Simple Delivery

Is Simple Delivery mandatory now ? used to be able to select custom postage option but it’s not available now. Just tried listing and Simple Delivery is the only option for postage

Re: Simple Delivery

That is what I have done, but people keep saying that ebay can override that if size and weight don't match (and I was replying to a comments from andha-21). I spoke to someone a week or more back and he said cancel the sale if that happens - cite something wrong with address...

Re: Simple Delivery

That will work well...disgruntled buyers as well as sellers!

@incredible_how

Yes, when they announced Sellers could choose courier, there was a second simultaneous announcement regarding their ability to override the sellers choice.

That was then added straight into terms and conditions.

That doesn't mean they will override every time. It does mean they can whenever they want to though.

& as it looks like money is their big aim, it's a safe bet that their override clause is designed to help them with those goals.

Re: Simple Delivery

I think the purpose of the override is to work the other way around. I appreciate it could be used to promote Evri, but really it is there just in case buyers  select Evri for an area they don't deliver to. RM deliver everywhere.

Do you really think Ebay have put enough thought into this to be coming up with an intricate plan to squeeze every last penny out of sellers that way? I mean if they wanted more money they could just have put seller fees up or just stopped the 70 or 80% discounts. Much simpler, much less confusion, software rewriting and little to go wrong.

Ebay haven't even thought as far ahead as the next RM strike on this one. The whole thing is rushed, badly thought out, poorly communicated and not even implemented in full yet, but that is all. Lets face it, they couldn't come up with a conspiracy and implement it, could they?

So why do they allow sellers to deselect Royal Mail?

Normally I'd say no, but there are multiple elements in Simple Delivery that individually look like traps and taken together it looks like they built this new private seller platform on quicksand. A special gift for us.

I'm far from an eBay cheerleader but there are some incredibly smart/sneaky elements in Simple Delivery and considering how many areas of it have been covered in terms and conditions it looks like their legal department have had a bigger involvement with this side of the rollout & they won't be remotely concerned with what's easier. Complicated and convoluted will be their preferred method of communication as that allows them to trap people that don't read properly.

Alot of people come with the not thought through angles, but that is based off your/our perspectives as sellers/buyers. Sure, we can all see the potential problems.

But if it's designed specifically to create problems, then that has been thought through and it is a very clever trap.

This whole thing is perspective dependent.

I think things are being lost in translation here which is why I keep reposting similar wording.

I think you need to tread very carefully with their new systems, because taken as a whole it looks a near perfect system for guaranteeing that private sellers lose, completely.

Their terms and conditions and caveats allow them to toy with us for sport, if they so desire.

Re: Simple Delivery

On another fun note. Making an offer on a buy it now item is currently down. The fun workaround suggested was to pay full price and get the seller to refund the difference lol.. Joke

It beggars belief! Why don't they just take the whole site down and start again (and of course cancel Buyer Protection Fee and Simple Delivery and reinstate seller fees)?

Re: Simple Delivery

Has anyone used Simple Delivery to post to or buy from Northern Ireland, Isle of Mann or the Channel Islands. The Post Office delivers at standard UK mainland rates to these areas, but some couriers charge them at overseas rates. Also do we need to put customs declarations on stuff being sent between these areas

Re: Simple Delivery

I guess this is when ebay would change the courier but it will only affect those who have evri only.
I've only had to fill in a form for Channel Islands

Re: Simple Delivery

Just had my first experience of the new eBay systems.

Bought a small item for £1.99. Charged 80p on top for 'buyer protection' and £2.70 for tracked postage.
Total - £5.49 for an item that last year would probably have been £1.99 + 85p 2nd class postage = £2.84

Posted on 14/4 as 'tracked 48' - arrived 5 days later on 19/4. 2nd class would probably have been quicker.

EBay badgering for feedback before the thing was even delivered.

Aren't 'buyer protection' and 'simple delivery' wonderful!? Going great so far, eBay!

Re: Simple Delivery

I simply refuse to buy on ebay any more.I was looking for a product and saw it on ebay and then went to the sellers own site and got the item for £8.00 cheaper.

Re: Simple Delivery

So it's now the 19th April, well past the 15th and the option for custom delivery is still there for me when I want to list a new item or for my currently listed items. Seems bizarre, how it's been rolled out.

Even the £1.99 may be a bad deal if the seller had not lowered their price from when they had to pay a  seller's fee. I didn't do that when the seller's fee was abolished, as the buyer was not suffering, but I am now slowly lowering my prices to counteract the 'Buyer Protection' Fee and remain competitive.

And why did Ebay do this to postage for Large Letters just when Royal lowered the rates for two 2nd Class weight ranges and didn't raise the other two?!

Re: Simple Delivery

The Buddha might know the answer to that

forcing sellers to charge 2.70 when they don’t force them if their item goes in a small envelope even when item costs the same

why do large letter items need tracking and therefore higher costs. What’s the high risk for a large letter? Anyone know ? Doubt it

maybe eBay has an answer ..so announce it ? Please
