Hello community. So why would eBay put peoples payments on hold . I would understand if there was something wrong but I couldn't do anymore than I have done already. Now I can't ship any items and have 5 buyers who I had to message to tell them I can't ship anything so dispatch is now late , 1 buyer wanted a refund . It's ironic how eBay do this and end up ruining peoples experience and also making me look bad as buyers want their items . And shocking communication , takes up to 5 working days but I'm sill waiting 5 days and 6th day tomorrow. No contact from them or any request for any credentials . Shocking!

happy though 😉 eBay not happy . Thankfully they were low value items but
who knows when I will get the funds . Could be 180 days . I wouldn’t advise
selling anything on eBay unless you have more money than sense . All the
best.
And if you have more money than sense, then you probably don't need to sell your items on eBay anyways! Selling on eBay is for those who (a) want to pass on ther items and (b) need the funds for them - what's the point in posting an item out before you've received the funds, that's counter productive!

Which is certainly what I'd be doing in that situation. I've read far too many eBay community threads where eBay have flat out refused to release funds, and that the only way of getting your money back from eBay is to initiate court action. That is a risk that cannot be tolerated, and must be mitigated at all costs. Hence, some sellers have now decided to only send out items once the funding has cleared.
For most sellers, this is 1-2 days, but for new sellers can be more...

Because that's in the terms and conditions you agreed to. Your advice goes against published policy which is to post when eBay tells you the buyer has paid, not when you have received the payment.
Your situation of getting paid (in a couple of days) and then sending, is not as serious a breach as it would be for members with payment holds who may lose their accounts due to your advice.

they have the terms on their site but in reality they do not reflect what
actually happens. I can see it’s definitely not uncommon for them to act
like this when the member is completely genuine and they offer no reason or
resolution, without asking for any information or documentation .
I disagree, I consider that they use the payment hold policy for new and infrequent sellers, just as it is written, as confirmed by your experience.

Tbh I now wish they put my fund on hold on my fist sale or something, rather than leaving it until 4 months down the line.. . Last night was a complete pain in the butt. I had to refund the buyer and only way I could do it without funds leaving my bank account was by selecting buyer requested. I took the time to contact the buyer to explain, did he reply? No of course not.
Oh am I also lost £6.99 on my postage label thanks eBay..
Obviously cancelling this way leaving me open to a report and bad fb now... So basically eBay have buggered up my good selling record. Nobody is gonna send on wim in the hope that maybe the postie will do his job end maybe someone will leave feedback.. if they do I'm sorry but they are niave. EBay are gonna do whatever they can to carry on holding funds aren't they?
I don't blame you op for doing what you did but you definitely should have cancelled orders should you not have. I'm gonna check out vinted for selling.

This is exactly my point. I'm not a business I'm just a dude with no money looking to raise funds. EBay seems to think we are all multi national conglomerates with a huge disposable abundance of wealth., Wasn't the whole purpose of this site to allow people to sell items to raise funds? No?

It is shocking I also contacted customer service who said " I can see you are a good seller with a fantastic sales history " ... So no reason for them to put my funds on hold.
I asked how I will get money, " you will get money when we can see the item is delivered "
What if postman forgets to mark it as delivered ? " We'll ask the buyer ":.. lol
So basically like you OP my account that was in good standing may well now not be so good. Because I'm not willing to take a dumb risk.
Peace I'm out of here before I get banned!

That's the first line of their script, everyone gets told that if they've sold something!

Surely they look at sales history? But yeah I can imagine everything is scripted. They are absolutely useless.. If they would have unlocked my funds while on chat I'd have carried on selling on eBay. But computer says no..

If you've sold one item then you have sales history.
They cannot unlock your funds though, it's not a matter of computer saying 'no', as has been explained numerous times on this thread this is how eBay works.
Payments for new or infrequent sellers are held for 21 days or tracking updates to show as delivered or your buyer leaves feedback.
This is to prevent sellers from listing items that they don't have and running off with the money.
You mentioned that you're going to check out Vinted for selling - do you think that they pass the buyers payment on to you as soon as they pay? They don't. It's important to check out how a selling platform works before signing up as a seller and listing your items, then there are no nasty surprises.

Ok thanks, I'm not a new seller though, I have built up a nice sales history already.. If it's policy they should have put funds on hold in my first sale not after 4 months of good sales history?
So your suggesting Its my fault for not reading eBay's terms? .. Well I did understand that they sometimes do this bs, but had not as of yet had it happen. Oh well. Who cares. Later.

eBay may put funds on hold anytime they so choose:
04-03-2024 12:45 PM
04-03-2024 1:05 PM
If it went past 21 days then we can't tell you why your payments were being held longer, eBay have an algorithm but we aren't privvy to it.
11-06-2024 4:26 PM
So they should do this on the first 20 items not waiting until they are on the 40 50 item with a lot of money on the system. they're scammers and they only have rules when they feel like it . Soon as I got the ombudsman involved as a high priority they paid out, because they're scammers .
