What do you consider designer?

I am just wondering what is officially considered designer these days?

According to some people, designer tends to be an item that comes with a higher-end price tag. However, to others it can be of lower value, as long as it falls into a certain named brand.

I don't want to mislead any customers, however I don't want to downplay the items I sell. Does anyone know the rule of thumb when it comes to determining designer?

Thank you in advance, Jenny's wardrobe

I think designer items have to be a brand with a recognised designer attached to it, usually named for the designer.

Re: What do you consider designer?

To me, designer would be a luxury high end brand with a reputation for being unique, featuring good quality components and workmanship.

Brands that I'd say designer are Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Chanel, Gucci, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabanna etc.

Pieces can be high or low value, you can pick up a t-shirt or belt by any of the above, it would still be 'designer'.

Re: What do you consider designer?

Thank's for your input. Would you consider Lipsy to be a designer brand? I have some shoes I'm selling, but I don't know if I can advertise it as designer?

Re: What do you consider designer?

Thank you very much. Those brands I'd definitely consider designer. How about Lipsy, is that designer or just a brand? I'm selling Lipsy shoes I'm not too sure about the description I can add.

Re: What do you consider designer?

Lipsy isn't designer, it's a brand.

As mentioned earlier, a designer brand is one that's headed by a designer, there's always a name there.
