I’m a member for 14 years - I have today complained fiercely to EBay with regards to 4% + 75p charge on each item purchased as we all know this is a Back Door way of recovering the Seller Fees which were scrapped recently - Buyers already have adequate protection - as to payment 2 days after delivery - we’re at the mercy of Royal Mail to scan all items when collected (not guaranteed) 😡
Fellow members I urge you to let your disproval known - SHAME ON YOU Ebay😡😡

That advice by ebay is about Capital Gains Tax, a tax that is highly unlikely to apply to private sellers on ebay, especially as any private seller would be foolish to sell something on here that would come under the CGT regime (sold for over £6,000).
The guidance is correct as long as Ben is selling his collection as a job lot in one sale, i.e as a single asset, which is not entirely clear, particularly as it says 'annual ebay sales (plural) . The implication is that Ben is selling a 'set' which is why it is potentially subject to CGT if the gain was enough, which it isn't. There is a lot of information missing from that highly simplified example.
It has no relevance to the selling of a collection piecemeal (individual assets), however, these sales would not be subject to either income tax or CGT as long as they didn't sell any one item from the collection for over £6,000 and make over £3,000 profit on it (and hence be subject to CGT).
So a seller getting rid of their collection and selling it piece by piece only has CGT to contend with and selling something on here for over £6,000 would not be recommended anyway.
What did you think Ben's story meant for private sellers?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Stick to the topic of upcoming buyers fees.
This isn’t a thread for bickering about a completely different topic .
You are all determined to have the last word and are behaving like spoilt argumentative babies, spoiling an interesting thread and wasting everyone’s time.
If you have a point to raise about a different topic, start your own.
Such childish trolling from so called adults.

I agree...

Perhaps you would consider opening a new thread about this ( CGT) so people who are concerned could follow?

Like other people I am not standing for the stupid new changes and outta here.
And I certainly won't be buying from eBay business sellers in the future if this is how they all are.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Stick to the topic of upcoming buyers fees.
There is nothing left to say, they are coming in on the 4th Feb, we know how it they will be calculated, we know that payments are changing and we know that many sellers say they will leave.
We could ask for all the threads to be closed as done to death?

I have been following this tread (since I posted on it the other week) and nothing I have read has change my mind about this eBay fee/postage/policy change etc. (I have been ignoring all the off-topic postings)
I do not want accept eBay’s policy of holding on to my money for two weeks, (if an item is not sent as tracked) it’s an utter disgrace and open to abuse.
I have cancelled and removed some of my sale items, duplicated them all on to Discogs (I mainly sell vinyl for a hobby) and at the end of Jan 2025 I will end most of my listings on eBay.
I will leave few items for sale, to see if anything still sells.
I know I am only 1 out of millions of users, but if everyone does the same thing, maybe eBay will have a re-think.
My few listings that will be left, I will be increasing the postage cost to “Royal Mail Tracked/Signed For” and I will be adding some text in the description that it is eBays fault that their policy has made me increase postage costs and that the item is also now more expensive due to buyer fee’s
Over the past week I have seen items that I had “watches” on, have suddenly sold/been bought. Plus I have noticed a large drop in new items being listed on eBay.
I agree with what someone else said that “Ebay is now driving away its genuine private sellers which is a pity as most are buyers as well; “ I guess all good things come to end.
Going forward, Discogs will be getting all my records/CDs for sale.

simple answer, stop making comments then and no one would respond! About time the moderators stepped in and ended the thread anyway, its getting all a bit too personal with some of the comments.

You don't want me sticking up for private sellers? Hmm... I wonder who's side you're really on as you pick on me for merely trying to put the witch hunting trolls to rest, and only replying back to them to put them right.
You can clearly see here how the corrupt operate and have others working for them pretending to be bystanders.
Alright, I'll turn the other way and give all those who want to be against me the same treatment as they've been giving people here like I did Bufter or whoever they were selling tons of brand new boxed Funko Pop trash.
I shall check through all naysayers listings like papso22 does to make sure you're not all hypocrites with I dunno 750 pound of sales and piles of the same brand new expensive jumpers in different sizes arguing against people oddly... like yourselves!?
Folk are odd, and as I said before ungrateful.
Now maybe you will shut up after I have wanted to shut up several times but people keep trying their luck after they think I'm gone.

I spent some time doing the maths today regarding these buyer fees. The overall percentage buyers will be paying added on does not get down to 10% unless an item price is at £12.50 or above. I thought 10% or less might be acceptable to a buyer but over 10% might seem too unreasonable. I'm undecided but if I was to continue using ebay then anything below £12.50 I would probably remove from sale.
