Return request - "Just don't like it"

I'm hoping someone can help me with a return request I've just had. I sold some sheet music for a small amount, buyer has received it today and immediately asked to return giving the reason "just didn't like it". There is absolutely nothing wrong with the book.

My question is, do I have to accept it? And if so, do I have to pay the return postage? The item was only for a small amount but if I have to pay to get it back as well as give a full refund, there really isn't any point in getting it back. I'm pretty sure I stipulate 'no returns' on all my listings as well, I certainly put it in the blurb.

However as a matter of principle I really don't see why I should be out of pocket with this.

Can anyone advise what my options are?

Many thanks

You don't have to accept a change of mind return as you are a private seller and have no returns stated on your listings.

If you do get a neg, then appeal it as there was nothing wrong with the goods, just buyer remorse.

If the buyer has used one of the 'change of mind' reasons for the return, and you had no returns on the listing, then you will have the option to refuse the return and close the case.

If that option is not there then you can either refund without a return or issue a returns label and refund on return.

I wonder what would happen if you bought a book from a  high street  bookshop - read it and then retuned it saying you did not like it, and you wanted your money back

Return request - "Just don't like it"

Thank you for your response. As a matter of principle I want to refuse this request but obviously I don't want to get negative feedback. If I don't have the option to refuse and have to accept it, is there an option that the buyer pays at least the cost of postage for returning it?

Yes, return postage is paid by the Buyer when they select 'didn't like it' or 'changed my mind' as the reason. So if you accept they will pay return P&P.

The buyer has to pay for the postage for change of mind returns. Seller only pays for items not as described.

You will have to refund in full though so you will be refunding the original postage too.

Food for thought as who knows if they photocopied the music??

Bricks and mortar businesses do not have to accept remorse returns. They may have policies in place to accept or give vouchers.  It would be interesting to know about the polices bookshops have though as I bet they have experienced buyers trying to return books after they have read them.

Get it all the time as a business seller and drives me nuts. One even said "it exploded" and i said i'd refund and he asked for a replacement instead. Eh....clearly didn't explode then.

Yes, eBay really need to sort this out! A few weeks ago I sold a Vinyl album in perfect condition, a week later the buyer wanted to return it , reason?........`I did`nt like it`. This is a crazy reason for a return and refund! In my opinion ebay should not allow this as a reason for a return. As others have said would anyone buy a book from a shop , read it, and then return it for their money back, with the excuse `I did`nt like it`.

' In my opinion ebay should not allow this as a reason for a return'.

If that were to happen, the item not as described returns would increase and then seller would end up paying for the return postage. It's easy to say 'there was a microscopic mark which wasn't mentioned', 'the material was itchy', and the classic 'the colour was not what I expected from the photo's.
