Well..Like many a casual Ebay seller for years. Today listed my iPhone 15 and intended to sell the same and send by special delivery to who ever wins it... No way on this earth can I list it like that.. so I have simply added in the listing body of description how buyer will receive it, free postage, sent by Royal mail SD and require a signature other end.. what ever genius thought this SD up.. should be in government !

You’ve told us that it’s important to know you’ll be paid shortly after a buyer places an order, and we’ve listened. Starting from 6 Aug, you’ll receive your funds in your eBay balance within 24 hours of the buyer paying. This will automatically apply for orders completed after 6 Aug, so there’s nothing you need to do.

If you list the item free postage, you will be charged for a Simple Delivery label, even if you don't want one!
If you don't use the Simple Delivery label, because you want to use RM Special Delivery postage, you can apply for a refund for the unused Simple Delivery label within 14 days of the sale of the item.

The seller can apply certainly.
I've not done it, so don't have any experience of it, but it seems possible that-
The seller gets the SD label refund.
The seller gets a response saying you should've used Simple Delivery and no refund.
The seller doesn't get a refund nor a response.
Perhaps at the moment, in this "introductory period" there may be some leeway, but what would be the point in making SD mandatory if everyone just avoided it and asked for label refunds?
I'm not suggesting you know the answer to the above questions, I just think it's worth mentioning that there is no guarantee the seller will get a label refund, especially as they've avoided SD on something which could be sent SD.

You've got Free Delivery so can buy your own RM Special Delivery label at your local PO and then add the tracking number.
From eBay guidance:
If you don't use the Simple Delivery label provided, you or your buyer will be refunded, depending on who paid for postage.
To process your refund, we'll verify the following:
If your request meets all these conditions, you'll receive a refund for the shipping cost.

Yes I noticed we can't choose postage with signed on delivery either which is ridiculous as the posties/evri leave parcels anywhere they like. A signature is needed! I always used that option when I was doing my own postage for buyers!

True, but this page says the below. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre/postage/simple-delivery
"If you choose to purchase your own delivery label separately, you’ll have to cover the cost."
I've previously told people about the option to get the Simple Delivery label refunded, but only for items which can't be sent Simple Delivery.

Your pathetic "Simple Delivery" isn't wanted. The business you gain from contracts with couriers will be lost to sellers who jump ship. Which 6 year old economist did you hire to do the math? Leave my listings alone.
