VAT glitch?

I buy from business and private sellers.  All purchases show that they include buyer protection, but a fee is charged on purchases from private sellers, and VAT is payable on the fees.  As we all know.

So far in July I'm also paying VAT at 20% on the postage element of the order, but only on clothing items.

I presume this is as glitch, so I'm wondering if this is common knowledge.  I could call eBay but the thought of having to talk to at least one person, possibly more, with little chance of getting the approximately £1.50 refund, well, when you're as close as I am to my three score years and ten, hours are too precious to waste!

This, however, could be very serious -  I'm sure that there have been thousands of clothing sales by private sellers in July.  And, of course, this glitch could have been around before July.

Easy for buyers to miss as well, as there is no breakdown of VAT charges.

It's not a glitch, it's ebay charging VAT on vatable services they provide.  It is not VAT on the goods themselves.

VAT glitch?

Royal Mail's tracked 24/48 include vat at the current rate (20%) this will be the element you see, against the postage.

Its not brilliantly worded/laid out but it is correct.
