R.I.P eBay (UK) ------>> 19th Feb 2025

The introduction of the eBay Buyer Protection fee of 75p plus 4% of the value of goods,  effective from 19th February 2025 has effectively killed off eBay (UK).

Buyers have walked away and Private Sellers are now forced to drastically reduce their prices to try to compete with 'Business Sellers', who are not subject to the eBay Buyer Protection fees.

It's a great shame, and unless eBay's management team in San Jose, California see the error of their ways, and quickly, there will be nothing left to salvage from the wreckage !!

WHOOPS!   There you go again talking common sense!   I have never understood why so many people say they hate e bay etc, have delisted all their items and then continue to waste their precious time ranting and raving.  I am going with the flow until SD then i will be gone (unless there is a radical change to it) but i will not be on here moaning about it - too busy looking for somewhere else maybe....

Still nobody from eBay, has come out with a definition of exactly what the eBay Buyer Protection Fee is, and what exactly Buyers are paying for !!

Access to eBay Customer Service, and Consumer Rights protection already enshrined in law, by the UK Distance Selling regulations.

eBay are taking everybody mugs !!

Consumer laws only apply to sales from business sellers.

True.  But the MBG gave buyers from private sellers additional rights.  So tell us what worthwhile benefit a buyer now gets over and above the MBG?

eBay BUYERS using a credit card to pay for goods already had good consumer protection, it's called the 'chargeback'

Neither the eBay Buyer Protection Fee or the eBay Moneyback Guarantee scheme strengthens this, so its time to call eBay out on this one.

The eBay Buyer Protection Fee is nothing more than an eBay tax on BUYERS !!!

I never said that buyers get any worthwhile benefit from it. As far as i see they dont. I, like most people do not like the new fees and would much rather have kept the sellers fees.

Come to eBay where Offers are confusing and you typically end up paying more than the offer you receive as we are charging a Protection Fee that we basically used to give for free and technically still do as it's still included separately on all our listings.

And you can use our marvellous app as long as your phone is new enough.

I saw a Vinted TV advert aimed at buyers the other day, they were up front about there being a BPF both in the dialogue and on the screen, but didn't say how much it was (I don't think).

I’ve not delisted my items. I’m on holiday after the past year I’ve had to cope with mums death and when i eventually got over that.  My dog was  pts 2 weeks ago and he loved being round mum. 
and of course eBay taking way too much money from me i owe them £42.00.  I can’t afford eBay at all now.

eBay censoring free speech is their only solution to the widespread dissent and unhappiness amongst users. following the introduction of this wretched Buyers Protection Fee.

Buyers are voting with their feet and leaving the platform.  With so few users still using the platform, eBay's profits will dwindle and it's nrxy quarterly earnings will inevitably reflect this.

So sorry to hear about your mother and also your dog 😞   I know its very hard as we have had a recent death in our family.

Owe Ebay money?    I am not sure how that situation has happened.

Job Centre saying Ebay is no longer viable?     I do hope that if you are on benefits you are declaring any Ebay income  because that in itself can be a minefield.    Even if income does not affect any benefits one still has to declare it.

my comment was a generalisation not aimed at any one specific person.  If you read these boards there are so many who say they have delisted their items, etc.   One thing i found when my last dog went was that e bay kept me busy and took my mind off the loss at least for a little while.  I am retired and my dogs have always been a blessing, i usually get the older ones who require lots of love and cost me a fortune in vet bills!  I have said this is the last but time will tell.

or are they just enforcing the  forum rules on what you can and cannot say?   Their site, their rules.  If you do not like it then you have options.  (and yes i have been hit by a couple of my posts in the past being removed but i did not make a fuss about it)

FACT

On an item costing £12 the eBay Buyer Protection Fee is £1.20

that's a 10% surcharge that Buyers are expected to pay !!
