Simple Delivery

Is Simple Delivery mandatory now ? used to be able to select custom postage option but it’s not available now. Just tried listing and Simple Delivery is the only option for postage

Re: Simple Delivery

I just can't find a way to turn off Simple Postage.  On this occasion I need to add recorded delivery and just can't find a way to do it.  Very fed up.  I just hope EBay is following these comments.

Re: Simple Delivery

I think that you will they are snooping….as they are closing all the
loopholes people had discovered ! It is a joke if they think we regard
this as a safe space …it is not. Be careful out there.

Re: Simple Delivery

Apart from the categories that aren't eligible, there is no way to turn off Simple Delivery... if you want to use a recorded delivery service, you would have to 'ignore' the Simple Delivery label, and buy your own postage, elsewhere

Then you would have to replace the Simple tracking number with your own tracking number, and apply for a refund for the unused Simple label. Unless your buyer paid for the Simple label - then they would receive the refund.

Unfortunately, as far as eBay is concerned recorded delivery (Signed For) is not required as they provide full cover, at no cost to the seller, against items lost in transit.

Re: Simple Delivery

It's pretty grim, isn't it? There's a long queue of sellers still awaiting refunds for unused SD labels after upgrading the postage to a recorded service or Special Delivery.

Sadly, the thinking seems to be you either USE the SD label or you LOSE, as either the buyer gets the refund or Ebay does. Either way, Seller pays.

Re: Simple Delivery

Ah - but when you look at your order details, you find that the full
delivery address is NOT shown - until you get the pre-paid label !! So you
can't just ignore SD.

Re: Simple Delivery

From the order details page you should see a print invoice option. I don't have a printer but click on it. This enables you to download the order details and see the address. This is possible on my tablet anyway.

I can’t imagine many people need Special Delivery for an ebay purchase: it starts at £8.15 for just a 100g letter! Recorded Delivery hasn’t existed for years. There is Signed (2nd Class Small Parcel £4.85), but I've been using Tracked 48 for nearly everything (worth more than a few pounds, and where I still have custom postage), and it provides enough tracking for ebay to pay out promptly. The only item I’ve sold with SD so far went by Tracked 48 (and very easily, I found, to my surprise).

Re: Simple Delivery

I think if it is a fragile and/or pricier, or 'one-off' item, some sellers like to know the item will be handed to the recipient & signed for, rather than left in a porch, or 'safe place', from where it could be stolen - or claimed to be stolen...

Even if eBay cover you for loss or damage, it would be better to have the option of a service which eliminates as much risk as possible, where more valuable items are concerned.

Re: Simple Delivery

Buyers will often ask for it. Once they've bought something incredibly rare or valuable you'd be surprised how often get quite attached to it!

Unless you're saying Ebay isn't the place for those things any more?

Re: Simple Delivery

To continue this saga..... I've got my order ready to post to the customer - on Sunday the 24th August, and that's well before the 29th when eBay say I must dispatch by. So I clicked to get the pre-paid label, and was astonished to see the message that I must post the item by the 23rd! The day before! Now, I can't post on Sunday - nor Monday, which is a bank holiday - so I'm going to post on Tuesday the 25th, still in time to meet the original deadline.

I'm totally fed up with all this fuss.

I'm going to try one last time, creating a listing with free delivery, and see if I can bypass the simple delivery option that way, and if it works, I'll just have to add the p&p price to my item prices, but honestly, if it doesn't then I'm finished with eBay.

Re: Simple Delivery

Nope - it doesn't work. Offer free delivery, and you still only get pre-paid simple delivery as the postage option.

Another thing I've seen - on one of my listings, they've put the simple delivery cost as actually less than the amount that RM say is standard for a small parcel, so if I used that and tried to post it in a box, the Post office wouldn't accept it.

That's it. I'm done. No more eBay listings for me. Stuff 'em.

Re: Simple Delivery

Re date discrepancy, I noticed exactly the same. I was on three day turnround and printed the label on the second day but already out of date. Still it was acceptable at the post office.

Re: Simple Delivery

Thanks. Anyway, I have sent an email to eBay telling them that I have removed all my listings, and explaining the reason (simple delivery). I suggest that all of us who are unhappy about this should do the same. If they get a flood of complaints, they may change back, but it's a long shot.

Re: Simple Delivery

Incidentally - it's not easy to find how to send an email to eBay, but I found out how - go to https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/account/contacting-ebay-customer-service/contact-ebay?id=4379&st=3&pos=1... and scroll down till you see "How to get in touch with eBay" and click on :

Re: Simple Delivery

Simple Delivery costs are different to standard RM and Evri costs. They are negotiated specific rates for this service.

Re: Simple Delivery

Best to get a callback first thing in the morning from Dublin. On the SD labels I print there is no mention of postage costs and the Post office staff have been told not to measure or weigh the parcels. Yes it is a contract between Ebay and Royal mail.

Re: Simple Delivery

"Post office staff have been told not to measure or weigh the parcels."

Obviously this message has not got though to sub-post offices.  I've had an item refused as it was too large and comment made on another that the postage paid was far too much (marked as small parcel and would easily have been large letter). Our postmaster ALWAYS weighs items  whether prepaid or not, and if any kind of letter puts them through the gauge - 1mm too fat and he charges the next level.

Tell him/her to read their own website:

(Does not apply for other types of prepaid labels.)

Re: Simple Delivery

Ebay told me to ask to speak to the manager if my parcel was refused and if still refused to go back to them. However they did query it but accepted it when told that Ebay had arrangements with Royal Mail. It was delivered with no issue and no extra postage to pay.
