Royal Mail Parcel Collection

One of the concerns expressed by some private sellers about the forthcoming Ebay Simple Delivery (if it is compulsory) is whether it will be possible to book collection of the parcel from your house.

Doing a little bit of research, it appears to me that it is possible to book collections when you have bought RM postage elsewhere, or where you are using a return label. It looks to me as if one will have to download an app to do it. I can live with that.

It does give you Royal Mail options in the drop down box. I use Royal Mail for all my posting and they collect it from me. They charge 30p for collection. My concern is that you will have to buy tracked postage which is more expensive and many of my items, especially cheaper ones don’t warrant the extra cost of tracking. I offer free posting on all my items but if I have to use the tracking service I wouldn’t make anything on my smaller sales items. Any suggestions would be useful. I’m disabled and can’t get to the post office to buy postage there but I don’t know if that would be allowed anyway.

I'm using it today by clicking on the icon to 'book collection' in the 'Get Prepaid Label' section. However, I've no idea if it's worked as nothing has happened, no confirmation and no tracking no. 

What do I do, simply hope Royal Mail turn up tomorrow with my label???

If they don't, then my parcel will be late.

Plus I've paid more than I should as parcel weighs less than I anticipated and you can't alter it once it's been processed on eBay.

Royal Mail have refused to pick up eBay’s simple delivery items for free so the book collection is a very misleading piece of information from eBay.Once the label is generated you will have to book your own collection on the royal mail website with the tracking number on the label.This costs us sellers £0.30 pence per item which eBay  don’t care about.

Have just discovered this. Completed a Royal Mail collection for Simple Delivery and the form actually said could arrange for collection for free. I also arranged a private parcel collection for same day paying postage including 30p. My parcel was picked up and  label printed. The ebay one was left in my porch! Returning to the orders on account despatch was not mentioned and no ability to arrange a printed label on collection so had to print one off and pay 30p to get collection. 30p isnt a deal breaker but the inability to pay it before meant the parcel wasnt picked up. Naturally ebay CS was useless but said the parcel had been despatched and no late despatch strike!  I said the parcel was still here. After 2 CS agents the issue is outstanding and i gave up. Royal Mail return tomorrow...............
