Simple Delivery

Is Simple Delivery mandatory now ? used to be able to select custom postage option but it’s not available now. Just tried listing and Simple Delivery is the only option for postage

Re: Simple Delivery

And fortunately, eBay don't appear to have realised that any loss or damage in transit will be their responsibility, as we are now paying them as an agent to manage all aspects of the shipping.

If you need to take a matter to the county court for loss in transit, it will be ebay who are the defendant, as you have no direct relationship with the courier anymore, no VAT receipt from them, etc.

Your job will simply be to drop it off at whichever courier ebay decide to make you use, whereby your legal responsibility ends when it is handed over to ebay's delivery partner to ship, and once ebay confirm with their delivery partner that the item has been delivered they will then release the payment later.

If ebay don't pay you because the customer has an issue around ebay's delivery, then immediately take them to court and win.

Re: Simple Delivery

So atm if i list something new i can select advanced options. Im guessing on the 7th this will change for all my new and existing listings then?

Also from what i read ebay can ignore this if i set it and use Evri without my permission to do so? If this is the case then think thats its for me here on Ebay tbh

Re: Simple Delivery

You've already given them permission to do so by using the site. That's how their terms and conditions work.

& yes, when they decided to give sellers a choice they also gave themselves a backdoor to override it.

Re: Simple Delivery

Wow....just wow..... Surely there has to be some competition law they breaking here?

Oh well its been fun Ebay if you decide to change your mind in future and become sensible again i might come back as this probably is the end for most private sellers now

Re: Simple Delivery

I don't get the difference between 7th April and 15th April.  The email starts by saying that Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available from 15th April, but later on it says that Simple Delivery is going to be applied from 7th April.  Also, I thought they had to give 30 days notice of a change to T&Cs.  If I don't find anywhere else to sell, my stuff will either go to a local auction house or to charity shops once Simple Delivery starts.  Calling it "simple" is double-speak, and that doesn't go down well with me either.  From reading the other posts as well, it all stinks.

Re: Simple Delivery

I've used e-bay for many years both as a buyer and a seller but making Simple Delivery compulsory will stop me from selling anymore. I'm lucky that both the Evri parcelshop and the Post Office are not too far from me so I usually use Evri for parcels up to 1kg then Royal Mail for anything 1-2kgs (providing the parcel meets Royal Mail small parcel size) as Royal Mail is cheaper then Evri for that weight band.  So if I have two parcels falling in the 1-2 kg weight band, one small enough to send as a Royal Mail small parcel and one that is too big so has to go by Evri how is Simple Delivery going to work that one out. Also what happens if a buyer buys two 'buy it now' items , pays for them then asks for combined postage as happened to me this weekend. The existing system made it easy to sort out, the combined weight of both items still fell into the same weight band as one item so I simply packed the items together,  paid for and printed off one label and refunded the buyer the cost of the second postage. As the Simple Delivery system automatically generates the labels then it would charge for and generate two labels, one of which wasn't needed. Likewise if the combined weight had gone over the 1kg I would have switched from Evri to Royal Mail but the Simple Delivery system would not give me the option to chose.

Sorry e-bay, this is all becoming far too controlling for me. I have a mind of my own and like to have the choice to use it, not be dictated to.

Re: Simple Delivery

Thanks - we are in agreement. Just re-listed 60 items. All the smaller letter size increased price by 33>66%. All the larger or heavier items were priced too low and rediculous. Eg a Bentley wheel weighing some 14Kg and larger than 61cm was listed as medium parcel rate up to 2Kg at around £2.70, some £14 less than the Parcelforce cost. Equally a vintage inverter was listed as a few quid, I had it as collection only as it weighs some 50Kg and needs a pallet truck to move it. Instead of doing bulk re-listing on sections which previously took less than 15 minutes I have had to relist everyone individually to adjust the carriage costs taking over an hour. As you say, will have to rethink how to clear out my 50+ year collections. Peter

Re: Simple Delivery

I have been convinced for some time that ebay is not interested in combined postage, with the emphasis on free postage, this convinces me - and that affects me as a buyer as well as a seller.

Re: Simple Delivery

Agreed, I have just re-listed some 60 items and only one - a piano for collection only - did not revert to SimDel, including a couple of other collection only items. All low cost and letter delivery increased 33>66% whereas larger heavier items were mainly underpriced, eg a Bentley wheel at 14Kg and over 45cm dia so Parcelforce £17.95 offered equivalent to medium parcel up to 5Kg I think, some £14+ less. What would happen if the item was bought and SimDel paid for, how do I send it? Peter

I would never trust ebay to get the postage right, as I often don't know the size or weight myself until I have packed the item.

And the annoying thing about letting the buyer choose the delivery method if they are paying, is that, with items whose postage I can predict, I price them so that the price + postage is an attractive figure, like £9.99, but that won't work any more. (I'm already having to precalculate the Buyer Protection Fee in order to set a base price that arrives at an attractive total.)

Re: Simple Delivery

Listed an item with simple delivery, having changed my simple delivery options to royal mail only, when making the listing I see £2.74 (rather than £2.70 because I dn't offer Evri aswell, because a 16 mile round trip to drop off).

THEN I've looked at the lising not signed in and the postage is only £2.24 and there is no buyer protection added so coming up with the odd price I set it up) but in the basket: seller fee included and postage is £2.74

This is a mess.

Re: Simple Delivery

I don't quite understand your method - I weigh and measure everything first so I can put the correct postage down for the seller. If you don't know that information before listing you can't put correct postage? Or do you include postage and hope it's covered (if that is the case then the buyers/your customers are paying the 4% on the postage too)

The exception is in fact for "low-priced, bulky items", and I haven't seen their definition of "bulky" either.

Re: Simple Delivery

Simple delivery does not take into account the cost of packaging materials so we as sellers lose out.
