Went to list something just now and the post service options have completely changed since yesterday. I usually list with free post (I then select yodel as that's my nearest/best priced drop off centre), but there's no option to offer free post. I'm forced to list with *whatever* ebay has chosen, which might be a service miles away from me making post a nightmare. Why why why mess about with this when it was working fine.... (I have my own ideas of why it was changed, you can guess my thoughts...)

Its still optional at the moment so you should be able to change it to custom post when you list and choose your own postage.

My 87 year old friend is in a right state trying to change the postage to normal uses RM £1 for a knitting pattern and they are saying £2.70. Plus she has a load of stamps to use up. I have given up listing so if anyone can tell me how she can find custom post i can pass it on to her

Just went through the process of listing an item on the ebay app to see if something has changed and yes, it came up with Simple Delivery in the 'Postage set-up' section. I tapped on 'Simple Delivery' and an option came up for 'Custom postage' and selected that.
I could then list as normal i.e. specifying the postal/courier service and choosing whether I or the buyer pay the postage, can still select 'free postage' for the buyer.

Ah that's what i needed to know for a friend thanks

Yeah I've figured it out now - initially looked like I was being forced to use whichever service ebay decided, choosing advanced options was useless but going on I did get the choose custom option. Still seems a pointless update, actually adding an extra step for me when listing on the desktop when the old system worked perfectly. Oh well, I dare say something else will change in a month or 2... it's like folks at ebay empire need to do *something* to the platform to justify their existence!

Will be mandatory maybe as soon as next month so that finishes me, not listing any more now

Same problem with me I'm mobility disabled and housebound, rely on Royal Mail to collect my sales parcels from home.
Went to print a label for a buyer this evening and no option to choose either size, weight, courier or Royal Mail - gone! Called an Ebay agent and they advised the buyer chooses postage options now. Anyway the new 'Simple Delivery' service is not so simple. My buyer chose Evri! Never used them before. No button to chose a home collection either. So went to Evri website and home collections unavailable for me in this area.
I can see that if buyers have to guess weight, size etc there will be incorrect charges, also it excludes disabled people that have no one to go to a parcel drop point too. Plus this new buyer protection thing is bumping up sale prices, if I list for 99p, people looking at Ebay see £1.75. A lot of my items are sold as cheap 99p clothes. Not viable for me to sell anymore.
Plus Gov. want me to pay tax on my junk to. Can't even have a side hustle anymore to boost me pathetic pension. Winter fuel allowance stopped, so cold poor and housebound and feeling very low.

I am in the same position have to have RM collections, i don't think Evri collect at all now they have drop off points and i can't drive or walk far. I have just sold something and it's still how i put it RM 2nd class letter. The buyer does not choose the carrier they have a choice of standard and express and a bot chooses the carrier from the experiences i have heard about. I'm not buying anything here now to find out exactly what is going on. I buy from RM click and collect site am not going to use Ebay labels

When you list anything you have to chose custom postage and then YOU chose Royal Mail
sue ofmoarcell and weight etc and you can buy your own labels and get parels collected , just like before
as to the government you won’t get taxed for selling second hand personal possessions
ps yes they were mean to Nick money off pensioners
They started as they meant to go on , but let’s not get into politics here

Yep, when listing choose custom postage and you can define your courier. Another way around this which I use is the majority of my listings include postage, this is an incentive to buy as there's no inflated postage fee as a secondary profit whilst it allows the seller to ship with whoever is the most convenient/best price at time of sale - a buyer can hardly complain about shipping when it's free (even though some do, this being ebay).

Have managed to chat with a real person at customer services and they confirmed you can still opt out of simple delivery and choose your own postage option but can ONLY do this in the browser, not using the app on a phone and have to do it each and every time you create a new listing. I’ve always found the app relatively quick and easy to use for listing items but this extra layer of faff will make selling small low value items hardly worth the extra effort.

Just goes to show the customer service agent is talking out of their backside
i use the app I can chose custom postage
25-03-2025 10:23 PM
That’s interesting - it changed at some point today so have you tried listing on the app this evening? The option has gone off my app but it shows when I log in using a browser on my phone

I just did a dummy new listing
custom postage was available
25-03-2025 10:27 PM
Ok thanks for checking - sounds like there’s lots of irregularities in the rolling out of the ‘new features’ all round
25-03-2025 10:38 PM
You don’t say
lol
i was thinking I was going mad
one minute I was revising a listing and it wasn’t revising it but changing it back to what eBay thought it should be sold for
next minute I listed something and there was no custom postage then there was
it’s all up sh I t creek at the moment
all sensible people are not bothering till they sort their s h it out

You can still use the postage you want use at the moment. I am sending screenshot but it will only let me send one st a time!

Unfortunately Ebay piloted ‘Simple Delivery’ last year meaning they choose a courier and guess the weight and dimensions, customer service agents don’t appear to be up to speed on this and can only listen to complaints not solve!
