01-2025 7:39 AM
in most cases that is true already unless you sell for £1 maybe. I never go below £3 and a typical example would be one of my jigsaws, £3 for the item and £4.00 for postage (actually £3.85 but i like round figures and every 15p helps pay for the bag, sellotape and wrapping). Charity shops are now in the main £4/5, car boots between £1 - 5 so selling them on e bay is dearer for me. There are buyers though, usually those who cannot or do not want to get out to the shops. Same for the low priced clothes, even at £3 with postage they are about the same price or dearer than charity shops. Some of our local charity shop prices are a bit ridiculous for some of their items. Difference for me is that i can sit here in comfort looking on e bay and apart from the atrocious search engine i more often find the specific item i want.
22-01-2025 7:39 AM
that would be all the e bayers leaving because of the constant changes!

EBAY COULDNT CARE LESS ABOUT PRIVATE SELLERS, THEY ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN THE BIG BOYS, I KNEW SOMETHING WAS COMING WHEN THEY SENT OUT EMAIL SAYING WE COULD SELL FOR FREE!
ABOUT 4/5 YEARS AGO EBAY WAS ALL FOR THE SELLERS, ALWAYS TAKING THEIR SIDE BUT NOW THESE CRAFTY BUYERS KNOW HOW TO PLAY EBAY AND WE THE SELLERS PAY THE PRICE, I HAD A COUPLE OF PEOPLE MOAN THEY HADNT RECEIVED AN ITEM BEFORE CHRISTMAS, I HAD PROOF I SENT IT BUT THE TRACKING WASNT UPDATED BY THE POST OFFICE , SO I HAD TO REFUND OR EBAY WERE GOING TO REFUND THEM WITH MY FUNDS, SO I HAD NO CHOICE, SO AS FAR I I KNOW THEY GOT REFUND AND ITEM
AND EBAY COULDNT CARELESS , THEY WANT PRIVATE BUYERS OFF EBAY BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT ARE TIGTHENING THE RULES ABOUT TAX! PUT YOUR HANDS UP WHO VOTED FOR STARMER!

You're a business so why are you saying eBay don't care about private sellers, are you posting from the wrong account and the unwanted items from around the home you have listed on the other account are being affected by this new fee?
If the item hasn't been scanned then it hasn't been delivered this is how it works, the parcel will be deemed lost and then you claim from the courier.
23-01-2025 3:17 PM
I'm not a business!
