Who else here is planning to close all their listings before midnight on the 4th?

From February 5th it won't be worth it to sell on eBay because of buyer's fees being introduced so on the 4th before midnight I am planning to close all and any items I have up.

Anyone else doing the same?

If eBay want private sellers here they are doing their best to get rid of us.

I will never sell here again(I know I said this before but this time I am out completely).

Well done eBay. RIP eBay, it was good while it lasted.

Who else here is planning to close all their listings before midnight on the 4th?

I’m a 54 year old retired shop assistant living on a smallholding, very rural, on the North coast of Scotland. I have an old-ish ipad for emails, forums, online shopping and storing my knitting patterns. No smartphone (I have a constantly dead novelty ‘retro nokia’ phone for days out) no desktop computer (I’ve never even used a computer for work) and no printer.

So the answer is no -  I’ve never so far needed  to print anything and as for want, no…I can hand write postage or get the postie to bring the label to without ‘Simple Delivery’ what could I possibly want to print?

Sounds idyllic to me 😉

Also agree, we are being pushed to own "electronics" which many do not want or can live without until these " changes"...

Nah, its hard. Especially during ten day long power cuts in the dead of winter. I wouldn’t change it for the world though 😉

Me neither. Waiting for the money is neither here nor there as I never spend it for a month anyway as they can always take it back in the event of a return or non delivery even if you get paid on the day of sale.

I won’t be able to sell when buyer selected shipping comes in.  I live on the northern most tip of mainland Scotland and can only use RM click&drop collection with ‘bring my label’ as I’ve no car, no printer, and no access to any drop off points/parcel shops/lockers as there’s no public transport.

I'm really curious about the no printer folks.  I've had a printer as long as I've had a computer and now have two Brother laserjet (one mono, one colour), do you never want to print anything at all?  I use my printers all the time which is why I switched to laserjet, I can't imagine not being able to print.

Maybe rather than sit at their computer printing stuff all day (think of all that paper :(), they actually have a life!
If I lived on the northern most tip of  Scotland, I doubt that I would be needing a printer either. All that scenery, wildlife and weather to enjoy - and if the weather wasn't too enjoyable, you would find me under a blanket by a real fire, reading. Pretty much my dream life!

We purchased a decent printer/photo copier.    Do we actually use it.....nope.   Saying that my son does very regularly for his work so it is useful 🙂

I don’t know what people print unless its for their work. There’s nothing personal I’ve ever needed a printer for, until these labels, so its not happening.

if private sellers (like me) were using promotions like 70% off fees, it doesn't quite work out.

For low cost items (asa buyer) - I buy postcards and DVDs from private sellers (often several items at a time) - it is going to cost me A Lot more

I only listed with the 70-80% off fvf weekends. I never listed anything with regular fees and I ended items before they automatically renewed. I did reduce my prices when it became free to sell but only by the pence that I use to pay in fees. I am looking at other sites. Already had far more views of my items on gum tree in one day than I get on here in months!

I just closed all my listings because of this and one other thing

Every time I telephone EBay they thank me for my 11 years loyalty, but I just sold something for £2000, and suddenly eBay will not release my money but want me to verify the same bank account I have used for 11 years . They are supposed to be sending micro transactions but surprisingly they have not arrived in my account. I tried to complain but instead received a notification for profanity . I as a matter of principle don’t swear or use racist terms but I did say I was not satisfied by their response and wanted to complain. To receive an email saying my complaint had been investigated, eBay were right and it was now closed !

Just treat small sellers like rubbish. It will be fun to watch them go bankrupt.

Did you not think that fully registering for managed payments and testing it with a low value sale might have been a good idea before selling something of that value?

Just because it's the same account that you have used for 11 years doesn't mean the registration process for MP is skipped.

The profanity might have been the result of them running two words together.

It is standard procedure on a sale of such high value on an account that has a small amount of sales, how do they know you haven't been hacked? Believe it or not it is for your own and eBay's protection.

From the help page.

It can take up to 5 business days for microdeposits to reach your account, and we’ll email you to confirm they’ve arrived. The microdeposits will be withdrawn from your bank account within a few days.

Your item sold on Friday so I guess you tried to withdraw on the Saturday so the microdeposits would be sent from Monday 20 Jan as that is the next business day.

  1. Sign in to Seller Hub - opens in new window or tab or My eBay - opens in new window or tab.
  2. Select the banner to verify your bank account.
  3. Select Verify with microdeposits.
  4. Once they’ve reached your account (3-5 business days), sign in to Seller Hub or My eBay.
  5. Select the banner to verify your bank account and enter the microdeposit amounts.

Originally we purchased it to print the odd Evri label.........after much thought that never happened and we stuck with Royal Mail.  My son uses it 3 times or more a week so it is getting used 🙂    He buys the inks 🙂

I'm hoping that the Simple Delivery is sensible - it's supposed to be there now for clothing but not on my listings or my parents'. There is currently a list of postcodes which can't offer express delivery, mine is included in that. I think it is about 8 miles to the Evri drop off. If I use Evri (useful for large lightweight things) I use collection. We have an aged laser printer that I can use on manual feed, but sometimes it just refuses to work! Left over from when my parents did need it for work. But postie can bring labels if there are problems (including power off during Storm Darragh).

If I have to do Simple Delivery for Royal Mail and the printer is not working, my dispatch time will be longer, as I would go to the Post Office once a week - luckily it's only 2 miles away, but I don't drive and it does cost to go there fuel wise and if the postie is on the round it means less carbon footprint using collection, and not an A4 sheet of paper for one address label

I'll sell some stuff on eBay to buy one... The cheap inkjet printers stop working so quickly and no way to repair, such a huge waste of resources.

With the postie being able to bring a label it's not stressful. It's only if I have a listing to post with Evri that I worry it won't work, but I rarely do.

Not saying this is right but a friend of mine used to buy  a cheap printer and when the original ink ran out,  bought another.  That was cheaper than buying cartridges on their own!

I've decided to be cautious and reduce prices, I am listing like mad things I no longer want and I will see how it all pans out.

I have concerns.

Money not released until two days after delivery (14 days if untracked)

Buyer fees from ebay could put sellers off

and the worst of all I feel is giving sellers control over postage.  As we have no idea how this is going to work.

Do what's right for you!

There is one company at least that will give you a free printer if you buy a certain number of ink cartridges (typically three but there are different offers). IJT Direct. (I have no connection apart from as a customer though I haven't tried any free printer offers.)

Buyers purchase based on price, If I want something that you're selling and I like how you have priced it you have got a sale, a fee won't be putting me off.

What is putting me off is the sellers that have started saying in their descriptions that their prices are on going up on 4 Feb because there is a new eBay fee being added and it's them who are to blame so buy now before the increase.
