Who Is Responsable when simple delivery goes wrong

Morning. I have just sent a item well packed and placed fragile stickers on the box. The buyer has been difficult already before the item has even arrived.  Threatening me with opening a dispute against me because one delivery attempt failed because the courier had no safe place to leave the item.  The following day, they delivered the item, and what a surprise I had in the morning with photos of the item damaged. Of course the buyer is rude and furious and blaming me and accusing me of all sorts. So I had no choice in making a return for a damaged and now a non working item. Also this buyer lives in the U.K, but their ebay profile say they live in Canada. Any ideas and thank you for your time.

I will definitely keep you informed, eBay will decide by the 26th. I have used Simple Delivery since it was forced upon us and I must admit I have until now had no issues, however if this is not dealt with correctly how could I risk selling anything costing more than a few pound again. Just cannot afford to lose £170 when it is not my fault and certainly would only sell on here as a last resort. Perhaps eBay will act correctly and restore my faith in Simple Delivery.

Re: Who Is Responsable when simple delivery goes wrong

I sent a message yesterday to the buyer. Why did you select That the item doesn't match the description or photos.  The answer I got was it arrived damaged and some of the buttons don't work. Then I mentioned again, and took a screen shot of the list, then why didn't you select the item arrived damaged ? I have No response. Screenshot 2026-01-24 11.30.53.png

Re: Who Is Responsable when simple delivery goes wrong

Does that screenshot relate to your actual sale?  If so, are you sure that you used a Simple Delivery label?

Only because there isn't an option there to select damaged during delivery. Your screenshot seems to be of an item that was sent outside Simple Delivery. It should show this or, if using the app, I believe there's a damaged in transit option:

Q1. I doubt it - Wizzard says they took the screenshot, which they couldn't for an item they sold.

Of course, total mind blip there, too much coffee! 😀

However, if the OP's item was sent SD then the buyer should have seen a different version of those options to select from.

The item that you bought - was it via a Simple Delivery label?

Re: Who Is Responsable when simple delivery goes wrong

Yes there is a delivery label, which has gone through Yodel. But that label does not have simple delivery on it. I have sent items with Royal mail which has simple delivery on it

If the label has Yodel on it then it won't have been sent via Simple Delivery.  Inpost who now own Yodel are part of Simple Delivery but not the Yodel service itself.

Re: Who Is Responsable when simple delivery goes wrong

It doesn't look like i'm going to get any where with this. I've received item back with even more damage to it which it can't be repaired. I sent a report on the case, but wants me to refund the buyer. I've had to go and Report Buyer for false returns. So I had to pay out a return on a damaged item, and the buyer will get their money back + postage

Re: Who Is Responsable when simple delivery goes wrong

Thanks for replies to my initial post. eBay resolved the case in my favour although buyer listed the incorrect reason for the return. eBay refunded the buyer because I sent the well packed parcel using Simple Delivery. A just result.  I must say well done to eBay on this occasion.

Thanks each and everyone who contributed to this topic. Shows how important it is for buyers who wish to return an item to select the correct reason.
